I have tubes of lip balm (and also moisturizer) next to my bed, in the bathroom, in my purse and at my office. I may only apply a few times a day, but I can't stand being without it.

Oh, and PSA: licking your lips only makes them more chapped. That's the problem I have with flavored/scented chap sticks. I just want to lick them off. My current favorite lip balm: Azida hemp oil lip balm, natural flavor. It's thick, waxy and unflavored.

I make my own lip balm.

Ingredients:

1 oz white beeswax
4 oz sweet almond oil
1 oz alkanet root, diced


Boil alkanet root and oil, until oil is stained dark purple. (Alkanet is a safe, natural dye, can be found in most herbal stores). Strain out alkanet bits.

Now melt the wax in the oil. When it is fully melted, take a small spoon and get a bit, put it in the fridge. When it has cooled, test it for consistency. If it's too hard, add more oil to the mix. If it's too soft, add more wax.

If it's perfect, with a hard crust but a soft interior, take your mixture and pour it into your lip balm containers. Makes about 12 small pots. Color is a rosey pink.

For taste - if you want to add in flavourings, I recommend adding a bit of honey, or, some pepermint extract. But most of the time I don't bother with adding flavourants.

Warning - wax + oil can get superheated when you are cooking it, so make sure it never boils... or you will end up with pink waxy bits stuck to your ceiling.

That stuff is really addictive!! The cops just raided a crystal chap-lab that was running in the trailer down the street. That would explain the weird smells coming from that place.

I buy a chapstick everytime i go to the drugstore. They just disappear the minute I put them away. I found one that was at least 3 years old. Just had to scrape the hard part and it was brand new!!! I needed it badly :(

Lip balm/chapstick is stupid... Most of the time (remember I said most of the time) chapped lips are caused by a bacteria that you trap on your damn lips with this greasy stuff and it continues to chap and you just continue to use the stuff.
