Why would a gas station that has yet to open be displaying prices at all?

I heard Midland was once fenced in, and like, WAY back in the '80s the government threw all the mentally handicapped (retards) and down's syndrome kids in there. Now everyone works at Dow and the rest is history...

I remember whenever gas stations were under construction or out of gas around here, they'd set their signs to 88.8/l

Lately, I'd probably stop to see if I could get some at that price if I came across it.

When oil collapses, those of us who telecommute for work will be laughing at you all, until the power gets shut off. Then, it's gonna kinda suck, but until then, HAH!

There is a company in the area that makes gas station signs. They have a few signs out front with gas prices in the $5 or $6 range. I always do a double take when I drive past!

The article says something about Saginaw, MI. I use to go to school there (a campus for the college I attend). *shakes head* I think most people there are ... how to say this nice .. not too smart.

Funny, there were rumors floating around of a couple stations in mid-michigan hovering at $3.10. michigangasprices.com had a station at I-75 and Bristol road at 3.10, but then that listing disappeared. I got a call from my father this afternoon saying that prices were spiking up there.

The "official" reason was that hurricane emily was keeping oil tankers from docking in Texas, cutting the supply of oil to the refineries.

Eh, I topped off at 2.21. and promptly parked my truck for the rest of this week. Thank God for the 21 speed mountain bike. I won't fill up again until mid august.

2005-07-19 09:59:06 PM
people everywhere are idiots... first of all, going crazy over seeing ONE sign is stupid, second, you're going nuts over 20 bucks, tops. gas is already mid 2 dollar range, so a 50-100 cent hike isn't that much. Creating a panic and insane demand only hikes that price up more. If nobody bought high priced gas, the gas stations would be forced to lower the price.

i work/live in the tri-city area.

twas a hilarious day.

it wouldn't of been half as bad if the radio stations weren't broadcasting the false reports of prices going up all over the area.

gas stations were backed out into the road. people were leaving work to go fill up.

People so funny! I laugh!!

Wasn't just Midland. People in the surrouding cites like Saginaw and Bay City were waiting over an hr to get gas. All of us "local" folks (and I mean that in the spanish meaning too) have big SUVs and trucks so we take gas prices very seriously here. Hee Hee $45 dollars to fill the tank at 16 MPG. Gotta love it.

Remember the gas scare on 9/11? At the time I was driving a piece-of-crap beater with no working gas gauge. The night before, I'd realized I was low, but of course I had no idea EXACTLY how low.

"Meh, I'll get some gas on my way tomorrow afternoon," I thought.

Well, of course that was when every wide-eyed panicky cretin within 50 miles of a gas station decided they needed to fill up RIGHT NOW. I ended up getting stuck at the back end of a line of 30+ cars, because it was the shortest one I could find, and ran out completely and stalled about halfway through...ended up having to push my car out of traffic and come back the next day with a friend. Stupid farkers.

I have seen a station in Portola Valley ( in bay area) that is charging $2.99. I guess $3 by the weekend.

Eh, sounds like you're the stupid farker for not getting gas when you thought you were low. I don't even know where the low gas symbol is on my car, I shiat thee not, I don't let it get that low.

schief2:

Yeah, for some reason I like to see my low fuel light go on before I get any inspiration to fill up. One day I'll get caught in a traffic jam on 75 on the way home from work and maybe have a second thought about my strategy.

Like I said, I was driving a beater with a broken gas gauge, so all I knew was roughly that I need to fill up. It didn't help that the thing would get wildly varying gas mileage from tank to tank either...it was always an adventure with that damn car.

Glad I drive a hybrid car. I just recently broke $20 to fill the tank (at 2.23/gallon) to drive about 450-500 miles.

/And people thought I was dumb when I bought it when gas prices were abuout $1.40/gallon.

But how do you run out of gas just sitting in line? Does your gas tank leak? Or did you feel obligated to idle the whole time?

gilean42 -

yeah, but your from flint, which is just a shiattier, slightly bigger version of Saginaw.

and Midland isn't very similar to Saginaw. Midland has no inner-city, therefore none of the problems that the Saginaw has.
