That's a damn shame.
2002-04-09 06:14:51 PM
Wish I was rich enough to care about this.
2002-04-09 06:14:52 PM
No, Mimic you're a tool.
2002-04-09 06:15:05 PM
"It's very easy to move into the top echelon of taxpayers," Hodge said.

2002-04-09 06:15:08 PM
Well this should be fun.
2002-04-09 06:16:12 PM
I feel for them.
2002-04-09 06:16:39 PM
Those rich people are the only true americans. The rest are just the cattle they use as tools of power!!!!!

2002-04-09 06:16:43 PM
Money sucks
2002-04-09 06:17:53 PM
Eat the rich.
2002-04-09 06:18:04 PM
I'm with them.. there should be a 'being an ugly bum' tax :)
2002-04-09 06:18:48 PM
That headline ... someone must be a little bitter.

For 1999, the most recent year for which complete Internal Revenue Service (news - web sites) statistics were available, 6.3 million taxpayers whose incomes were in the top 5 percent paid more than 55 percent of all income taxes.

Uh-huh. So much for the poor and middle-class getting shackled with all the taxes while the rich get away scot-free.
2002-04-09 06:20:24 PM
Once you get a billion dollars, your First Amendment rights should be removed from you.
2002-04-09 06:20:25 PM
Can they write off the gold crapper seats??
My heart bleeds, yeah.
2002-04-09 06:20:31 PM
come on people calm down; sure alot of people that suck get rich but not all rich people suck :\
2002-04-09 06:21:01 PM
If you were a smart billionare, you wouldn't claim residency and be scrood by all the taxes. America isn't the only country where ya can keep your cash in a bank...
2002-04-09 06:22:22 PM
that i agree with.. rich people that flaunt it are farking idiots
2002-04-09 06:22:53 PM
We should make it where rich people have to pay all their money to the government so we can be like communist China. That will rule.
If any of you weren't too lazy to read the article you'd realize that if you are married and both of you make at least 60k you pay most of the taxes in the US.
I think they shouldn't tax anyone, but add a Federal tax to everything you buy. Therefore people who buy a lot of stuff and are rich pay the most taxes. You wouldn't have to deal with all that tax bullshiat at the end of the year either.
I guess it wouldn't matter to anyone here though since 95% of you have never payed taxes because you are 12 years old.
2002-04-09 06:25:12 PM
Rich man makes $50 million this year. Poor man makes $10,000.

Even if they are taxed at the same rate (let's go easy - 10 percent), the rich guy pays more.

Rich man pays 5 million bucks. Poor man pays a thousand.

It would take 5000 poor men to equal the amount of money paid by one rich man.

Why is it shocking that the richest 5% of taxpayers pay 55% of taxes?

(disclaimer: of course, we don't have a 10% flat-rate tax system. Figures are for comparative uses only.)
2002-04-09 06:26:46 PM
Hmmm. I can't think of anything to say. Maybe something will come to me while I ride my elevator downstairs to see if I left my coffee sitting on the entertainment center.
2002-04-09 06:26:49 PM
If you and your spouse make above $120k a year then you shouldn't complain. That's pretty damn good.
2002-04-09 06:26:57 PM
Adjektiv, has a good point, you are all twelve.
2002-04-09 06:28:33 PM
I'll bet those complaining rich people can afford the basic necessities of life (food, shelter) a whole lot better than those at the bottom.
2002-04-09 06:28:42 PM
well; tax should be farking flat; only fair... and i thought you did pay taxes on everyhting you buy.. maybe just brazil then...
2002-04-09 06:29:27 PM
Hytes Xian:
That cracked me up!!
2002-04-09 06:29:32 PM
Yeah, just what this nation needs, a bunch of ultra-rich people whining about their taxes. Pay your fair share, or a portion of it if you insist. Tax evaders ought to hang from a noose.
2002-04-09 06:30:52 PM
everyone will complain becuase they are taxes!
I am waiting for someone to link to all the sites that say that we do not even have to pay tazes as it was not ratified by all the states when this was amended to the constitution. I know it was on here awhile back.
2002-04-09 06:31:08 PM
When the top 5% own 90% of everything, how can they expect not to pay more? I'm looking forward to all the people who are going to complain about the injustice of this when they'll never make enough to have this problem.
2002-04-09 06:31:13 PM
tax distribution isn't fair; that's what sucks... again; it should be just the same flat rate for everyone
2002-04-09 06:31:34 PM
Hmmm - I posted this link and didn't get a "already submitted" notice, but my headline was something like "Bottom 50% of taxpayers only pay 4% of taxes"
2002-04-09 06:32:13 PM
screw that.. $120k a year combined income isnt THAT much.. it depends where you live. Taxes suck. I'm in the friggin 30% tax bracket and Im getting screwed. WTF should I pay $15K in taxes?
2002-04-09 06:32:46 PM
Amendments don't have to be ratified by all 50 states to become part of the constitution. Income tax is constitutional.
2002-04-09 06:33:17 PM
I still like the idea that men should pay higher taxes than women since men commit more crimes (or at least get caught more often).
2002-04-09 06:33:25 PM
I'm sure this comment is going to be passed over, but most Americans who are worth a billion dollars got there by exploiting the poor and minorities, so in many ways, they should be giving back to them. Also, most of our tax dollars goes to the military whose primary function is to protect the interests of the rich. In theory, we should just tell OPEC to fark off and we should develop alternatives to oil. However, a lot of people make outragous amounts of money thanks to our country being oil dependent, so instead of ridding ourselves of oil dependency, we go to war to keep oil prices down. So the rich should be paying more than everyone else because most of the money is going towards their financial security.
2002-04-09 06:34:43 PM
It is past time for the FLAT TAX!
2002-04-09 06:34:47 PM
I vote flat tax even if I would end up paying a bit more, simply because I'm sick of seeing all of the loopholes for those supposedly downtrodden rich folk in our current system. The simpler something is, the less likely it is to be abused or toyed with by the bad bad peoples. They may be in the 38% bracket, but trust me, they don't actually pay 38% after all is said and done. Oh, and hang the tax evaders...that is all.
2002-04-09 06:35:22 PM
Did anyone really read the article?

