2002-04-12 10:37:57 AM
People will actually worship a god that destroys them? Damn, this brightens my day!

bug
2002-04-12 10:40:10 AM
Shiva is actually Joan Rivers.

2002-04-12 10:41:21 AM
waiting for an Apu reference.....

2002-04-12 10:44:47 AM
Yep, bus accidents don't happen to pilgrims in America or anywhere else in the world.

2002-04-12 10:45:21 AM
Oh c'mon, Shiva isn't the god of violent destruction, just the god of natural decay and inevitable destruction of all things.

2002-04-12 10:45:48 AM
Road trip to sight of Hindu God of Sex or Lust and orgies ensue?

2002-04-12 10:47:12 AM
Man Christianity is boring as hell in comparison...

2002-04-12 10:47:59 AM
Almost as ironic as the story I heard yesterday on Foxnews about black people suing "The Cracker Barrel" restaurant for discrimination.

2002-04-12 10:48:25 AM
This is NOT a good use of the ironic tag. Jesus.

Farkin'A:
[[Road trip to sight of Hindu God of Sex or Lust and orgies ensue]]

Take a swig of the 'idiot juice' this morning, guy?

2002-04-12 10:51:06 AM
Wow, that is pretty ironic.

2002-04-12 10:51:27 AM

How is this ironic? I mean if Shiva smote them while they were on the way to worship him that'd be one thing, but this?

2002-04-12 10:51:34 AM
Thermos:
"I am the God, Genesh! This wedding angers me. It will break up or all will die!"
Ok, so it was Homer, not Apu, who actually said it, but sadly it was the first thing I thought of when I read this article.

2002-04-12 10:54:46 AM
Do you people even know what irony means? I don't know why this always pisses me off, but it does goddamnit. farking Christ.

Luke 13.1 Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2 Jesus answered, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? 3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. 4 Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them--do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish."

Ezekiel 25:17. "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."

With religion: you end up dead

Without religion: you end up dead

That's all we know, so Bevets & co you can't claim afterlife or anything.

So, from this equation, I determine that I'd rather be free of religious systems and live my life my way before I end up dead.

2002-04-12 11:05:02 AM
hehehe Nsquark I love that movie. Good one.

2002-04-12 11:05:36 AM
ironic? should be obvious......

2002-04-12 11:05:54 AM
Desiji: I don't think anyone here is trying to be insulting to the Hindu religion. The story is just funny in an ironic way. This isn't insulting so don't get defensive. Geeze.

2002-04-12 11:06:57 AM
Please do not feed peanuts to my god.

2002-04-12 11:08:20 AM
I bet someone warned them not to go worship a god of destruction. That's the good advice that they just couldn't take.

Shiva wears a tiger skin and a snake collar; his hair is tied in the knot of the ascetic and adorned with the crescent moon and trident. He is shown with his third eye open, or this is indicated by three lines on his forehead; he has a variable number of arms, usually four. Shiva rides on the bull Nandi, and so holy is he that even his mount has become a god.

Hehehe, it says his third eye.

2002-04-12 11:22:19 AM
Shiva is also known as Lord of the Dance.

1 Corinthians 15.12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?

Hebrews 9.27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,

The only Shiva I'm aware of is the summon spell "Shiva" from the Final Fantasy games. She's the ice cold goddess who freezes her enemies.

2002-04-12 11:25:35 AM
All farkers who have misused the ironic tag are now required to read this article and write a 500 word essay on why this is a proper use of a tag and why their's was an embarassment

Somebody photoshop this religious fanatic, bevets aka: steve and what i assume is his little sister.

2002-04-12 11:30:11 AM
Once again Bevets, I ask you...

Are all Hindus going to hell because they don't believe in Jesus? (a.k.a. The Way, the Truth & the Light, a.k.a. Jebus, a.k.a. that crazy carpenter, a.k.a. Nazareth's Most Famous Son)

2002-04-12 11:33:27 AM
And don't preach to AnonyMouse, she is cool and doesn't need your religion.

Nsquark

Somebody photoshop this religious fanatic,

Do you consider everyone that holds opinions different than your own a fanatic?

bevets aka: steve and what i assume is his little sister.

You assume incorrectly

No, but i do consider people that quote the bible in every other post to be religious fanatics. I didn't even give an opinion, so how do you know it's different than yours? It's probably a safe to assume but how do you know?

2002-04-12 11:45:38 AM
WarmBeer: I wouldn't hold my breath on that third buzzer... Bevets appears to be unwilling to answer my question... which I find hard to believe, because the dude clearly knows his Scripture.

Look at bevets website, you will find your third buzzer there patiently waiting for you.

I agree with Lurk, Ironic is contrary to the thing you would expect.

For example if you go to the beach and you expect it to be warm, and it's cold, that's ironic to what you would expect.

Look the word up in the dictionary.

John 14.6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Acts 4.12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.

And don't preach to AnonyMouse, she is cool and doesn't need your religion.

Are you the only one allowed to preach here? Everyone needs Jesus.

John 14.6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Someone explain to me again why it's valid to use the Bible to prove the validity of the Bible?

ironic? should be obvious

Right on! God, how many times do people need to be shown the farking definition for irony before you understand it? Death and destruction raining down on those that worship the god of death and destruction is something you would expect! It is the antithesis of irony!

I quote the Bible because it is True. Truth is always relevant.

now this is Ironic to the max

Someone explain to me again why it's valid to use the Bible to prove the validity of the Bible?

The truth of the Bible has been verified by Jesus who is God and who proved He is God by historical physical resurrection. Do you assume the Bible is not valid? Why?

2002-04-12 12:06:12 PM
The truth of the Bible has been verified by Jesus who is God and who proved He is God by historical physical resurrection.

See there it is again.

"Jesus is God."
"How do you know?"
"Because he was resurrected."
"Well how do you know that?"
"Because the Bible says so."
"Well how do you know that?"
"Because Jesus said so."

Erm....

Time for an english lesson:

People dying on the way to seeing the shrine of a god of destruction and dying is NOT IRONY. It's COINCIDENCE.

People dying on the way to see the shrine of a god of LIFE and dying is a form of IRONY.

George Carlin also had a great example of irony:

An old man on his way to get penicillin getting hit by a sugar truck is not irony. Once again, it's coincidence.

An old man on his way to get penicillin and getting hit by a penicillin truck is irony.

2002-04-12 12:08:08 PM
The bible is just like any other book you find in the fiction catagory.

and you had the nerve to state:John 14.6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Then why are you preaching? I'm not preaching, i was simply making a joke with the quote from Pulp Fiction.

2002-04-12 12:12:32 PM
The truth of the bible has not been verified by Jesus, and their is no historical proof that a man was resurrected from the dead 2000 years ago.
