2005-07-07 09:45:05 PM
That's a damn fine article.

The Human Spirit lives.

2005-07-07 09:45:25 PM
This is so me when I die.

2005-07-07 09:45:26 PM
sounds to me like this guy may have had a clown suit or two in his closet

There are moments like this when I see that people can be better than animals.

But the rest of the time I hate the world and everyone in it.

I agree with you on all counts...Well, not EVERYONE...just the few trusted people I have.

Rest in peace...

Yea, great human spirit when he dies. farker got a paragraph for an obit. Not a damn one of us would have thought about this yahoo one way or the other before reading the story. Now you idiots praise the masses for caring so deeply.

God I hate the third rock.

He sounds like a Farker.

What a great story on such an otherwise lousy day.

2005-07-07 09:55:45 PM

"The society has raised about $1,400 for a bronze headstone."

When I die, I'm not picky about my headstone. I don't want a headstone of bronze, I rather have a headstone MADE FROM THE GROUND UP BONEDUST OF ALL MY ENEMIES !!!!

Ahem.

2005-07-07 09:56:05 PM
I'm thinking as the dirt hit the top of his casket, he thought, why the fark did I waste my life?

2005-07-07 09:56:16 PM
Imagine that. Finally, after all these years, the guy gets a free ride.

2005-07-07 09:56:32 PM
Where's the obituary?

2005-07-07 09:57:04 PM
man n black, cynical are we?

2005-07-07 10:00:30 PM
A bit late, if you ask me.

/better than nothing?

2005-07-07 10:02:29 PM
I think this (pops) is the obit, though it's more of an article and it ends detailing what will be done with his remains if nobody comes forward.

That's probably the item in question, as I doubt a simple 4 line entry on the obits page would have spurred anyone into action.

2005-07-07 10:05:33 PM
Now if only people would do so much for the living.

/Killjoy.

2005-07-07 10:07:17 PM
And, more interestingly, here (pops) is the thread at the Professional Car Society's Forum, where they mention giving this man a dignified funeral then go to work doing it.

[/behold the power of professionalcar.org]

man n black:

Yea, great human spirit when he dies. farker got a paragraph for an obit.

And what have you done that was so great, pray tell?

Not a damn one of us would have thought about this yahoo one way or the other before reading the story. Now you idiots praise the masses for caring so deeply.

Every damn day Fark posts links to stories where people are acting like subhuman trolls, but once, just once, one manages to slip through where the subjects actually act like real human farking beings, and all you can do is call people names? Dear farking God.

If they'd have acted like the self-absorbed biatches you seem to think that they are, you'd have still b*tched.

2005-07-07 10:13:53 PM
It's easy to care after they're dead. No real action is required. It's not like caring when they're alive and you have to go visit the drooling bore.

2005-07-07 10:16:08 PM
I agree with RockIsDead where were these people when he was still alive, and could actually care about what kind of headstone they would install for his burial place?

2005-07-07 10:17:12 PM
It may be the pain killers I'm on, but isn't a little odd that this Robert drove a blue & white cadillac with the word "Shepard"written on it and the guy from the Professional Car Society who took the initiative to raise money for a funeral is named "Robert Shepard"?

/poor sentence structure

2005-07-07 10:18:18 PM
There are a lot of people like this, drones. You may be one and not even know it.

2005-07-07 10:18:40 PM
Poor "Orbs".

People never noticed or cared about him until after he wasn't around to know or recieve their well wishes.

They say Orbs died of congestive heart failure, but we know he really died of a broken heart.

2005-07-07 10:18:49 PM
oh yeah, here's the obit (pops).

2005-07-07 10:19:43 PM
Go get 'em Orbs.

RIP

2005-07-07 10:20:30 PM
Here's the original one-paragraph obituary his friend wrote for him:

Robert "Orbs" TIEDEMANN From the 1950's in the 1980's, Bob Tiedemann traveled around Seattle in a big blue and white Cadillac. It said "Shepard" on the door. It was the only job he ever had. The ambulance was the only car he had and he kept it immaculate. The majority of his clothes were uniforms. His only shoes were a pair of black polished oxfords. He lived at the station he worked out of. He was known as Orbs. He was happy. He was the ambulance man. He died peacefully in the early morning hours of June 3rd. He was 64. He leaves nothing behind. He has no next of kin. His family are the Shepard Ambulance personnel, the nurses, doctors, firefighters, police and patients who remember him. Here's to you ambulance man. Have a safe trip.

2005-07-07 10:21:38 PM
From ScreamingInDigital's link:

As a medic, Mr. Tiedemann didn't break any speed records on his way to an accident scene. He would never go over the speed limit and would often be passed on the freeway while heading to an aid call, his colleagues said.

