that may well be true, jkaoclobb.

the 2nd amendment is probably the safest one at the moment.

Conservatives don't like the ACLU because it makes everybody forget about Conservatives' long and proud history of producing civil rights activists such as:

The ACLU is not the friend of the true American, just liberals , terrorists, and atheists!

When will I learn that only conservative theists are American?

Damn dude! You just made me spit coffee all over my monitor!
2005-07-18 05:05:35 PM
So, when will the FBI start monitoring white supremacist groups and Christofascists, and stop worrying about dirty hippies? Last I knew, Eric Rudolph was a bomber guilty of murder. Who's the last ACLU lawyer arrested, or even accused, of a crime (other than calling out Big Brother on his bullshiat)?

Where's the "asinine" tag?
2005-07-18 05:06:43 PM
The lady's got a little mole over her lip which, from what I've read on Fark many times before, is enough of an imperfection for some jackass to say he wouldn't hit it. If I weren't married/had no morals, and this opportunity showed up at my door I would definitely hit it. Twice. Then drink some water, maybe take a quick nap to regain some energy, and then hit it again.

"2005-07-18 04:57:40 PM Hafrikan

It's a (rather subtle) parody site.

if the fbi isn't using intimidation to gather it's info than who cares? the lawsuits should be saved until the files are opened. the FIA has been a good check against politically motivated use of the fbi and other govt agencies, just open the files and make sure everything's cool.

Needs an obvious tag.
Bush and his crew have been harrassing, supressing and destroying anyone who stands in his way or dissents too much
for years.
Land of the free my arse.
They need to repeal the patriot act, its just more fearmongering bs. Its much easier to manipulate the fearful.
BTW: There's a terrorist under your bed. BOOO!
2005-07-18 05:12:55 PM

I wonder if the ACLU supporters would give a hero tag to Rumsfeld for being a sponsor of the FOI Act when he was in Congress?

Sure, if you give him credit for helping weaken that act while in the White House.

This is why terrorists can so easily blindside us. Because we're wasting our time on crap like this. Oooh, that dangerous ACLU! Let us gather documents that we might protect ourselves from their freedom-loving ways!

Dude, Osama loves what Bush has done, and could care less about the ACLU. In fact, it probably gives him a woody to think about how we're scurrying around in terror and paranoia, spying on our own citizens.

"Results 1 - 10 of about 207,000 for greenpeace violence. (0.53 seconds)"

/just saying

Heh. Nearly every link involves Greenpeace's efforts to end violence, or violence threatened by opponents of Greenpeace. The only one claiming violence on Greenpeace's part looked like a strange religious site.

Uhm, I don't think so. This quote comes from the very first site on the list: "Greenpeace and closely allied groups have used fabrications, actual violence, and even destruction of the ecosystem as tools in many of their campaigns. All of which have reaped such groups huge financial benefits, while allowing them to advance a political agenda many of their sympathizers would never knowingly support."

Second on the list: "In the summer of 1994 Greenpeace showed that they were willing to destroy the whalers equipment in order to stop them."

Here's a quote from the third on the list:
"Activists managed to block a pipe discharging waste into a nearby canal (which delayed work for 12 days while it was being unblocked), and although at first the MOD denied that it had even happened, they are now trying to prosecute six activists for criminal damage"

Here's another in the top ten: "Greenpeace preaches to be non-violent. But what we see are the many cases of violently attacking chlorine- and PVC-factories and blocking transports and doing actual damage."

And here is a quote from number 10 on the first page: "Greenpeace anti-GM food activists may well have done the organisation's reputation irreparable damage. In place of the pious deference shown by the British Press to the movement's every word on biotechnology, a consensus is now growing that the mindless vandalism of recent weeks has gone too far.

It is not, of course, just the lunatic fringe of Greenpeace that has been hauled before the magistrates to answer charges of criminal damage. The organisation's executive director, Peter Melchett also felt entitled to take the law into his own hands by helping to destroy GM maize on a farm in Norfolk, and was forced to delay a foreign holiday as a result until bail was agreed."

You were saying?
2005-07-18 05:14:43 PM

Yeah. I've never understood why so many people hold the second amendment dear but have such little respect for the first.

