"A bookkeeper for the Florida Democratic Party took the blame Tuesday for the party's failure to pay its Social Security and payroll taxes, and said she never informed her boss, gubernatorial candidate Scott Maddox."

How conveinent.

2005-06-28 05:57:19 PM
Actually the party of supposed fiscal responsibility is the Republican party, who is currently expanding the nation deficit to world record proportions. Get your slams right poster...

2005-06-28 06:02:31 PM
It's nice that the Republicans' reputation for fiscal responsibility has been so thoroughly destroyed that even its own trolls think that fiscal responsibility is the other party's gig.

2005-06-28 06:04:02 PM
Gubernatorial candidate Maddox? Well, if he didn't spend all his time with that website, maybe he'd keep better track of the books.

FLORIDA democratic party

florida is the operative word here - it's why they have their own tag

mrbah: Why did the admins approve this flamebait?

Because every once in a while they like to greenlight obvious flamebait just to watch the sparks fly. Whoever greenlit it is probably halfway in the tank already, and looking for cheap entertainment.

we'll just hijack social security to pay it off

Maybe John Edwards should have consulted for the Florida Democratic Party, and all of this unpleasantries would never have seen the light of day.

"Real leadership says, `You know, it is my fault. It happened on my watch,"' said Republican Party of Florida Executive Director Andy Palmer. "But to keep casting about for a scapegoat doesn't demonstrate real leadership."

You should listen to this guy. The GOP is eminently qualified to comment on scapegoating and shirking the responsibility that is supposed to be attendant to real leadership.

is it because they are Florida democrats?

Or is it because

they are Florida democrats?

Someone needs to check out what they put in the water in Florida.

Corporate officers are personally responsible for payroll taxes. That extra $100,000 the party bank account doesn't have can be taken out of the hide of whichever officer the IRS decides should have paid the bill.

That's wrong but it pales in comparison to what the Republicans did in Ohio.

Allegations arose before '04 election

The national media scrutinized every detail of the high-stakes political battle, as President Bush and Democratic challenger John Kerry crisscrossed Ohio, energizing their bases and reaching out to swing voters in the Buckeye state, which ultimately decided the race by fewer than 120,000 votes.

At the same time - beneath the surface and out of public view - allegations were swirling that Tom Noe had laundered contributions into President Bush's campaign, and facts were emerging that the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation had lost $215 million meant for injured workers in a Bermuda hedge-fund.

2005-06-28 11:52:10 PM

C'mon, they didn't fail to pay the social security taxes; they were hiding the money from Bush and his hairbrained scheme of investing that money in the stock market.

And besides, who are republicans to talk ? They were trying to keep alive Terry Schaivo, who couldn't even pay Social Security taxes to help keep it solvent !!! When it collapses, I will blame every braindead person the republicans help to keep alive, myself included !

2005-06-28 11:52:10 PM
Well, let's just say that last year, a certain account belong to a certain house, on that is not a Black House, quite the opposite, had its wireless bill sent to collections.

You obviously haven't been involved in politics. If she had aspirations for public office herself then, yes she did herself some damage. If however she was looking for a free ride from the political machine then she just got a golden parachute. She will be publicly fired and get 6 months severance pay then at the end of six months she will have her pick of staff jobs.

Sucker? Hardly. She just paid some serious dues and, unless she was too dumb to keep the real recipts hidden away somewhere, she just earned a lifetime pass.

I used to shoot news in Tallahassee, and I know (professionally, not biblically) most of the names named in this article.

None of the revelations therein really come as a surprise to me.

The Democratic Party is the party of fiscal responsibility in the same way that Islam is the religion of peace.

2005-06-28 11:54:28 PM
Scott Maddox was nothing but a good-ol' boy in training. His father runs the policemen's benevolence association in town and has been prepping him for crooked politics for much of his life. He (Scott) didn't do much as mayor of Tallahassee - it was obvious that he was just using it as a springboard to the governor's office. Good to see that he's now weeded out.

Well, why didn't they green light my flame bait talking about how Halliburton is feeding soldiers expired food and overcharging the government to do so?

It's Florida. Honestly, can anyone take seriously even one iota of the bullshiat that goes on in that cesspool of stupidity and incompetance?

As someone else pointed out, they have their own Fark tag for christ sake.

Secretary who "conveniently" confessed has parent with Alzheimer's, was distracted and did not file certain forms on time, resulting in fine. Unlike Repubs who employ illegals off the books, which is perfectly legit. I think she should be burned at the stake, and all Dems forced to watch.
