Their anti-Christian activities were only one of many strikes against them.

What, like defending the right of sidewalk preachers in Vegas to preach?

2005-07-18 04:45:52 PM
The biggest thing I could say I hate the ACLU for is when they defended MANBLA. That was absolutely wrong!

Once more, they were not defending the stance that NAMBLA entails. They were defending the right of the organization to have a website advocating the change of current laws. Such changes aren't going to happen, and are frankly detestible. But claiming that they should not be allowed to voice their opinion is akin to thoughtcrime.

Protesting is one thing. But this shiat about blocking busineses, blocking traffic, etc is a bunch of BS. Try and block me in traffic, and i'm going to run your ass over.
Block my enterance to work (either directly, or as a result of other protests you are doing in the area), and i'm going to kick your ass.

Your right to protest doesn't override my right to have a job and cruise around in my 'stang.

/didnt support war in Iraq
//was still pissed the hippies were blocking traffic while I was in San Francsico.

Then you should read what EatHam and I were saying to one another in this very thread. Oddly, he went silent after getting called on citeless arguments just like yours.

/I was sure he'd come back at me with some devastating logic, but I guess his internets broke before he could.

The irony of this is that if it was not for the ACLU, Rush Limbaugh would probably be in jail.

The Conservatives are all for the "Freedom of Speech", as long as it is something that they themselves agree with. If it is not, then they want to stamp it out with full force.

Hypocrites!

And this, kids, is an example of uncivil disobedience. Notice the difference between this and Greenpeace.

I wonder why our government spends so much time watching "leftist" groups when it's historically the right-wing extremists who are blowing up abortion clinics and federal buildings and building stockpiles of weapons. Left-wing extremists free animals and burn down research clinics and rarely hurt anyone in the process. Even today, we have front page news about yet another right-wing extremist and yet, our government wastes its damn time watching tree huggers and civil rights activists?

Honestly, I'm not trying to start up a left vs. right mud slinging match, but what's the deal? It seems that there is disproportionate interest in watching a group that is relatively harmless whereas a group that is proven deadly doesn't seem to get nearly as much attention. I don't care what your political leanings are, that doesn't add up.

Here is some tinder for the pyre.

If the ACLU isn't doing anything wrong they don't have any reason for the FBI to know everything they do.

Of course I didn't RTFA and now I will STFU.

My father's generation called it Cointel-Pro. They suveiled "radical groups" too. Like the Civil Rights movement, and the Yippies.

I'm sorry, but I still laugh at the Ha-Ha guy. Now I'm just scrolling the threads looking for him and whenever someone posts something like "Yep You found me" or "bet you didn't expect to find me here" I still laugh.

I know it's sad.

Fark has entered a new dispensation.

2005-07-18 04:50:16 PM
I read that ACLU was given money support etc, by terrorist fronts protraying themselves to be Islamics for peaceful assembly and what not.

If this is the case, why should the FBI not be involved?

So, what is greenpeace doing to harness it???

Start here. It's amazing the things you can learn about what Greenpeace is all about by taking a look at the websites where they blab about it for all to hear. It's not like this stuff is hard to find, folks.

This isn't news cause the feds have been doing this since the 60s and the ACLU has been on top of it ever since it started

"I had no idea that after I left in 1986 they would evolve into a band of scientific illiterates. Clearly, my former Greenpeace colleagues are either not reading the morning paper or simply don't care about the truth."
Patrick Moore, Greenpeace co-founder, writing in Canadas National Post (October, 2001)

"There are many organizations out there that value credibility, but I want Greenpeace first and foremost to be a credible threat."
Greenpeace USA Executive Director John Passacantando, in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, February 17, 2003

the ACLU, just like Fark and Drew himself, can't stand America except to line their own pockets by dedicating their existence to undermining it.

Ok, I live in Newfoundland, and know folks involved in the seal hunt. The seal hunt which was actually less crual BEFORE greenpeace got involved.

I disagree with Greenpeace's "kill and lot god sort them out" kind of politics. I can speak only from experience, but as far as I know greenpeace is doing NOTHING for the cod being overfished by oversea trawlers. The cod is being hunted to dismal levels while the seal population goes out of control (remember, man has been hunting the seals for thousands of years).

While I support animal rights and believe that we as humans should treat animals better than we do, but I get very pissed off with the fact a chicken is worth more than me.

Google for Cointel Pro. Same shiat, different decade. Last time it happened they were secret. When FOIA requests revealed it was happening, the practice ceased, legislation was passed to stop it, etcoontil 9/11 and the Patriot Act happened.

When they took away my 10th Amendment rights, I didn't say anything; I am not involved in State government;

When they tookl away my Ninth Amendment rights, I didn't say anything; it would take a legal genius to understand the impoprtance of that obscure little clause, so that sure leaves me out;

When they took away my Eighth Amendment rights, I didn't say anything; I don't have any use for medicinal marijuana;

When they took away my Seventh Amendment rights and my Sixth Amendment rights, I didn't say anything; people as poor as I am never get sued anyway;

When they took away my Fifth Amendment rights, I didn't say anything; I do not deal drugs within 1000 feet of a school;

When they took away my Fourth Amendment rights, I didn't say anything; I don't own any property worth confiscating;

I don't know how they ever missed my Thirde Amendment rights,but please don't tell anybody! I might come home and find a bunch of soldiers camped in my house and my family thrown out in the street;

When they took away my Second Amendment rights, I didn't say anything; I don't have any use for an assault rifle;

When they took away my First Amemdment rights, I didn't say anything; I do not transmit kiddie porn over the Internet;

By the time they took away all of the rest of my rights, there was nobody left to say anything.

...And thus commit assault for your own convenience. Also interesting.

You know, in either of those situations you have several much more reasonable responses you could make.

If traffic is getting blocked, you could always - and I know this is a tough concept, what with your vigilante justice and all - call the police and have the asshat blocking traffic removed and arrested. (Incidentally, while protesters en masse sometimes block traffic, if it's just one guy he's probably a loony or drunk. Does he really deserve to get murdered?) Are you really in such a hurry that you can't wait a few minutes for that? Heck, if you need to get somewhere in an emergency, you could probably even get a ride in the police car.

As for the guy who's blocking where you work, you've basically got two more options (in addition to assaulting him, of course). If you work in an industry that attracts mass protests, perhaps you could reassess why you work there? Child Poisoners & Puppy Stranglers Inc. might not be your best choice for a long-term career. Your other alternative would be to call the police again. I know, you still prefer vigilante street justice, but give it a shot. I promise you won't be disappointed.

And we all know that the ACLU is always on the side of freedom. NAMBLA can attest to that.