I believe that the ACLU deserves an all time Hero tag. I think that those people are the Atticus Finch of society. Greenpeace- I don't really care.
2005-07-18 05:16:14 PM
The ACLU files plenty of lawsuits. And they can often get plenty of media attention for doing so.

However, filing a lawsuit does NOT mean they are right. The ACLU files plenty of lawsuits that judges disagree with. Sometimes, they file ridiculous lawsuits simply to bring attention to their cause, rather than hoping the courts will side in their favor.

Let me know when the courts decide. Until then, I could care less.
2005-07-18 05:16:17 PM

Yeah. I've never understood why so many people hold the second amendment dear but have such little respect for the first.

You don't need the first if you have the second. Armed men can say whatever they want.
2005-07-18 05:16:25 PM
To the ACLU bashers, we all know how much the ACLU hates Christians. And of course, they only defend liberals.

Jesus told us to turn the other cheek- the ACLU are the champions of that principle.
2005-07-18 05:16:56 PM
Yes... its the ACLU's fault that Org.s that are listed as "Terrorist" orgnizations by the US State Dept (like the Albanian Liberation Front) can purchase Assult Weapons, and .50 caliber rifles and ship them overseas from the U.S. wait..sorry...thats the National Rifle bad.

Whats more interesting is what was the FBI intending on doing with the Collected info?

And how the hell can they claim that they don't have enough manpower to fight for Homeland Security if they can waste time investigating "Greenpeace"??

/I swear to of these days I will locate Joe McArthys grave and piss
/all over it.

The ACLU is in favor of anti-discrimination laws.

Those laws are government attempts to legislate morality.

Only complete assholes (the most arrogant of the arrogant farks) would ever condone or support enforcing morality by stifling individual freedom.

It is complete bullshiat, and these assholes only support it because they agree with it. They are enforcing "our" morality, so it is OK when they do it. It is only wrong when the "other guy" does it.

farking hypocrites. I wish "Hell" existed so you selfish self-appointed moralist scumbags could go there.
2005-07-18 05:17:07 PM
Okay, fellas, and when you finish with NAMBLA, be sure to pick up on the KKK, too (unless, you know, you think that might weaken your position...).

The fact that these groups are unpopular--despicable, even--makes the ACLU's point the more worth making. The First Amendment doesn't only apply to popular speech, but to despicable speech, and nearly all other speech, as well.

When you defend the outer boundaries of that-most-crucial principle's applications, the important stuff stays safe from the inevitable incursions of those in power.
2005-07-18 05:17:59 PM
Some of these groups are involved with enviro-terrorists and criminals, should they really be surprised? When top government officials such as judges or diplomats travel to the various cities in the US their security wants intel on anyone who has a history of anti-government activity, no doubt these files are a large part of that.

And if they think the FBI is using these for intimidation, well thats just to bad because intimidation is a tactic these groups us as well.

What the hell? We know for a fact that there are al Qaeda sleeper cells operating within our borders, we know for a fact that there are severe deficiencies in our security infrastructure, and we know for a fact that our borders are more porous than a screen door. And our law enforcement and intelligence agencies are writing up thousands of pages on the hippies at Greenpeace?

This is farking borderline criminal negligence. Un-farking-believable. If you had told me five years ago that our government would misappropriate intelligence assets for political purposes, putting the lives of millions of Americans at risk, I probably would have laughed myself sick.

Welcome to 2005 America, I guess.

"P&T: Bullshiat" had an episode about Greenpeace (well, the group was featured in an episode).

After seeing what kind of farking morons affiliate themselves with that group, I am not worried about it as much.

Activists managed to block a pipe discharging waste into a nearby cana>

What kind of wastes was being discharged? Around here (SE Michigan) it was found that a number of canals contained dioxin. Now the residents have to pay to clean it up. It sure would have been nice if someone blocked that waste before it got into the canals.
2005-07-18 05:20:07 PM
The Alliance Defense Fund and Liberty Counsel are for me.

Well I guess they are only good if you want religious rights defended. I'd prefer to have *all* my rights defended, not just the ones fundamentalists think are good for me.
