If only the government would realize they'd get more money taxing prostitution than they do arresting prostitutes.

Snarfangel: If only the government would realize they'd get more money taxing prostitution than they do arresting prostitutes.

That would make sense, so of course that will never happen. I bet you think that marijuana should be legal. Damned hippies. Get a job!

So in other words, he's doing what we're all at Fark doing, only with prostitutes.

2005-08-02 01:27:41 PM
Secret vice officer?

2005-08-02 04:02:18 PM
What kind of qualifications would someone need for that job? 'Cause I could sure use the 80 grand and working with prostitutes on the street has got to be better than working with them in cubicleville.

What a incredible waste of taxpayer money. Even if he was doing his job, he might bust maybe 1% of the total sex trade workers in King county. At a total cost of 200-300K per year and make absolutely no impact on it.

Little hint: As long as people still want sex, there will be people willing to sell it.

I thought I was the only one who used the "Captain Save-A-Ho" expression. Can't believe it's actually in the article. Still good for making fun of nerds who leap to the defense of any female on a web forum though.

This guy should have the "hero" tag because of all the hookers and drug users he has kept OUT of jail thus saving the tax payer millions over the course of 10 years.

I say BRAVO!

it takes an interesting cop not to admit that the most desireable position for a criminal is, in fact, a cop.

So, he got paid $80,000 to be a pimp and do drugs. Wow, I'm in the wrong line of work.

Not really. Laws against things allow the government an excuse to get bigger - the DEA wouldn't have nearly as much business if reefer was legal. The IRS would have more power, but they don't generally take all your assets when they find out you're even in business, or have as much of an excuse to knock down your door with guns blazing. The government loves laws that allow it to do whatever the hell it wants to "lawbreakers".

Personally, I'm glad there aren't taxes on prostitution. It would make my hookers more expensive, and take out of their cut.

2005-08-02 04:45:36 PM
At least they did not put him on double secret probabtion!

2005-08-02 04:46:37 PM
Ring also made 18 checks on Taylor and her associates on an even more powerful and exclusive police tool known as WACIC and NCIC. Operated by the Washington State Patrol and federal law enforcement agencies, these databases are restricted to police personnel.

Using such tools to track his ex-wife, Ring found Taylor had made a credit purchase in Nevada -- at Victoria's Secret -- and noted it in his Outlook file in his computer.

and people are up in arms about the patriot act?

cmon now. time for everyone to see where the ground actually is.

Yeah, first time I heard it was on some HBO thing a few years back, maybe "Hookers on the Point" or something.

One of the girls said that's how they made fun of the guys who were always trying to be their knights in shining armor and rescue them from "the life."

Don't generalize so much. There are some women who do such things by choice. There's no reason why it should be illegal. Well, no logical reason anyway. I'm not saying there's no exploitation, but rather that your claim is too broad and doesn't represent the full spectrum of the profession over the last several thousand years of human history. Maybe if it was legal, exploitation would be minimized or eliminated.

Look all throughout human history and ask yourself if it really makes sense to outlaw prostitution.

// happily married and have never bedded a prostitute

Prostitution is the exploitation of women. It can never be "good".

Value judgements like this do nothing to make the world a better place. I would argue a prostitute is no different that some women who hangs out in clubs and takes random men home to fark. Here in Tallahassee, they are called Sorrostitutes. Being a college town, we got pleanty of them. In my mind, they are different than a call girl hanging out on the street.

People do what they do for their own reasons and odds are those reasons are not your own. You aren't protecting women by making them criminals, you're just making them criminals. There are alternatives.

Er...no. There are some women who have been forced into this choice by the lack of job opportunities availible under the patriarchy.

Shadowspawn, there's a reason why my Sicilian great uncles (legitimate businessmen, each and every one) used to frequently make comments like "that guy's either a cop, or a crook." They're both cut from the same cloth.

Why did you say no to chaoscube's comment? s/he qualified her/his statement with 'some', just like you did. That says to me that both are possible: some do it for fun and profit, some are forced into prostitution by people (men AND women) with no scruples.

I've met all kinds of women and some just like to fsck and don't mind getting paid for it. Hell, when the economy took a down turn a couple woman-folk I knew held a few 'private parties', with cover charge, to pay the rent.

Are you saying they were forced to give ass for cash?
