So many great players in the draft, and the Lakers pin their hopes on a 17yr old kid who writes and spells like the 1000's of idiots populating the web.

The Lakers just guaranteed themselves of not making the playoffs, at least for next year.

It was truly a sign of the apocalypse when the Lakers had a pick AHEAD of the Clippers.

Meanwhile, this kid just made more money than all of us put together in our entire lifetimes.

/what's with the hate?
//not an NBA or Lakers fan

does he rub his lips together? that would be very original.

I'm a Lakers fan...and I was pretty excited when the Lakers chose him. As for his smarts, he scored a 1050 SAT and has a 3.6 GPA. I know. I've seen his Myspace account and made fun of it. But whatever.

He's 7-0, 270 pounds now and most have said that he has good handles and a nice jumper. He is allegedly going to work with Kobe on his conditioning which is something he needs. He's not going to break any rookie records. Mitch Kupchak, Lakers GM, has said that he may not play a whole lot, maybe only in blowouts. Being optimistic, I say he plays maybe 10 minutes per game this year, 15 by next year, and 20+ by year three.

The biggest advantage he has over other young centers and power forwards in the league is his weight. Most guys like Amare and Garnett were rail thin when they came in. His sheer size will make him a decent defender (though it's said that he's skilled) and rebounder.

2005-07-02 02:00:47 AM
one thing, he is gonna get some grade A 'poon' from what ive seen on myspace.

about him in league. i cannot wait for him to get bullied around bigger types such as shaq, ben 'gimme yo wallet biatch' wallace, and tim 'robot' duncan. BUT the best will be watching him try to guard amare stoudamire. oh my lord, there will be plenty of posters of amare dunking something sic on this poor child. oh amare dont hurt him, he is just 17!

submitter needs to quit reading skip bayless. the guy is the preeminent sports columnist attention whore.

however this pick bodes very unwell for l.a.

we have a coach who hates rookies and a star who won't pass to a big guy playing in front of fans who aren't even bandwagon -- they're champion-parade-only-wagon.

if myspace was a big deal, what about this

/go kings
//yeah, they got major issues too

2005-07-02 02:11:59 AM
Slobberbone, you a member at clublakers? They found a bunch of players' pages and posted the links. Btw, who has the most assists to Shaq in his career? The guy who won't pass to the big guy. By a long shot.

I'll whore out my myspace profile as well.

here

2005-07-02 02:18:17 AM
oh jeebus. i guar-annn-teee i am not somebody trolling a lakers board. kobe handled the ball most during the lakes threerun. of course he is gonna lead in assists to clanq. empty stat.

i was trying to defend the kid. he's a kid, ferchrissake. he has a profile on myspace. bayless obviously doesn't understand the internets.

2005-07-02 02:22:57 AM
slobberbone, I wasn't suggesting that you're a troll. Just wondered if you were a member. It's easy to forget Kobe's assists...6 per game last season as a shooting guard. Not too shabby.

k0pr0phage, understood. when yer a kings guy commenting on lakes stuff you know to play defense early. unlike the kings unfortunately.

but, again, kobe's assists are a bad stat. the guy is a talent, no doubt, but anyone who monopolizes the ball as much as he does is gonna get his. he's not a sg per se, but more of a point forward. which is why i'm looking forward to scottie pippen joining the lakers bench so he can teach him how to ...

* have an unregistered gun in his car
* refuse to enter the final seconds of a playoff game because a play wasn't called for him
* fake sick for half a season the team is trying to win it all

/ok, maybe i am a troll
//more worried about kings than lakers
///have just met a halfway polite lakers fan online and must adjust worldview

skip bayless is strong on supporting skip bayless. and talking about how skip bayless is important. if you don't agree, just ask skip bayless. skip bayless bases this on something skip bayless observed on tv years ago that everyone else saw. that observation leads his next column

/bay area sportstalk likes him too
//ugh, the guy is a walking resume

"I'm Skip Bayless, and I approve this column".

I keep expecting to see that at the end of his stuff. :)

beefstick-

Hummers are so passe, it will be a Maybach, probably w/ diamond studded spinning wheels, 15 TV's and DVD players, a couple video game consoles, and subwoofers big enough to be measured on the Richter scale.

I predict that within 90 days one or a number of the following headlines will apear:

"Prince Andrew raped me"
"Laker's 1st round pick arrested for assault"
"Shooting at party hosted by Laker's rookie"

/actually hope the kid proves me wrong

We have great role models these days. Illiterate, overpaid jocks. Kids, get a different role model. The NBA is way overrated. I grew up with Dr J and Kareem. Those guys are truly great.

Can't wait till this kid breaks his leg and ends up flipping burgers.

You know, back in Madden 2001, I drafted this kick-ass quarterbeck named Andrew Bayless. For a year I decided that was the coolest last name ever.

Then I found out about Skip Bayless. I can't stand this guy.

Threadjack alert.

/rant on

MySpace is owned by Intermix Media (MIX), previously known as eUnvierse. These are the same guys nailed by the New York attorney general for sending out spyware in their ads (they settled for a huge seven figure amount I believe).

They took one of the largest gaming networks online (ga-source) and buried it under their FlowGo (crap site) brand.

They also like to sell all sorts of weight-loss products, skin cremes, and other various junk that has been reported over and over not to work. These guys will either sell MySpace.com soon or run it into the ground.

Mine was one of the web companies they acquired during the big capital acquisition phase in the late 90's, early 00's. The web properties I sold them were summarily run into the ground by their management, and I was left with nothing, after my 18 month contract ran out.

holy shiat. i went to high school with the kid. i'm only a sophomore in college.

I would just like to say, for the record, Skip Bayless should be fired as an ESPN commentator and whoever edited that horrible column and approved it on a media site like ESPN should get his ass chewed out.

It's one thing calling a guy like Terrell Owens an idiot; the guy is old enough to take and deflect criticism. But for a professional columnist to post a 17-year-old KID's website in an attempt to obviously ridicule a person, that goes beyond sports journalism.

When I was 17 I was interested in girls. That was probably the big thing at that age, aside from underage drinking. Yeah, the kid might be in over his head, but he's still a kid.

Skip Bayless has zero integrity. I really expected more from a sports organization like ESPN to put the column out for everyone to see. If anyone has the online journalism editor's email address at ESPN, I'd love to write them about this.
