That was the greatest fireworks display I've ever seen.

That was almost entirely like having sex with me.
30 seconds of "ooh and aaah", 1 huge explosion then people standing around saying "that doesn't look good" and wondering what happend afterward.

Wow... wow... sucks that people got hurt... otherwise it'd be a great story for the bar today...

I had a pretty good fireworks scare this weekend. One of my illegal (thank you South Carolina!!) fireworks decided to tip over and randomly shoot in different directions. No one got hurt and the house didn't catch on fire. :)

For those of you on a non-windows system, their fancy VBScript video player probably won't work. Video link here

Anyone have the link to the Fireworks Factory explosion?

That video is one of the best I have ever seen on the net.

armybottom I googled "Fireworks Factory explosion" and got this

Save yourself some time. When the asplosions stop, close the window. They have almost 90 seconds of people just standing around.

That happened where I live once.

Supposedly, one of the pyrotechnic guys had a sizeable portion of his face blown off.

I was at a show like that once about 12 years ago. About 5 fireworks went off before everything stopped, and then you could see explosions over where the tubes were, and fire trucks converging on them. The best part was the fact that everyone had to use the same road to get out of the park, which meant an hour and a half wait to get out of the park after seeing a 30 second show.

This almost happened in Monterey last night. A firework went off on the barge at sea level, creating a half-sphere explosion. It was pretty cool but it didn't set anything else off and they continued with the show.

My inlaw's garage burned down this weekend. Jackhole rich kids up for the weekend emitting showers of sparks over the entire neighborhood. Get a call from my wife, who's housesitting, involving sobbing and lots of noise, requesting my presence there, NOW. I arrive to find 8, count them, eight, emergency vehicles parked all over the damn place.

Then some little stoned asshole shows up on a boat and asks, and I quote, "What's going on?" before the police start grilling them about their weekend festivities.

When I was a kid we would unravel our Black Cat firecrackers into a coffee can, then spend all day blowing up cans, horned toads, etc. Loads of fun until my Dad came along and dropped a match into the coffee can...

"That doesn't look good"

That's probably the understatement of the year.

I saw something like this when I was younger, probably only a couple of hundred feet away. Even one of the mortar cases landed near me.

/ah, the memories.

Sure beat my fireworks display up in the local park. Me and 10 other neighbors....

Kids would have loved that one.

I love streaming video at 8 bits per second.

kinda makes a multi-megabit dsl connection a bit pointless.

A couple years ago, a guy I knew came home from out of town to find his apartment toasted and his cats dead. Someone had shot a firework through the screen in his window and with nobody home, it caught fire and completely torched the place, killing his two cats and burning up all of his stuff.

And last night, a bunch of punk asses in our neighborhood were shooting them off in the parking lot -- feet from the cars, trees, and balconies of our neighbors.

I hate punk-ass kids. A lot.

I was at the Alton, IL (Just north of St. Louis) fireworks show (1992?) when they had that happen but on a much larger scale. Fortunately, it was on a barge in the middle of the Mississippi, and nobody was hurt (that I know of).

About 5 minutes into the show, BOOM!, everything went off, the crowd went wild, then all looked kind of stunned.

/Hermann holds Octoberfest for the region.

" The important job was to collect any evidence and fireworks that didn't go off."

Yeah, THATS the important job...

BTW, don't police ambulance and Fire departments attend these functions? Whats with the help coming from over the bridge?
2005-07-05 09:07:15 PM
Funny how the people just sat there and didn't even know that anything was happening.

/where's all the fireworks ma?
2005-07-05 09:07:30 PM
ha! This happened in Naples, Maine last year!!! It was awesome. Once it was out of control, the guys jumped off the barge and into the lake (that was the scary part) and people hung around waiting for the show to "end" but the smart ones knew a small town in Maine couldn't rival 5 minutes of Boston style fireworks!!!
2005-07-05 09:08:23 PM
Why did it take a fire truck 2 full minutes to get on the scene? Isn't that the first rule of fireworks safety?

Oh, and I think Heroic Poser wins the thread.

Damn, now everybody comes out with the no-ad links. Too late for me. I was exposed to the 10-second ad and have already made plans to fly out to Missouri to buy a Cadillac.

Small town also has problems hiring journalists that can write coherent sentences:
They were transported to a Columbia hospital are identified as 26 year old Brad Link (he has been treated and released), 25 year old James Pollard, (also treated and released), and 17 year old Corey Carson (hospitalized and his condition is stable).

Hermann is a cute lil town, most of its native residents being descendents of German immigrants. Its most famous for its beer gardens and Oktoberfest.

Not implying anything...

There was one in 97 at Alton, and people did die, I think 3? One at the scene and two went into the river without lifejackets. I was at that one (I'm in Godfrey, just north), dunno about 92, I would have been 12.

I think we must have a learning disorder in this area or something, seems like we're always blowing up.

Heroicposer does get the thread.

But. How many people DO you have standing around watching you having sex?

I read that two or three times and though it was great, laughed a bit. Then for whatever reason, while simultaneously sipping a Coca-Cola and reading, when I got to "people standing around and saying 'that doesn't look good'" for the fourth time... that's what caused me to launch my Coke for the first time ever in a Fark thread.

Pretty Tulsa Fireworks Pics (pops) -- no earth-shattering explosion.

We had our own small scare. Some friends spent a small fortune on a bunch of fireworks to set off at the lake last night. Well, one fell off its stand and shot off sideways. It missed my 10 yr old and his friend by about 6 inches. Poor kid. He comes walking over, slowly shaking his head, and completely straight faced said "THAT scared the crap out of me". It was too funny (him just being so slow and quietly serious) to yell at him for talking like that. Then the poor kid couldnt figure out why we were all laughing.

Actually, I was glad that he made me laugh. Otherwise I probably would have been crying. The rest of the fireworks were great, but I had to force myself to stop imagining what almost happened to my kid.

Fireworks...absolutely love them, but will be loving them from a much larger distance next year.