Nice job, Pops.

2005-07-07 10:21:59 PM
duck_marsh: man n black, cynical are we?

Do you wonder why he always dresses in black?
Why you never see bright colours on his back?
Why does his appearance seem to have a sombre tone?
There's a reason for the things that he has on.

Smirky the Wonder Chimp:

Every damn day Fark posts links to stories where people are acting like subhuman trolls...

You mean posts links to stories, and then WE act like subhuman trolls. "Glass parking lot! Let the homeless starve! Sterilize the poor! Rape Ann Coulter with her own severed penis!" We're a depressing news story in ourselves.

2005-07-07 10:22:12 PM
With a nickname like Orbs, I thought many he had really big tits.

This is amazing: "He was a happy man for the simple life he led," Tews said. "When he moved out of the station, he could carry all his possessions and still open the door."

I'm in the process of moving, and I'm suddenly aware of how much stuff I own. I can't even fit it all in a 24' U-haul truck. Makes me wonder who is happier.

/starts planning a yard sale

2005-07-07 10:23:00 PM
Boy, will they all be embarrassed when, in a few months, it becomes known that he was a child molestor, or a nazi, or that he didn't believe the moon landings ever happened, or something.

Just kidding.

Sorta.

I imagine my my funeral will be like in the movies where no one arrives except the mortician. He's standing the back of the room picking at his fingernails trying to decide between day old meatloaf or pizza for dinner.

I don't think EMT's typically speed on the way to a call. Wrecking up their rig doesn't get the sick guy to the hospital any faster, after all. He was probably passed on the highway because there are maniacs out there who do 150 kph in a 100 kph zone.

Assign Fark IDs to Goth numbers as required.

Goth 1: [with black puffy, feathery hair, streaked in red] Life is pain. Life is only pain. [his large bang falls over his right eye, he jerks his head back to put the bang in place] We're all taught to believe in happy fairytale endings. [his bang fall over his eye, he jerks his head back] But there's only blackness. Dark, depressing loneliness that [his bang fall over his eye, he jerks his head back] eats at your soul.
Goth 2: [dressed in something like a tuxedo, sporting a curly pompadour] Who needs that kind of Barbie love, anyway? Everyone's just walking around like a bunch of conforminsts. Go ahead and wear your business suits so you can make thirty-four thousand dollars a year to buy your condominium. They're all zombies racing to their graves. Love didn't work for my mom and dad. Why should it work for me?
Goth Girl: My dad is such an asshole. Drunken bastard doesn't even know I exist. But then he won't let me go to the Skinny Puppy concert because my heroine-addict aunt is coming over for dinner. [takes a puff] Dinner? That's a laugh. Just an excuse for my mom to biatch at me for not wearing girly clothes like all the Britney Spears wannabes at this school.
Little Goth: They're all a bunch of Nazi conformists cheerleaders. [Stan looks stunned at the age of this youngest of Goths]
Stan: But if life is only pain, then... what's the point of living?
Goth 1: Just to make life more miserable for the conformists. [his bang fall over his eye, he jerks his head back]
Stan: All right, so how do I join you?
Goth 2: If you wanna be one of the non-conformists, all you have to do is dress just like us and listen to the same music we do.
Stan: ...'K.

This was the perfect opportunity to use the "Sappy" tag and it gets passed up. Next thing you know people will start misusing the "Ironic" tag. Wait...

2005-07-07 10:29:49 PM
No Such Agency: I don't think EMT's typically speed on the way to a call.

If we hypothesize for a moment that that is the case, then it is in no way noteworthy that this guy never sped.

2005-07-07 10:31:15 PM
I think his life story would be a cool movie.... Tom Hanks, where are you????

2005-07-07 10:31:56 PM
Godspeed. This article is the kind that reminds me that there are some good folks left out there in the world.

"He was the ambulance guy, a natty little guy,"

..and they both left the world a little better for having been here.

Washington state just kicks all kind of ass. Aside from our tendency to breed serial killers and nutjob schoolteachers who marry their students.

Great story.

Riiiiggghht.....Kay then.

2005-07-07 11:07:08 PM
When I read inspires friends, co-workers into action in the headline, I thought they had gone to seek out other likewise all-alone humans to give some companionship.

How sad that it was just a bunk of feel-gooders doing something more about making themselves feel better than anything affecting anyone else.

2005-07-07 11:07:52 PM
Say what you want, but when I'm dead...wait a minute; I won't give a shiat when I'm dead. Nevermind...
