It's a gateway candy. Kids will taste this, and it will lead to cocaine flavored candy, then on to the hard stuff: Ludens.

I just imagine Ed, Edd and Eddie sitting around eating pot-flavored candies and drinking non-alcoholic beer.

but is that legal to block the sale of something based on it's taste. What next, nothing sweet, or is that sour?

Nothing said regarding the sale of booze filled and flavored candies.

Personally, I love the prozac flavored chicklets.

dad: Where did you learn to light candles like this? Who taught you to use candles?!
kid: From you alright?! I learned it by watching you!

Why on earth would anyone want a room that smelled like herb? So they could sit there and say, "wow, I'm not high at all. This candle is sweet."

/herb enthusiast, not offended by candle ban

New York City councilwoman plans to hold hearings on the candies this summer, and an Atlanta suburb passed a resolution opposing them, which caused merchants there to remove the treats from their shelves.

Meanwhile the homeless are still sleeping and pissing in the doorways.

Chicago is also now the most taxed city in the USA, they raised the sales tax to a whopping 9%.

People will be going to the burbs to buy thier pot flavored candy anyway. Raising taxes to this extent may very well reduce the tax collections.

They should ban Root Beer from being served or sold anywhere in Illinois... Kids may associate the "Beer" with the real thing and the next thing you know Budweiser replaces Juice boxes in the ol' school lunch.

Stop the insanity!

Glad its quitin time over here in Europe... need to head off to my local "coffee shop" now for some herb.... ahhhhhhhhh freedom.

He didn't say "Republican", he said "conservative". You can be a conservative Democrat, which may or may not be the case with the guy they quoted in the article. But anyone who thinks that candy with hemp oil is a gateway to the real thing is pretty conservative, regardless of party.

Try thinking outside of the left/right box next time.

I don't kow, it used to be, the Chicago guy is Alderman Edward Burke, who sponsored the measure. The article was also talking about NY City Council member and Atlanta both places somewhat Democratic.
This action however, is rather typical behavior of our present style of leadership all around.

Tyee:
OK I'll get out of the box, other than Zell Miller give me an example. If possible in Chicago. May be the box fits.

My point was that a lot of politicians pretty much put their finger up in the air to see which way the political air is blowing. The Chicago City Council probably knows it's just hemp oil, but don't want to appear soft on drugs.

It's the rare politician that tries to change the political winds rather than blow with the prevailing ones. There's plenty of "moderate" Democrats, by the way -- Joes Biden and Lieberman, etc. Hillary Clinton's a moderate if you look at her voting record - but I'm guessing wherever you're getting your info has demonized her as a foaming-at-the-mouth liberal. And Zell Miller is NOT a Democrat. At all.

Thank you, elected representatives, for focusing on insignificant, emotional-hot-button issues that generate kneejerk votes and make our country a dumber place to live.

"I can't imagine the degree and the extent to which people will go to make a buck -- and to make a buck on kids, trying to get them to experiment with something that is going to be a lead-in to the use of marijuana," said Alderman Edward Burke, who sponsored the measure.

Besides, Zell is such a crazy angry ol' bat that I don't think either party wants him. But seeing as how he apes the hard right's liberals-want-to-eat-your-children attacks, they love his ass.

Exactly. What we call conservative to day basicly mean one thing: socialy conservative. If you go by the classical definition, few Republicans would qualify.

2005-06-30 11:22:58 AM
Chicago is a mob town.

Your party affliation does not matter, because when you boil down to it, those elected were bought and paid for with mob dollars.

From the right to the left, it's all really orchestrated so the mob can continue their strangle hold on the transportation, sanitation and city council.

Transporation so they can 'borrow' city dump trucks when they need to offload 'merchandise'. Sanitation so they can 'dispose' of 'waste' in a fitting matter, and city council so they can get construction permits fast tracked so they can outbid and beat outside agencies to goverment contracts.

The best part about it is that the majority of it seems legit, and as long as the city worker wages remain one of the highest in the nation. (You should see a Chicago Officer pension) nothing will change and the tax will just keep going up.

Didn't they just hike the sales tax again? And wasn't that right behind a hike in the food stuffs tax?

Anyway, if you want to put a box around what the majority of politicians are in Chicago that would have to be Democratic. Some are conservative and some are very liberal, but nearly all of them are democratic in nature.

