I almost went to this. My mom works for a company that moniters explosions and I'm right across in St. Louis, so I somehow ended up with a brochure for this and seriously considered it. Then I considered how much I love sleeping in.

I'm guessing Dr. Worsey is involved in this. He's quite the explosives geek. How many other profs do you know who put up a picture on their web page of themselves next to the Unabomber and ask if there is a resemblance?

2005-08-01 01:41:03 PM
Jus' don't let any of them A-rabs go to camp.

/Anyone remember the skit SCTV had.....Celebrity Blow-Up or something like that?

She says getting paid to blow up stuff would be great.

Nobody ever pays ME when I blow up stuff. Maybe I should ask for their permission first...

I can imagine the rigourous screening for Explosives Camp.

"Hey John, do you think Mahmed Al-Khan sounds muslim?"

"Yeah Dave."

John crosses Mahmed off the list.

Speaking of explosions....has anybody watched that new show on the Sci-Fi channel called Master Blasters? I haven't seen it but the commercials looked pretty good. One scene showed them blasting a house into the sky with a mannequin of Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz" sitting on the front porch. This week they try to blast a car 1000 yards thru some football goalposts. Just a heads up for explosion junkies.

Every time I was at camp, there was a fight. If fighting takes place in the asplosives camp, do the campers restrain from fragging each other or the counselors every time, consistently?

2005-08-01 01:57:59 PM
i go to explosives camp all the time. its called GLAMIS!

where dreams come true. ::sigh::

here's a short from last year at our camp. what you need to reproduce:
1x 12oz mickeys bigmouth bottle, emptied into your belly (cap reserved).
1x small nail
12oz high octane gas
1x good hot fire
~12-13x drunk dudes
1x video camera

Using the small nail, poke a small hole into the cap from the mickeys bottle.

place 12oz of gas into bottle

secure cap to bottle

stand bottle, cap up, in the center of the fire (do this carefully and quickly).

stand back.

the gas will boil (liquid gas does not burn), and the "steam" (vapor gas) will quickly leave the bottle through the hole in the cap. the gas will ignyte (tm).

the tin cap will eventually get hot and melt away, and all gas will violently leave the bottle.

bottle will not break (if done properly).

we did this over and over again.

mickeys is just abosolutly wonderful.

sorry about the dumb "nag" in the video... i did this quickly just now. i'll have a clean version later today. enjoy!!!

(note, i filmed this... the blast knocked me back)

Yes. It is destined to be a minor hit. Way too much lead-in and too little boom.

Camp schmamp..

when I was their half their age, you could still walk down to the feed store and buy dynamite. Fireworks? They sold painter's flake and nitrocel. Want smoke bombs? Amazing what you can do with some sugar and soda niter.

Freaking twenty-something pansies with your electric detonators, explosive "trains" and controlled boom.. They ought to be out there with a block of good ol' TNT playing the "Am I gonna lose my fingers?" game.

Where were these camps when I was a kid? My daughter went to camp last week to hear silly stories about how wimmenfolk can be injuneers and sciuntists and what-not, and to build a ray-dee-oh controlled flying air-o-plane. And now you're telling me about blow-up camp.

All I had was band camp. Which, mind you, was still pretty good. This one time... at band camp...

/still jealous of today's youths.

Excellent timing...last night I found a version of the Armed Forces Improvised Munitions manual. Good stuff, really. Everything from black powder to making a gun out of steel water pipe and a 2x4. I believe you can also purchase a copy on Amazon somewhere

/Hears knock on door...Aw shiat, the FBI's here.

Sounds really really cool, but nowadays...

*sighs*

The number of permits they must need to get...not to mention the amount of FBI scrutiny [ I'm sure they pull a full background check on everybody, these days... ] would make it more or less not worth it.

Ah, well. I can prolly still figure out how to ferment my own alcohol in the basement.
