I'd like a crosswalk in my garage. Pesky kids...

In old country, road crosses YOU!

2005-06-24 02:17:07 AM
This just makes the pedestrian bonus points so much less in value.. damnit, it used to be somewhat difficult hitting a mother and three bowling pins.

Don't worry, soon enough their population will have thined out enough that their worth will shoot back up.

"Try getting past that if you're walking with a cane," Barry said.
The only people that have canes are pimps and half the time they don't even touch the ground. The pimps, not the canes. Maybe that should be vice-versa. Oh well.

yet another crosswalk that people will willfully ignore as they go jaywalking across the street from some other random point...

2005-06-24 02:35:15 AM
"The new crosswalk leads pedestrians from the parking lot across the street, into an area of sidewalk that is falling apart and located next to a storm water drain"

Are there really poeple out there that depend on crosswalks to guide them to their destination across the street? Are we lemmings? Can we not see the front door and walk toward it?

/just asking!

2005-06-24 02:52:40 AM
Pedestrians in crosswalks have the right of way. Jaywalkers do not.

Was going to say this link was already farked... but apparently, it's just that the site doesn't like Opera, and opera sure doesn't like it.

Firefox displayed it alright, but meh...

/article wasn't nearly funny enough, the workers just screwed up the placement of a crosswalk, it's not like they manufactured the idea themselves

2005-06-24 04:18:31 AM
that headline just put the greatest picture in my head.... "hey... um... ya wanna go paint some cross walks?" I wish I had come up with that while we were stealing roadsigns in highschool

2005-06-24 04:40:38 AM
Submitter loses points for irrelevant headline.

Submitter gets beaten for having a retarded article green-lit.

This is the most boring news story that has ever existed. Details at 11.

No crosswalk at all would obviously work better -- if everyone could just look around and use common sense.

Someone is bound to sue for this....

Cambridge is seriously considering painting a giant crosswalk over all of Harvard Square. There are two or three pedestrians who cross at crosswalks and the city wants to make sure they never have to take an extra step to reach a legal crossing point.

2005-06-24 09:29:39 AM
"Try getting past that if you're walking with a cane"

I guarentee I could walk past it, even if I was carrying a cane.

Puuukey - Indeed, after the imagines inspired by the headline, the article was a bit disappointing. Although now I have some great ideas about what to do on my lunch break....

/works near a senior's residence...

I remember reading somewhere about people making their own roadsigns and whatnot and installing them, or modifying existing roadsigns to screw with vehicle traffic...

I guess the trend is picking up pace

Great. Another excuse for Harvard kids to walk out in front of my car and then glare at me with distain.

I've always been tempted to see what chaos might result from putting cones and plastic orange barrels with flashing lights across a few busy intersections.

I wonder how many phone calls would have to bounce around, and who they would have to contact, before someone was willing to risk moving it all.

2005-06-24 10:41:31 AM
Are they going to widen the lanes too?

2005-06-24 10:50:18 AM
I can't believe they are going to make Oliver Street a two-way road.

2005-06-24 11:07:58 AM
Where in the article does it mention they were "blowing off steam"?

Meh.

2005-06-24 11:15:12 AM
Sounds like a city council member is on a power trip. They never mentioned using a traffic engineer to justify that the old crosswalk was unsafe. I imagine this was instigated by an anal retentitive micro-mananger type with too much time on his hands.

WTF? Municipalities are liable if some jerk does stop for the crosswalk?!?

Oh, did I heard poor kartofelkopf's feelings?

It's okay baby, we all know you're "special".

COOL!

I'm ordering a Fark St. sign

"Oh, did I hurt poor kartofelkopf's feelings?"

Alright, I'll concede that I messed that up. I'm special too.

Classic photo from many years ago... kinda suprised no one else put this up here.

you can make good money on sidewalks that are falling apart with big storm drains nearby.
this is not a question of a wrong crosswalk but a coverup for bad sidewalks.
