You mean celebrities do things just to get good press? I would've never guessed it.

That pic Tits posted of Tommy looks remarkably like Ben Stiller in Zoolander

Honestly, who really cares?

""If anything, they're the victims of movies," she said. "Pity them for having been reeled in by the seduction of Hollywood."

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

2005-06-15 07:28:14 PM
More importantly: Why do people even read this stuff. Don't you know, if you ignore them, they'll go away? Maybe even do something like, make good movies. Instead of horrible money grubbing soulless ventures. Bennifer was the worst example of that.

Can't believe I know the name 'Bennifer'. Shoot me now.

They are promoting Scientology for Christ's sake!

I think people would cheer for Satan if he made a crappy movie.

I got reeled in by the seduction of Pittsburgh one time.
Where's my pity?

As a journalism student, I weep when things like this are "reported" as "news."

It seems like this PR move has backfired on ole' TomKat.. They've gotten some pretty bad press lately; as they probably deserve..

what a revealing story... like any of us hadn't decided that tom and katie's relationship was BS to begin with.

why are celebrity "relationships" even publicized? i honestly don't give a shiat about what celebrities do. people are way too drawn to famous, make-up splattered celebrities. the majority of them don't even have enough talent to deserve any of our attention.

/brad pitt is awesome, by the way

I just want to appluad the Submitter for actually using the word "ulterior" in this instance instead of the more commonly misused word "alterior".

//though "alterior motives" is syntactically correct, it's not usually what people mean...

2005-06-15 07:37:20 PM
I submitted the "Katie Convert to Scientology" article with a way better headline....

"Katie Boards Ship." simple and to the point.

/tooting own horn

I actually read the part of the article just to figure out what the hell "TomKat" was.

docdude316: You mean celebrities do things just to get good press?

I don't think Tom Cruise understands "good press" if that's what he thinks he's getting.

/they say any press is good press
//but seriously, only now am i realizing that guy is batshiat crazy

Anyone stupid enough to convert to a religion because their favorite celebrity was promoting it deserves to be taken advantage of.

My much better headline was:

"Katie Holmes embraces Scientology, Valtrex"

2005-06-15 08:00:51 PM
TomKat?

well.. not as corny as "Brangelina"

First let me say: "well said".

Second, to answer your question...

Because our country runs on the illusionary notion that one day, we will all be rich and famous. So that's who we look up to. And that's who gets promoted. And that's what brings in the bucks. That's why most of America could care less who is President (lets not count Farkers for a sec), but if Paris Hilton breaks up with her manslut, that is news.

If there is one opinion that most people on here would agree with it is this: Our country, for the most part, revolves around stupidity.

GooGooBunnySnax: though "alterior motives" is syntactically correct, it's not usually what people mean...

The Larch: WTF? Am I missing a joke here?

The correct phrase is "ulterior motives", which means "Lying beyond what is evident, revealed, or avowed, especially being concealed intentionally so as to deceive: an ulterior motive.", aka "hidden purpose".

The word "alterior" is not actually a word, although it is in widespread (mis)use.

Wait... she's 26 now? Christ, she was 29 just a few weeks ago. Did superman fly around the sun backwards or something?

Clearing her toxicity has clearly taken years off her. By the time she enjoys the Purification Rundown she'll have regressed into the womb.

2005-06-15 08:14:06 PM
Why can't the public just accept two people forming a deep romantic bond over a religion/cult based on science fiction novels?

The story of Thomas Mapother:
He was almost a man of the Cloth-er.
He took the name Cruise,
And got decent reviews,
But his gayness was always a bother.

Ral:

Thanks. I don't have access to the internet or a dictionary, so I'm glad you helped me out there.

But... ummm... seriously... is "alterior" a fark joke, like the "moran" thing? Or does it come from somewhere else? Or do I just not read enough blogs by illiterate high school dropouts to realize that he was serious when he claimed that "alterior motives" is "syntactically correct?"

2005-06-15 08:26:16 PM
For some reason, this article made me think back to Top Gun, and all the homoerotic looks that Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise gave one another throughout the film.

Not that I enjoy picturing butt sex between two pompous asses like them, but stranger thoughts have been known to enter my airspace.

2005-06-15 08:32:20 PM
I move that anyone who, in the future, terms a cute name for a celebrity pairing, such as "Bennifer" or "TomKat", be summarily shot.

2005-06-15 08:34:12 PM
There's no such thing as bad press for celebrities, if you're in the news that means you're still news - in the case of "TomKat" (who the fark came up with that, and when is he scheduled to be executed) their respective movies are being overshadowed by the press Tom's cradle robbing is getting, which is a shame because Batman Begins was farking awesome.