There was no complaining.

The top 1% of income earners pay 33%+ of the total taxes ... the bottom HALF of the taxpayers pay 4% of the total taxes!

If there were a FLAT TAX, for example, there would be REAL "complaining" even though a flat tax would be the most equitable solution. Then again, we'd be taking Russia's lead ... they recently installed a 13% flat tax.
2002-04-09 06:35:58 PM
The people paying the least amount of income taxes are the ones using most of the services MY tax money provides.. welfare, jails, homeless, policing the welfare community, low income housing... just because I'm not a lazy A$$ and got a good job, why should my tax money support all these dumb fvcks?
2002-04-09 06:36:32 PM
"Also, most of our tax dollars goes to the military whose primary function is to protect the interests of the rich."

No, most of our tax dollars go towards social security. The military only only receives about %20 of tax income.
2002-04-09 06:37:14 PM
but most Americans who are worth a billion dollars got there by exploiting the poor and minorities, so in many ways, they should be giving back to them.

What? Where is your proof of this? I suppose the Ford and Rockefeller families got rich by exploiting people and NOT by selling cars and oil??
2002-04-09 06:37:20 PM
It is easy to say that one shouldn't complain if they make more than 120K per year (combined), but with a tax rate of 38% the government is taking a VERY sizable chunk of it. I would hesitate to call someone in this position 'rich'... especially if we're talking about a family with several dependant children.

The statement 'it's very easy to move into the upper echelon of taxpayers' means simply that a family in the upper middle class can easily find itself in the upper tax bracket and end up paying a hefty piece of this income to the government, which some may think is unfair.
2002-04-09 06:39:05 PM
but most Americans who are worth a billion dollars got there by exploiting the poor and minorities

If by exploiting you mean giving jobs, then yes, i would agree with you.
2002-04-09 06:39:41 PM
don't get me started on social security. I dont need the government to provide for my well being... where is the "Opt Out" policy for Social Security? I'd rather manage that pre-tax money myself.
2002-04-09 06:39:54 PM
You mean I pay more taxes than the guy I hired to lick my car clean? What an outrage! I'm selling my solid gold house and moving!
2002-04-09 06:41:27 PM
Isn't it sad that Russia is more logical about taxes now than we are. They have one flat rate.
2002-04-09 06:42:14 PM
no kidding.. getting to $120k combined is more than a piece of cake if you live in a major metro area.. If I hooked up with someone from work, we'd be at $150K no prob... jeebus
2002-04-09 06:42:48 PM
Joshd True that we pay for most of that stuff the poorest get free... Reminds me of the bumper sticker I saw recently "WORK HARDER! Millions on welfare depend on you!"
2002-04-09 06:42:51 PM
some Farkers need to wake up. If you and your spouse both make 60k, your are considered rich. And you better get some KY jelly
2002-04-09 06:43:26 PM
If you were given a social security number before you were 18 then you can opt out of it since a minor cannot legally enter a contract. But unfortunately no business would hire you because the IRS requires a social security number to report your income. It's a Catch-22. Social security is 'voluntary' but only if you have no need for a job.
2002-04-09 06:43:57 PM
Hell yeah Joshd! fark the poor! I'm serious too. The poor chose to be poor, period. You want to have money? Then get a high paying job. What's that you say? Itís a lot of hard work? Then go fark yourself.
2002-04-09 06:45:06 PM
SOS: lol.. nice one... my sentiments exactly!

Texaggie: so $120K is a lot? not really, especially when your morgatage for a $600K 1000sf below average house is due every month. Plus theres always the BMW payment. :)
