Let me guess, we'll use this as grounds to attack them after Iran.

Wow, that Farewell, American soldiers! would be depressing to find...

Luckily they lighten the mood with their wacky neurosis pamphlet right after!

boojl: Luckily they lighten the mood with their wacky neurosis pamphlet right after!

That neurosis pamphlet is funny. Apparently, it was common to warmly protest that you weren't a lunatic while eating poop.

Funny that they didn't show any Korean references. I guess since the Japanese invaded them back in 1910 or so, they thought nobody'd notice.

That would be because Korea had been officially annexed. Koreans were Japanese...in a manner of speaking.

Looking at this stuff evokes several emotions. It serves as a reminder why we fought. It set the stage for the nationist movements in that part of Asia following WW II--for while many people were not happy being dominated by the West, they were even less happy being dominated by the Japanese, and unwilling to go back to "business as usual" following the war.

As for the neurosis pamphlet, has anyone checked Howard Dean for these symptoms? It would explain a lot.

I hadn't seen one of these in decades...these are nice reminders to what would go wrong in time of a war.

The Imperial Japan had a "nice" propaganda going, though:

"Liberate the Asian Nations from Dictatorial Colonists! Under our flag, we instill peace and independence in our fellow Asian nations and rid of the these evil colonists."

That's how the Imperial regime sold a war to the citizens of Japan in 1940s. Something to remember, I suppose.

I was about to say the same thing. Probably the last thing you want to read whilst in the thick of it.

2005-08-15 01:44:07 PM
Yeah, the Japanese were so kind to the people they liberated.

2005-08-15 01:44:19 PM
Farewell, American Soldiers! employs better English than most Japanese marketing efforts do today...

Doesn't pop

Reminds me of the WWII propaganda short films you can download from Archive.org.

My Japan is a good (and creepy as all fark) example.

Speaking of that, does anybody know a good online archive of flyers dropped on enemy troops/population during wartime? I bet there's some interesting reading there.

Reminds me for the OIF propaganda on Fox

Apparently we didn't get our fill of Japan-bashing in the earlier thread.

Translates to: "How 'bout a nice cup of STFU"

Don't eat your own excrement or drink your own urine in the presence of others. If you do, you are sure to be branded as a lunatic, however warmly you may protest.
(from the bottom of page)

Methinks, modern Japanese porn could learn a lesson from 60 years ago...

2005-08-15 05:24:35 PM
It's a good thing that modern nations don't excuse their imperialist tendencies with trumped up charges of self-defense, thinly veiled racism, or the notion that they are doing it to free the invaded peoples.

2005-08-15 05:24:44 PM
Hmmm...even Kim Jong Il's propaganda is more persuasive than this. I guess Karl Rove wasn't available.

Awsome neurosis pamphlet. A fine work of hypnotic suggestion.

2005-08-15 05:26:14 PM
Slightly OT, but...

I went to an Airshow yesterday with a Japanese friend of mine - It was a little ackward when we went and looked inside a B25 bomber that had a number of Japanese flags painted below the window, and the interior of the bomb bay had dozens (hundreds) of signatures and short notes from the early 1940s...

She still found it interesting, but I suspect I'd also be a little uncomfortable if I saw Canadian flags painted below a piece of German hardware or something...

"Farewell, american soldiers" might make good song lyrics

2005-08-15 05:26:44 PM
I'm gonna try that in court one day "Your Honor, I warmly protest"

2005-08-15 05:27:22 PM
do not click the above link. it is an early sign of neurosis

2005-08-15 05:27:24 PM
The "Farewell, American Soldiers!" pamphlet sounds very similar to what anti-American trolls on Fark write.

2005-08-15 05:27:44 PM
It is dangerous to read the following posts!

2005-08-15 05:27:53 PM
I guess they deserved that nuking we gave them, then.

It always strikes me as odd that there's no sense what-so-ever of national guilt over that. I know it was war and the US wasn't the aggressor but holy fark, we nuked the shiat out of a crapload of innocent civilians that day. That's pretty evil shiat right there.

2005-08-15 05:28:16 PM
The Japanese flags appear to stop burning once removed from a flame source.

Too funny.
That site is not safe for dial-up though.

2005-08-15 05:28:33 PM
We could have had the Japanese ruling us damnit. Look at all that. It's wonderful! And now we're stuck with this American crap.

IF ONLY MORE PEOPLE HAD READ THAT BOOKLET!!!

2005-08-15 05:28:57 PM
hdhale: As for the neurosis pamphlet, has anyone checked Howard Dean for these symptoms?

Clearly we need more handlers to brush up on this handy neurosis detection pamphlet. Rove has been eating his own excrement for ages now.

"Pearl Harbor didn't work out so we got you with tape decks."

2005-08-15 05:30:45 PM
I'm sorry, but NOTHING could beat the things soldiers were told during the 1st Gulf war.

Paraphrasing:

"While you are here fighting us, your wives and girlfriends are at home having sex with strangers, and movie stars like Bart Simpson".

2005-08-15 05:30:52 PM
oh my god, that last picture (It is dangerous to read the following) was the funniest thing I have ever read. No way could that have been real, must've been a joke.

2005-08-15 05:31:09 PM
That booklet advises the reader not to eat his or her own poo poo.

/WTF?

Sad as hell. But, it sure beat the alternatives of firebombing all of Japan and invading everything, at the cost of even more American an Japenese lives. Also, it appears the second atomic bomb was also necessary. Recent documents have shown that had we only dropped one, the Japenese hardliners had a good chance of holding on and not surrendering.

The US gambled on 2 atomic bombs, and sadly, that was probably the best gamble that could have been made.

2005-08-15 05:32:28 PM
Is thinking I may be a lunatic a sign of neurosis? That pamphlet tells me nothing!

/nothing!

2005-08-15 05:32:30 PM
Communist propaganda, if you're into that sort of thing.

2005-08-15 05:32:32 PM
You can bash Truman if you want for the first bomb, but the second one is Japan's own fault.

2005-08-15 05:32:56 PM
Can anyone explain the lunacy/neurosis/poop & pee stuff at the end??

WTF?

2005-08-15 05:33:22 PM
I'm also looking at all of you sideways.
