Health authorities said the sand particles were too big to cause problems through inhalation... Why do I not believe this? I bet you can snort anything if you try hard enough.

"However, the sand did wonders for the Geneva area's car washes. One main street in the city was jammed yesterday morning as queues of cars, all coated with light red dust, waited to get a wash. "

Whatever happened to washing you own damn car?

2002-04-11 02:55:09 PM
Officials from Geneva's meteorological office said yesterday that rising water vapour sucked the sand up into huge clouds in Algeria and Morocco last Friday.

Man, that's some sucking.

First you complain the slopes are too icy and slick.
So Mother Nature, hearing your plea and being infinitely wise, takes the time to run her vacuum cleaner in Africa and provide you with the very grit you need to keep your ass from falling down...and what do you do?

You biatch about the sand and go wash your freaking cars!

What kind of gratitude is that? It will serve you right if she decides to dump a few inches of rain on the slopes and send you some major mud slides to keep your spring season lively!

...at least one doctor in Geneva said several patients with allergies had called him in a state of panic.
Gee, why does this not surprise me at all? People with allergies will freak out over snow if they're not used to it. It is not raining cats and/or dogs, however.

this is in California today

Dust from China may arrive today

April 11, 2002

Forecasters say that dust that blew out of a Chinese desert last week has crossed the Pacific Ocean and might pass over Southern California today, possibly turning the sky a hazy white. Such haze suggests the dust is coated with pollutants from Asia, says Charlie Zender, an atmospheric physicist at the University of California, Irvine.

The National Weather Service says low clouds will cover much of Orange County this morning but burn off to reveal mostly clear skies.

If the haze arrives and lingers, it could produce a gorgeous sunset because the dust scatters all but orange and red sunlight. The plume shouldn't pose a major health hazard.

Metalstill, down here in san diego, we have this wonderful marine layer thing that keeps most of the sky a hazy white to begin with.

Not that anyone would notice anyway.

I'm in Geneva, and boy did this suck. Well, for everyone else, at least. I have underground parking. It looks like everyone in the city went 4x4ing with their Ferraris.