2005-06-30 11:24:16 AM
Tyee: So a conservative democrat would be an oxymoron?

Zell Miller is all kinds of moron. People/candidates who put common sense before ideology prefer to call themselves "moderates" to avoid that oxymoron.

Tyee: a Union stronghold, am I wrong?

While there was a time when Conservative meant fiscally responsible and anti union, that time has gone by the wayside for the New Conservative. They are moslty cooncerned with legislating their definition of morality. Some of those folks are also union supporters.
It's become a crazy mixed up world, except for Lola.

Funny thing is, most people agree with New Testament Christian morality - but it's the Democratic Party that actually practices it.

Republicans are still trying to grasp that whole "treat the least of these as though it was how you would treat Me" thing.

Either you don't live in chicago, or you haven't lived there very long yet and aren't aware of it's history.

When elected Harord was consistently berated against and was always up against the city council and it's head Ed Vrdolyak (Who might as well had a price tag on him he was bought over so many times). It wasn't until the court ordered redistricting in 85 until Washington was actually able to get anything done.

Shortly after his re-election in 87 he suffered a fatal 'heart attac'. At least thats the official report. Those of us in the know really know what happened. Shortly after that who do you think came to power again in Chicago?

Another Daley that's who.

Aside from the a few short stints of maybe a year, this town has been in mob hands since the late 1800's

Someone posted a story awhile back about being with their father going to a cubs game trying to park and encountering a cop.

That was rather amusing, and par for the course.

I got pulled over near lower wacker for an out plate light one late late night. I had been drinking and though while I wasn't drunk drunk, I had a small buzz going. In retrospect I probably shouldn't have been driving.

Anyway, the officer in question asked asked if I had been drinking to which I paused and replied.

"Officer I'm really really tired tonight and I just need to get near Cicero. How much do you think that could cost?"

100 bucks for a police escort I guess.

Better than getting arrested for a DWI and spending the night in lockup while the transportation dept shuffles my car around.

If candies... just eat the stems and seeds... which practices very nice birth control as well!

Or better yet a beer flavored lollipop.

I have some sort of Polish candy thats made with a dark porter.
It doesnt really taste like beer though, much too sweet.

Thank god they got this candy out of the stores.
Wait, no stores in Chicago even sell this candy yet?

At least Gov Blago will ban video games.

And great gun control in Chicago, where 24 people were shot in under 12 hours this past weekend.

Meanwhile, all this news coverage is probably the best advertising the candy company's ever had. And they didn't even have to pay for it, either.

This is stupid.
People can still order it on-line

You know, I've never heard anyone say "I don't really like getting high, I just smoke (or eat) pot for the taste."

So, can someone explain this to me? I guess it's just a gimmick like the worm in the tequila?

So these politicians are either lying, or incompetent.

a little from column a, a little from column b.

"dad: Where did you learn to light candles like this? Who taught you to use candles?!
kid: From you alright?! I learned it by watching you!'

Thank you for making my day. I needed a good trip to the 80's.

On a personal note, damn your Vikings for taking Fred Smoot. Wait until training camp starts, he'll steal the show. He's one of the funniest quotes in sports.

i think that theres 2 types of people.
multi-taskers, and idiots. and idiots are people like you.
theres no ammount of weed i can smoke to make me 'too high' to where i couldnt figure things out of a complex nature.

weed is basically the same thing as smoking a ciggerate. it gives you a little buzz to relax you. all be weed buzz does last alot longer than nicotine, and taste/smells better. but basiclaly the same thing.

I also think there's 2 types of people:
People who can figure out when I'm joking, and people who can't.

Relax, dude. Go smoke a J or something.

Oh god let's protect the children from the evil pot candies! It could lead to them injecting Snickers bars or snorting pixie sticks!

Was at Ozzfest one year and some piece of white trash was selling these pot candies. I loved his sales pitch and still laugh about it: "Long ride home? Let's get stoned!"

Yet they still sell Coca Cola, intentionally flavored to taste like the cocaine-bearing coca plant...

what a bunch of tools

Strangely, I kind of agree with this one. If it were cocaine flavored lollipops, would that be okay? Probably not, in our country's Joe Camel atmosphere.

Now, yes, onto the smoking ban. WTF?

Love Chicago. No pot-flavored candies but ...so much free'er (sp) than NY.
