Re: The guy who said that the drums on "Pour Some Sugar on Me" sound like they were made by a drum machine...weren't they?
2005-07-06 05:09:13 PM
I agree with all of them except Queen and maybe the Doors.
Shoulda been replaced with "Holla Back Girl" or whatever that albino chick is singing.
2005-07-06 05:10:08 PM
actually, I think they were made by a guy with one arm.

at least he didn't include Stairway on the list
2005-07-06 05:12:06 PM
oasis isnt that bad

arrogant pricks sure.
2005-07-06 05:13:21 PM
2005-07-06 05:13:49 PM
The press was declaring them the second coming of the Beatles, but Lennon/McCartney never wrote anything this sappy.

Has he heard the lyrics to Michelle lately?

I love you, I love you, I love you.
That's all I want to say.
Until I find a way
I will say the only words I know that
You'll understand.

But I guess if you're singing to a stupid girl, trying to get into her pants, sappy is better than compex...

Why 13?

Why not 12. Or 14.

/just sayin
2005-07-06 05:15:11 PM
Come on baby, light my fire.
2005-07-06 05:17:10 PM
OMG, they took on the Fall AND made fun of Pitchfork!!!

NO WAY!!! This is huge in the world of rock criticism.

2005-07-06 05:22:00 PM
Ok, most of his criticism is off-point, and obscure music by unknown artists can not, by definition, be over-rated.
2005-07-06 05:23:28 PM
sounds like Bruce has just run a marathon and now he's trying to sing, with its breathless lyrics and insistent chiming.

Have you listened to a Bruce song...ever? Sheesh.

Also, words like that can get you killed in Jersey miss.
2005-07-06 05:24:43 PM
Wasn't "Come on baby Light my fire" written by the guitarist?
2005-07-06 05:25:49 PM
"hey! look how crap these songs are! wanna buy them ?"

all the arseholes and talentless hacks not in real music journalism must have contributed to this....

there's no bad music, only differing taste.
2005-07-06 05:26:18 PM

WTF biatch, I just saw Skynard on the 4th of July.....tell all the people there screaming for Freebird it's overrated.

2005-07-06 05:26:39 PM

yep..robby krieger.
2005-07-06 05:29:33 PM
was Pour Some Sugar On Me ever even rated so that it could be overrated?
2005-07-06 05:33:26 PM
"What's Going On?" by Four Non Blondes.
2005-07-06 05:34:03 PM
Freebird...the mantra of the moron - Bill Hicks
2005-07-06 05:40:03 PM
How in the sweet chocolate Christ did "Stairway to Heaven" miss this list?

/or the entire Zeppelin catalog for that matter.
2005-07-06 05:43:38 PM
i call evolution to bull shiat multiplier
2005-07-06 05:56:12 PM

Absolutely! All of those and one more.
I don't have to worry about them cutting up my Pink Card since I never really fit in with the other Gays, but I have to add "MacArthur Park". Its some kind of Gay National Anthem but, hate that thing. Hate it.

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

Richard Harris should have been repeatedly slapped about with a large trout and then been subjected to a nasty french taunting.

2005-07-06 06:48:48 PM
I think Bob Seger's Old Time Rock N Roll should be on that list. I have found that it serves no purpose except to get old people to dance funny at weddings.
2005-07-06 07:01:57 PM

Why 13?

Why not 12. Or 14.

That's what I was thinking too. Usually its a top 10, top 20, or uh, top 14.
2005-07-06 07:02:46 PM
Pretty decent list. I think the Doors are the most overrated BAND ever. [Oasis not too far behind.]

I disagree with including Bohemian Rhapsody.
2005-07-06 07:04:22 PM
Why 13?

Why not 12. Or 14.

Maybe it was limited to those who responded?

Just because a bunch of drunk or obnoxious concert-goers yell out "Freebird!" doesn't make it not a great song.
2005-07-06 07:32:06 PM
Thank goodness American Pie is on that list. I never could hang with that song.

The rest of the

OK, OK, my dislike of American Pie is subjective, too.
2005-07-06 08:00:02 PM
Mac Arthur Park, idiotic, meaningless lyrics, but incredible delivery. Richard Harris was a genius actor.
2005-07-06 08:00:38 PM
6 Pins: or the entire Zeppelin catalog for that matter.

