Hmm. Drove past that monstrosity on the way to the FARK party last Sat. Thought about submitting this story myself, but with an Obvious tag, being Clear Channel and all.

Kathy Castor accused music industry behemoth Clear Channel Entertainment of operating in "bad faith."

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you!

Clear Channel must be stopped.... no matter the cost.

These threads are always full of people claiming to hate Clear Channel, yet they keep growing. And seeing as how FARK represents a fairly good cross-section of society, some of you bozos are contributing to their crap. Thanks a million.

It's true what they say. Asses come in threes.

Huh. Three asinine articles in a row. Never seen that.

Could be a sign of the end of the world. Or a tool of it.

Because it seems the world already ended and we're now in hell.

THANK YOU !!! Although, in Boston, what Clear Channel has done regarding the theatre scene is a sin. The Wang Center (true name) is the biggest playhouse in Boston.

They cannot get the most popular play because Clear Channel owns most of the other playhouses in the area, and uses that as a bargaining chip to get the moneymaking plays.

Here's a thought for all of us - something I've done with my radio listening in the Baltimore area: find out what stations are ClearChannel stations, and don't listen to them...not that "not listening" is all that hard, considering the dreck that CC and Infinity program on their outlets. But tell your friends and family what you're doing, and why. Declining listenership will make ClearFinity stations sit up and take notice.

And while you're at it, find out what venues in your area are owned by CC, and don't go to shows there.

The power of the dollar is your best bet.

Meanwhile, back on this story, where were the state construction regulators monitoring the construction of the Center, checking to make sure things were done according to building code and to the plans? Clear Channel only got away with this because someone in the government let them. Wonder who that might be, and if they'll be held accountable?

Reminds me of a Baltimore area car dealer who will remain nameless but "stacks 'em deep and sells 'em cheap" who built a multi-million dollar house on the shore of the Chesapeake Bay in violation of several state and federal wetland protection ordinances without securing permission from the state because he knew they wouldn't let him build there. Despite his copious legal threats (not unusual for this guy), the state eventually made him tear the house down!

This is why I only listen to Premiere Radio Networks.

/What?

2005-06-11 07:15:28 PM
I don't listen to ANY radio, except the occasional NPR. Clear Channel is the worst thing to happen to broadcasting in the history of radio.

Someone tell me what I can do to help boycott/ruin Clear Channel and I will happily make an effort.

Thanks.

attention captain genius :

the premere radio networks is a syndicator, not a radio network. many of their shows (jim rome for example) are picked up by (gasp) clear channel stations

learn what you're talking about before you start dropping names. had you said cumulus or infinity, it would made sense.

The 21-member Fair Authority that runs the fairgrounds is appointed by ... Charles Bronson... "He will be working with Clear Channel in seeing that the matter ultimately is resolved."

Awright! Finally, someone who can deal with Clear Channel the way they deserve!

There was a guy on a Clear Channel talk station, here in Orlando, that I really enjoyed listening to. He was actually funny and witty. One night, he commented on how he was a fan of Howard Stern. The next day, he show was replaced by four hours of crappy music. It's been like that ever since.

This DJ now works at one of the only non-Clear Channel stations in town. He just plays music on the weekends, now. I miss listening to him every night.

Heh, heh. Good one. As a man who's had some experience with "real business" the past couple of years, this is exactly the sort of thing you're supposed to do. They've got some experienced operators at Clear Channel.

2005-06-11 08:06:09 PM
so rich people differ from the design and then what usually happens is local bylaws are modified to allow the 'non-conforming' building.

brillant..

Why does "real business" hate America?

Because "real business" is all about money, fark the law and fark the people.

Harry Costello, a spokesman for Clear Channel, said the company is trying to come up with a solution.

Here's a solution, rebuild it the way it was submitted in the preconstruction drawings. And, until they do, fine the shiat out of Clear Channel for every event they hold. I'm sure the inspectors can find some ordinance being broken. Worth a shot.

2005-06-11 08:29:42 PM
I don't understand who the people are complaining about noise. The dang thing sits on the side of a massive interstate (really an intrastate) next to a massive fairgrounds. The closest thing to it is probably the Seminole Indian Casino (with its infamous high cover charges). The whole hullabaloo seems to be the county simply trying to make some money through litigation.

Is that Drew Garabo (sp?) your talking about? I would occasionally listen to him... then he just disappeared. Now I hear him on 105.9 on the weekends, that is just sad. He was an interesting and eclectic host. I was wondering what happened.

2005-06-11 08:42:32 PM
Yeah. That's him. I've been listening to him off and on for about 10 years, now.

yeah, sorry, no html for me

Fark represents a good cross-section of the populace??? What planet do you live on? If Fark were a good cross section of the populace, Howard Dean would have rolled through the Presidential election and actually would have had some political capital to spend. Abe Vigoda would win the next Lifetime Achievement Award at the Oscars. And hard-core porn would be available 24-7 broadcast over the airwaves, most likely by FOX.

/I HATE Clear Channel
//They even managed to make XM Radio Bland

If this was your house and you submitted a plan for a 1 story but, built a 2 story they would make you tear it down.
They will slap them on the wrist with some small fine.
I say burn the mother down.

/Clear Channel is building an over sized church to worship their god GWB.

Clear Channel can rot it hell. The Telecommunications Act of 1996 has ruined commerical radio for years to come as they basically deregulated FM. Nice job FCC.

If you give a fark about some radio channel and can be made to have a negative reaction when you see the words "clear channel"...you are programmed.

Silly Democrats.

The major media companies up here are trying to Clear Channelize the FM and AM bands. I rather dislike it. Clear Channel's ugly tendrils exist here, but I don't know how far they'll penetrate.
