I bet a million bucks that preacher doesn't have a little adopted crack baby, on account of he's a hypocrite.

2005-07-28 05:06:20 PM

If they were the organizers, why didn't they just use the magic word--"NO"--and that would have been that.

because then the Rev would have sued them. Knowing this they just decided to fold up shop and cancel it all.

...much to the delight of fundamentalist christians I imagine.

The pro-choice group should enter their own float.
The "unwanted kids raised by crack whores" float.

Put some gang bangers up there, maybe mug a few people watching the parade, or just do some drive by shooting and take out a few innocent bystanders...

2005-07-28 05:06:52 PM
Thank god Hitler outlawed abortion in 1933.

2005-07-28 05:07:27 PM
I luv abortion. The more liberals that kill off their own, the better.

You know, there are people who don't vote or otherwise consider themselves "liberal" and who are pro-choice.

But I suppose expecting you to think in terms of reality is well beyond the scope of Fark message boards . . .

Someone needs to exact a little retribution of Rev. Grove.

2005-07-28 05:07:53 PM
I always cringe when I see a headline from WGAL - it means central PA is up to no good.

2005-07-28 05:08:47 PM
I heard they covered over it and he'll be sitting on a steamer trunk instead.

2005-07-28 05:09:07 PM
Unwonted
Because they didn't want to be involved in the controversy. And really, I don't blame them for pulling out at all....

Question for you Farkers:
Grove's anti-abortion float, "Dr. Butcher's Chop Shop of Choice Cuts," features fetuses and mutilated body parts.
They can't be real, can they? That has to violate some law, right?

Ewww...

/very, very tiny bit on the side of pro-life
//moving over to pro-choice, gimme time

Then I'd think you'd enjoy Hell House

You mean the Christian scripted Halloween Haunted House that has been performed by Andy Richter and Bill Maher out here? I would never have known about it if it weren't for mid-western hipsters like you.

Obviously you haven't heard of it...

Educated_Comedian:

Does this sort of thing persuade anyone? I've yet to meet a single person who has been converted by a Chick tract, gone vegan thanks to PETA, or convinced to go hetero by Fred Phelps. Why do we confuse controvers and outrage with progress? Rational discussion will take an issue so much farther than these holier-than-thou scare tactics.

Unfortunately my sister became a vegetarian after she read a PETA pamphlet. I don't think they honestly convert anyone, but they can push people one way or the other and scare the hell out of kids.
Overall they do way more harm to their cause than good and you're right that rational discussion will go a lot further, but they do have some impact.

I think it's time we resurrected "dead baby" jokes.

I went with my wife's Uncle to a small Southern Baptist church on the outskirts of the Northside of Jacksonville (i.e. Redneck Flats) on a Halloween a few years ago that happened to fall on a Sunday. The Assistant Pastor was in charge that morning, and he had himself worked up into a lather over people celebrating Halloween on the Lord's Day.

He not only called out the parents of those kids who participated in the Satanic ritual by eating candy (yes, that's all it takes to wash away a lifetime of pious self-denial and shame... 1 night of candy), he got on a roll and said Root Beer was as evil as beer itself.

Then he got even further agitated and called out the Easter Bunny for calling attention away from Jesus on Easter. Finally, he through Santa under the bus and said people who give their kids Christmas Presents are teaching them to forsake God in favor of worldly goods.

"Don't get mad at the messenger here, folks, I'm just telling you what the book says!" I nearly choked on that one... Everyone in the congregation was taking this all in as if it was NORMAL and SANE. I kept resisting the urge to raise my hand and offer a counter-point because I was a guest in someone else's church. It was a struggle, but I kept quiet...

So, don't be surprised when you hear this type of crap from those who are smarter and holier than you. They know better, and they're doing this for your own good. Even though you're not technically worth the effort, you dirty Sinners...

/hedonist, according to some hippocritical In-Laws

2005-07-28 05:10:33 PM
you know what's funny? According to an October 23, 2003 article in the York Daily Record, The ACLU is on the side of Grove (not his abortion views, of course, but rather his right to be able to march in the parade).

2005-07-28 05:10:42 PM
What's the problem? Just add to the rules "this parade is for entertainment. No political crap." Just toss them out like Linda Rondstat.

2005-07-28 05:11:01 PM
I love the outrage of the far left when the right wing wackos play the "outrageous" card...the same way the lefties like to play it, except they refuse to play at all when somebody stands up to them.

wah, wah, wah.

Lisa Benson wrote in an e-mail to members Wednesday that the potential liabilities and legal ramifications of sponsoring the parade are just too great

As annoying as the Rev. is, "legal ramifications"? WTF? Do the Jaycees think that parents would sue the parade sponsers for mental damages from the float?

If so, we have blind obsessiveness vs. the overly litigious society. Stupidity vs. stupidity. This calls for a Google Fight!

I luv abortion. The more liberals that kill off their own, the better.

Well, we all know the world has one less Bush in it because of abortion...

2005-07-28 05:11:35 PM
Am I the only one who has a bad feeling that getting the parade shut down was exactly what the Good Reverend wanted?

2005-07-28 05:12:29 PM
It's time for ABORTION JOKES!
"What's worse than 10 dead babies in a trashcan?"
"One dead baby in 10 trashcans!"

And the worst one:
"WHy can't you fool an aborted fetus?"

