The DESIGNERS and FRAMERS of our Constitution and Bill of Rights were considered to be the most foul of liberals by the british and most of their turncoat followers.

Watch the use of the word liberal as what reamins of your freedoms are BASED on their thinking. The power of guns & money lost that battle and FREEDOM WON.

You may not know this, but a large fraction of npr's listeners are conservative, and many like me have made donations to PBS. I take issue with a lot of the broadcasts, but I enjoy listening to the BBC and hearing a thorough exposition of some issues. Does that make me a troll, because I don't fit your stereotype???

/Don't be a marching moron, form your own opinion about every issue.

hey now, 50.897% of the 18.675% of eligible voters that actually voted voted for this schmuck. just goes to show you: you get the government you deserve.

sad but true: only 48.897% of those 18.675% voted for "anybody but bush"

A United States Senator literally cried on the floor of the Senate in fear of what the world would be like for his grandchildren if John Bolton were appointed to this post.

What the hell is wrong with Bush? It's like he's just saying "I don't care if it's good for the country - all I care about is EFF YOU."

Reagan didn't try to dismantle our intelligence serviecs and send a hundred fifty thousand of our soldiers into Iraq over a pack of lies.

true, but he did authorize illegal arms sales to the nation of iran, a country he had himself declared to be a "terrorist state.", in spite of a weapons embargo. (treason btw) And, of course he and a group of his cronies gave money to the contras, despite the fact congrss had passed a set of laws making it a crime to give aid to them.

Appoint someone who is corrupt and lies to the Senate, and withholds information???????

This guy was spying on domestic critics, using NSA intercepts to do it. He lied by omission on his sworn statement that he hadn't testified in any investigation in the past five years. He thinks Cuba wants to attack us with WMD. North Korea went nuclear on his watch.

Don't pretend that integrity is important, because if you support John Bolton, you don't really care about integrity. The guy's a liar and a perjurer, and abused his power to bully subordinates and opponents.

We need to make ourselves out to be loud, bumbling, boisterous boobs on the international diplomatic front. Bolton is just what the doctor ordered.

But I doubt ordinary Republicans were whining about how Clinton was a dictator.

No, but there was a call amongst some Senate Republicans to block all Clinton nominees in retaliation.

Do some digging on conservative forums that archive old posts and USENET to see the temper tantrums resulting from Hormel's nomination. All because he's a homosexual. Even though the Luxemborg ambassador to the US said that he looked forward to working with Mr. Hormel. Even though the Luxemborg government quite openly endorsed the man.

And look at those same people now cheering at Bush's recess appointment of Bolton. And also look at people who cheered Hormel's recess appointment whining about Bush doing the same thing.

The difference is that blocking a man's nomination over his sexual orientation is wrong.

Blocking a man because he's withholding documents, and lying on his application is legitimate.

I suspect you know this, but I'm making it clear for others with less well-calibrated moral compasses.

The executive outing of a WMD proliferation intelligence asset and release of confidential information is also treason and is unprecedented in US history. And it happened in the context of sending a message to intelligence agents and analysts that they must toe the official line, which supported the illegal invasion of a sovereign nation.

They're both pretty damned criminal, IMHO, but the invasion of Iraq will have more severe consequences than the financing of the Contras. Although, ironically, some of those Ollie North stinger missiles might be used against our troops in Iraq.

Charmaniac:

nice try, but the "air national guard" isn't really serving when the country is at war

Well then, by all means, go enlist in the Air National Guard. Were at war right now, so lets test out your logic. If you enlist in the Air National Guard, you won't be deployed to Iraq.

So, here is a step by step guide for SS Pinkerton to test out his theory that Air National Guardsmen do not get sent to combat during times of war:

1. Enlist in Air National Guard
2. Wait for deployment
3. Report back to Fark when commitment has expired

Oh wait, you live in Pennsylvania. Check out the Philadelphia Inquirer which says "Additional local call-ups include five Air National Guardsmen, 35 Army reservists, and 130 Marines with a helicopter squadron." [www.philly.com] On The Home Front

There I did your research for you. Now you don't even have to enlist in the Air National Guard!

I think he should have used the word "wasn't" instead of "isn't." During Vietnam, going into the Guard was a good way to dodge the war. Ask any Vietnam-era vet and they'll tell you the same. The Guard of yesteryear and the Guard of today are not comparable.

But you knew that and you spewed your deceptions anyway.

B82 writes: There was Republican oppostion [to Hormel]. But I doubt ordinary Republicans were whining about how Clinton was a dictator.

That depends on your definition of ordinary Republican.

Trent Lott's office said that "Senator Lott does agree with Senator Inhofe that this practice of naming controversial appointments during short recesses without much prior consultation is a practice that can't be sustained. It has to be stopped."

James Inhofe said that "President Clinton has shown contempt for Congress and the Constitution...He has treated the Senate confirmation process as little more than a nuisance which he can circumvent whenever he wants to impose his will on the country."

In retaliation Inhofe said that "I will place a 'hold' on every judicial nominee that reaches the Senate calendar for the remainder of the Clinton presidency."

Don Nickles said that "It's unfortunate, and, again, he's really defying the Constitution...There's a reason why you have advise and consent. There's a reason why you have confirmation."

Nickles also said that "If [President Clinton] really sticks his finger in the eye of the Senate as far as the confirmation process, he may not get another person confirmed...We don't have to confirm anybody next year"

Mitch McConnell said that "This [recess appointment] would be a declaration of war halfway through the 105th Congress...If [President Clinton] tries, it will cost him. It could be appointments. It could be legislative cooperation. The opportunities are wide open for any fertile mind to contemplate."

Bob Smith said that "Clinton's decision to nominate Mr. Hormel while we are in recess is an affront to the Senate and to the Constitution."

Why aren't Lott, Inhofe and McConnell leading the charge against this? Why aren't they criticizing Mr. Bush? Why aren't they threatening to derail all of his legislation? Why aren't the threatening to stop confirmation of all of Mr. Bush's appointments?

The Republican plan is simple and logical.

The US is the strongest nation on Earth, which means the one true God in heaven has chosen us to carry out his will.

Since we are invincible, and know the most about how to fight for good and never evil, why should we pay money to some outside group and have to listen to a bunch of other opinions (gasp!). Nobody else's opinion is as valid as America's, so why waste our time listening to anyone? But of course if someone else happens to fully agree with us, then we will respect and cherish their infinite wisdom temporarily.

We don't need the UN, they just hold us back. We should just spend our money on pro-US media machine and more weapons. Look how quickly and easily we won in Afghanistan and Iraq. We can surely take on the whole world at once if necessary.

Democrats just want to hold us back and make it harder for us to bring the freedom to every human on the planet. By freedom I mean the privilege of following US decrees or being shot on the spot.

After thinking this whole situation over, I really can't blame the Senate Democrats for overreacting to Bolton. They are in constant fear that their new MoveOn base will stop contributing money and go back to buying bongs. They HAVE to swing at every fence Bush puts up. They no longer can pick their battles. They have to fight EVERY battle, no matter how unimportant or doomed it is.