2005-07-06 08:23:44 PM
Glasgowsfinest, please tell me your not one of those sycophant's that actually believes Zeppelin was anything beyond an above average bar band with a great PR machine. Their music is basically the same cords repeated ad nauseam.
2005-07-06 08:36:21 PM
6 Pins

Amen Brother! If not the whole catalog then at least Stairway.
2005-07-06 08:40:28 PM
14. Blister In The Sun
2005-07-06 08:54:19 PM
"Imagine" is actually one dreary song, not among Lennon's best. "Imagine" is an amelodic dirge really, with lyrics cribbed from the communist manifesto. Its Phil Spector production is murky, it's not hummable, and it's too soupy for rock, but too joyless for pop.

2005-07-06 09:33:06 PM
JerseyTim 14. Blister In The Sun

If I gave a damn about what other people like and don't like, I'd give you a fight on this one. And it's a good thing you didn't say Add It Up...
2005-07-06 09:50:16 PM
I have to say I like I Hate the TV, Gone Daddy Gone, and American Music better, Nerdlinger, but I'll give it up for Add It Up.
2005-07-06 10:00:33 PM
Most underrated song:

(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

The po-lice in New York City
They chased a boy right through the park
In a case of mistaken identity
They put a bullet through his heart

Heart breakers with your forty four
I wanna tear your world apart
You heart breaker with your forty four
I wanna tear your world a part .......
2005-07-06 10:01:12 PM
CindiBear I have to say I like I Hate the TV, Gone Daddy Gone, and American Music better

Sure. And Country Death Song, Black Girls, Mother of a Girl, Dating Days, etc. But I'm guessing most folk aren't too familiar with those.
2005-07-06 10:05:48 PM
Violent Femmes are great.
2005-07-06 10:37:04 PM
No, no, no, no, no, no, and no.

Celine Dion - "My Heart Will Go On" = Overrated
Backstreet Boys - "It's Going to be Me" = Overrated
Creed - "My Own Prision" = Overrated
The Beatles - "Love Me Do" = Overrated

Don McClean - "American Pie" - Only one of the most intriguing songs ever written (and not overrated)

I'm glad I could clear things up for you.
2005-07-06 11:22:17 PM
C'mon. Freebird isn't so much overrated as terribly cliched. Every drunken idiot thinks its funny to yell freebird at the band in the bar.
2005-07-06 11:33:33 PM
I disagree about "Imagine"

any song that can get the fundies and the right-wingers in a huff (Imagine there's no heaven) is all right by me...:D

and "Light my Fire" is cool...we've just heard it too many times.

I think there should be a list of songs that get a mandatory five year blackout on radio. I'm sure a lot of them are in this thread, I'm sure a lot of them we hold dear to our hearts, but we've got to stop bashing ourselves in the ears, people...killing the very stuff we love...
2005-07-06 11:42:18 PM
This whole list sucks.

Really though, most lists like this suck anyway.

They're designed to make you go "WTF?" and argue and make
more people click the link. It's like journo-trolling.
2005-07-06 11:44:17 PM
Boobies: It's like journo-trolling.

2005-07-07 12:10:42 AM
while I agree most of those songs are overplayed, to call the Overrated is absurd.

/your Favorite Band sucks
2005-07-07 12:11:48 AM

They're designed to make you go "WTF?" and argue and make
more people click the link. It's like journo-trolling.

But it makes people talk about the issue. It's not a definitive list, and no such list exists.

That's why when ESPN had their "Who's No. 1?" list shows, Stuart Scott ended each episode with "Let the debating begin."
2005-07-07 12:12:24 AM
Anything by U2 is the most overrated piece of shiat ever.
2005-07-07 12:12:42 AM
And the top two songs of all time

Danger Zone -- Kenny Loggins

Mighty Wings -- Cheap Trick
2005-07-07 12:12:59 AM
Who in the hell is Annie?
2005-07-07 12:14:35 AM
Judging by a lot of the recent threads I would have to say pretty much any Pink Floyd song should have been on that list.