"Because he wasn't born yesterday!"

I lived across the street from Planned Parenthood in St. Louis. I couldn't open my shades without seeing a picture of a giant dead fetus, every morning, paraded around by a gathering of protestors. They even came out on Saturdays, which really irked me. I'd get up, tired from the night before, and jonesing for a McGriddle, only to be greeted by giant dead fetus and his worshipers. Always ruined my appetite.

2005-07-28 05:13:36 PM
Hey - why not? My town's 4th of July parade this year included zombies (for some reason...)

How do you know when a baby is a dead baby?
The dog plays with it more.

i got this mental image of ressurected dead baby jesus.

Like, God knocks up some single virgin again. She has no father to support it, and no guy wants to marry this ugly pregnant chick, so she goes and gets an abortion....but God's plan requires this child to live and be the Second Coming, so the dead fetus is reanimated.....

i'd love to see the float of all the crack addict babies and dead babys in the dumpster.

this will happen more without full access to abortion.

its like when you see little kids at these anti-abortion protests. some places its illegal to push your views on yours or other kids this way. but of course the police are not willing to bust these bad parents. when the kids get old enough to decide for themselves whether or not they condone one way or the other is when they can protest their parents crazy cause.

2005-07-28 05:15:45 PM
and don't forget the dead mothers with the coat hanger abortion.

What's the difference between a dead baby and a trampoline?
When you jump on a trampoline, you take your boots off.

Do you seriously doubt that an opportunistic type wouldn't sue immediately after the parade for mental anguish over having seen the abortion images? This is America, people are just waiting for a chance to sue and strike it rich.

I just read Freakonomics and the author credits Roe v. Wade with the marked decrease in the crime rate of the late nineties/early thousand's.
Very interesting theory. Makes a compelling argument.

/No offense to Anti-Abortion folk, but will only join their cause when orphanages and foster homes are a relic of the past.

when I was a freshman in H.S. I was forced(Catholic HS) to watch a movie about abortions, where they showed third tri abortions, and then write a paper about it. I wrote down that while I personally don't believe in abortion, watching that movie was gross and unnecessary. So he gave me an F.

/don't know where I was going with that

2005-07-28 05:19:16 PM
if they can have a float, then those fags for the boston thanksgiviing parade can have one too.

/take that commie liberals!

2005-07-28 05:19:39 PM
Actually, another good float would be the one where abortion is made illegal.

It would be a small float.

There would be a minority woman, dead from a botched illegal abortion, and there would be a white woman in a doctor's office getting her abortion done safely although expensively...

While I was walking across my college campus one day this spring a little girl and her mother were handing out pamphlets to people walking by. The little girl offered me one so I smiled and said "thank you!" as I took it. A few steps away I looked at what it said. There was a picture of an aborted fetus on it and a quote that said Planned Parenthood acknowledges that abortion is the termination of a fetus's life.

I don't know why, but I found it a bit odd that a five or six year old girl was handing these out.

Indoctrination of a mino child into a religion (i.e. telling him/her that your religion is TRUE) should be a felony.

A-religious till age of Majority

In case it hasn't been said yet:

Maybe the Rev. Jim Grove should step up to the plate and have his church sponsor the parade since he feels it is so darned important to get his message out.

2005-07-28 05:21:04 PM
My God, it's full of assholes!

2005-07-28 05:21:57 PM
This isn't about liberal vs. conservative or spy vs. spy. Its about kids having a good time. If you want to throw your adult topics in the public arena -- do it at the city council meeting. I'm sure the good Reverend isn't a big fan of Halloween and he gets to kill two birds with one stone. Good work Prick . . .

2005-07-28 05:22:22 PM
A little girl, who was walking with her shopping mother, and couldn't have been older than three or four, upon seeing this, yelled "You are TACKY!"

I was in a 15k back in High School and a bunch of "We Know Better Than You" types were holding up posters of aborted fetuses and bloody messes along the route. They were surging against the ropes that hold them back and yelling at the runners for no good reason. It's not like we were running to support Pro Choice or anything, it was a freaking River Run.

So I slowed to a walk and said "You're going about this all wrong!" and "You're making fools of yourself!" and "You're alienating the normal people who agree with you!" All this did was cause them to focus their yelling at me and ratchet up the volume a few notches. They don't want to hear the truth... They want to shock you and make you sick to your stomach with gross pictures.

The worst part was the brain-washed children. From age 3 on up, they had them holding signs ("I'm Not a Choice" or some such emotionally-driven tripe) and yelling right there with adults who SHOULD know better...

Did someone say Bill Hicks?

"If you're so pro-life, and you're so pro-child, then adopt one that's already here, and is very unwanted, and very alone, and needs someone to take care of it and get it out of a horrible situation. And people say 'Well, why don't you do that?' and I say 'Cause I hate f*cking kids and couldn't care less'.

Q: What's blue and sits in the corner?

A: A dead baby with plastic bag on its head.

Q: What's green and sits in the corner?

A: Same baby, three weeks later.

Nobody having fun at a parade wants to be reminded about how truly horrible and evil abortion is.

It'd be like making a float to praise Nazi death camps, hanging black people, or in homage of serial killers.

Nobody wants to see it!

2005-07-28 05:25:17 PM
No dumbass, because there are no unwanted children any more.
