Free publicity anyone?

Seriously, it's just a game get over it. Just because I dress up like a plumber and jump on giant mushrooms doesn't change the fact.

"It's just a game," said Ledesma, 12. "It's not like I'm gonna do it in real life. I don't have the guts to do it."

It's not that throwing Molotov cocktails at cops is wrong, I just don't have the gut to do it.

Heh. Kids.

Somehow, despite having beaten every GTA since 3, I have YET to kill a hooker, jump a building in a car or purchase a massive automatic firearm.

I am such a slacker.

I mercilessly slaughtered hundreds of aliens after Space Invaders was released.
I developed an eating disorder after playing Pac Man.
I went to the zoo and murdered all of the gorillas after a few levels of Donkey Kong.
Tron made me chuck a frisbee at my brother's head. Some monsters told us that "after 20 years, it's about time to pull his feeding tube".
Frogger... oh man you don't want to know.

Won't somebody end this madness?

Yeah. And the last time I died falling out of a burning plane, my girlfriend didn't make sure I got to keep my weapons.

The way I read the headline...

The anal "videogames cause violence" circus has come to town

/I think violence causes video games, personally.

TwistedTenacity: I developed an eating disorder after playing Pac Man.

"If pac-man had affected us we would all be running around in dark rooms, munching pills, and listening to repetetive electronic music...."

You got that right. I make it a point to do a save, then run out, find the fastest car on the road, pick up a hooker and jump off the top of this parking garage next to a casino. As the car is aiming towards the ground to crash, I start shooting out the side right before I jump out mid-air, killing both me and the hooker.

I think an even better case could be made that the traditional print and TV media cause violence. After all, everyone from regular protestors to terrorists play to the camera, and often choose their targets because of the possible media exposure.

Perhaps those in the media can spend their time doing some in-depth soul searching rather than waste their time hysterically pointing their fingers at someone else.

/and the irony of their special reports on "computer addition" verges on the bizarre.

Chuck Schumer is an opportunistic cliche-spouting jack-off.

I sure am glad it's always "something's" fault and never the parents' job to raise their kids.

Would somebody please pin Chuck Schumer to his desk with an absurdly long katana? White hair and black trenchcoat are optional, of course.

2005-06-20 11:10:13 AM
If anyone needs me, I'll be blowing up cop cars and running over hookers.

Seriously though, maybe if retailers got a little morr responsible it'd be just a little easier on the parents. I think putting up ratings like they do for the movies would work just fine.

Parents are incredibly busy and it's hard for them to see what is okay for their kid and what isn't.

I know we have the ESRB raiting system, but I have YET to see a store enforce them. What was it the Captain of the Black Pearl said, "They're more like guidelines really?"

Point being, if some 13 year old kid comes in and wants to buy '25 to Life' then he should have a parent with him and that's that. The dude behind the counter isn't going to not make the sale, especially when they're company doesn't have an enforcement policy, and may just have something of the opposite. I know, I have a good friend who is a manager of an EB Games.

And those ESRBs don't affect the majority of us, because we can just go out and buy whatever we want, we're adults. I don't see any screams about movies these days with the good enforcement that most movie theatres are doing. When was the last time you heard someone come out and say, "Our little chidlren are being subjected to this kind of Horrible violence in Movie X!" ?

The game, he said, is likely to "produce cowards that will hide behind a gun."

Interesting quote.

Maybe not video games but stuff like House of Wax can't be real healthy for teen and pre-teen minds. Debased shiat from deranged debased people in some hole in California.

2005-06-20 01:48:23 PM
Video games cause violence? No.

Crappy, unoriginal video games cause busybody elected officials heads asplode? Yes.

2005-06-20 01:48:58 PM
And guns kill people.

/Nope

2005-06-20 01:49:25 PM
I'm confused? Shoot cops and throw molotov cocktails sounds like the basic day-to-day of GTA. Am I missing something?

2005-06-20 01:50:33 PM
But concerned mom Tori Cage, who was shopping with her 9-year-old son, Dquan, said the game should never hit store shelves.

"They should ban them totally," said Cage, 27, of Maywood, N.J.

Slut.

2005-06-20 01:51:29 PM

Do you really need a video game rating system?
You know, it is OK to judge a game by it's cover.

2005-06-20 01:51:39 PM
"It's the worst in a series of violent and gruesome games that lower the common denominator of decency,"

is he talking about video games or politics?

Yeah. Guns are small. It's hard to hide behind one unless you crouch down really low.

Isuldirs odds are you are right. 27 and w/ a 9 year old. Got knocked up 17. That's hot!

the more violent a game is the more fun it is. DONE

2005-06-20 01:53:06 PM
Well...I think this article has convinced me that I must play "25 to life." It sounds like a rather good video game.

I'll shoot that biatch.

When the ESRB finally adopts the MPAA method for rating their video games (G, PG, R, etc), maybe parents will finally stop buying "Kill Everyone and screw a sheep" for their kid.

2005-06-20 01:53:43 PM

An image from the new video game '25 to Life,' which allows players to shoot police and use bystanders as human shields.

Uh. SOLD!

Now what was this article about again?

I don't mind if the game teaches me to kill cops, but will I have to glue on a really bad looking mustache while I do it? Because that is obscene.

2005-06-20 01:54:04 PM
Well, like it or not, research shows that violent media DOES affect the brains of youth. It affects the brains of kids who are already violent (a past history of it) more than normal kids.

Educate thyself.

The moral of the story? If your kids are already violent, then the games will fark with their attentiveness and self-control.

2005-06-20 01:54:16 PM
I want a "blow away the corrupt, dishonest, scum of the earth politician" game.

What game is that. Is that virtual sheep herder?

/saw it on an episode of real sex, or something like that.

2005-06-20 01:55:11 PM
My opinion #1: Playing violent video games at a young age probably does affect the brain in a negative way. There is some research on this right now that makes some serious claims (20/20 last night I think it was)

My opinion #2: Video game makers are not responsible for any crime committed by a person who played their game. Ever. Period. Don't play them or don't let your kids play them. Exercise your judgement.

Remember when 'Tomb Raider' used to be fun? I miss that.

Never got good at jumping off of rooftops, though. But I did get pretty good at shooting cartoon tigers.

/Maybe the gummint doesn't want to leave the raising of children to the parents
//The second or third time you see parents bringing toddlers into slasher movies, you kind of wonder if the gummint doesn't have a point there
///Not that I condone either behavior

2005-06-20 01:55:47 PM
Personally, I blame Socrates for his negative influence on the young.

2005-06-20 01:55:58 PM
Anybody catch the name Dquan in the article?

Maybe he should work on his dance moves instead of playing video games..

2005-06-20 01:56:01 PM
Hey Senators! Up for re-election sometime in the next few years? Want to figure out a way to alienate a large number of potential future voters? That's right, take Ms. Cage's advice and "ban [video games] totally."

Remember, the gamer of today could be the voter of tomorrow.
