Wow, over 200 new components found with the new file. I strongly reccomend everyone updates.
2002-04-08 10:49:04 AM
Can we have a few more articles about this? Two isn't enough! It's so interesting!
2002-04-08 10:53:18 AM
I got 221 components found. Yeah, I advise you get this...
2002-04-08 10:53:44 AM
old news, homies. i did this crap 4 days ago.
2002-04-08 10:54:26 AM
We need to start a counter for how many articles are posted on Slashdot for every Linux kernel revision or Mozilla revision, and a counter for every Ad-Aware revision posted on Fark. I wonder who would win.
2002-04-08 10:55:25 AM
hows about a whopping 367 files WTF!!! goddamn software people are getting better. I thought I was careful.

276 Files, all DAP. Since when is DAP spyware? I've been using it for a long time already and this is the first time Adaware reacts to it.
2002-04-08 11:09:52 AM
SDKaneda: well thanks for letting us know about it four days ago ;)
2002-04-08 11:09:54 AM
Guess I should feel great that I only found 33.

2002-04-08 11:10:57 AM
I only found 23 but al BDE stuff.
2002-04-08 11:12:05 AM

Nice time machine. The lastest ref file is 4/7/2002. That's yesterday. Not 4 days ago.
2002-04-08 11:17:17 AM
My personal time machine is set to forward with occassional "flashbacks" every now and then.
2002-04-08 11:21:40 AM
DEFINITELY get this update... I couldn't believe that it found 125 new components...
2002-04-08 11:22:59 AM
Same here, 250+ DAP. I had a really old version on here, then reformatted and after I installed the new version, I noticed slower performance but never even considered DAP as the problem because good ol' Ad-Aware never picked up on it. Oh well, if anyone knows a good replacement, let us all know!
2002-04-08 11:29:33 AM
What's a dap file?
2002-04-08 11:29:41 AM
So what exactly makes BDE scumware?
Are you talking about the Borland Database Engine?
I don't see what's wrong with it...
2002-04-08 11:33:11 AM
Drew, it's time to have an intervention about one of your advertisers. The "Reduce Your Debt" ad throws up a popup that annoys the living shiat out of me (as do all popups) and I'm almost to the point where I'm going to start using webwasher again. Since I don't want to steal from the Fark beer fund by blocking ads, is there anything that can be done?
2002-04-08 11:35:29 AM
It should be turned off, I got confirmation this morning. Did you get hit again in the past hour?
2002-04-08 11:38:13 AM
Yup. But soon after my rant the same ad came up and didn't give me a popup. Perhaps it was a fluke...a freak occurance reserved just for me.
2002-04-08 11:38:14 AM
Yes, I got hit with a fu<king ad. You sold your soul to the devil by enabling that. I don't know if I can ever forgive you.
2002-04-08 11:38:42 AM
okay I forgive you
2002-04-08 11:39:53 AM
woot i only had 18.... i installed new kazaa yesterday.. i knew it would happen

BDE is scumware cclark because it sneaks on your system and it processes data about you and sends it back, it also uses your cpu time so when kazaa is running and your in a game or asleep your computer is running numbers for those morons kinda like seti does only they ask...
2002-04-08 11:41:32 AM
15 for me. How low can you go?
2002-04-08 11:42:01 AM
So what exactly makes BDE scumware?
Are you talking about the Borland Database Engine?
I don't see what's wrong with it...

BDE = "Brilliant Digital Entertainment",10738,2860134,00.html
2002-04-08 11:45:07 AM
I only had 3....but then I'd cleaned out all cookies etc. manually a couple of days ago anyway.
2002-04-08 11:45:20 AM

"BDE" is ok. The BDE that is the problem is "Brilliant Digital Entertainment" or "b3d". Keep the Borland BDE, but get rid of the other one.
2002-04-08 11:46:09 AM
It STILL didn't flag or remove the BDE projector. Still....over 100 files and registry entries flagged. looks like I've been watched for a while. Scary.
2002-04-08 11:47:14 AM

We're all sorry that we are not as up to date and hip as you. Some of us actually spent the last four days leading productive and intersting lives. Not all of us can spend every waking hour surfing the web for Adaware updates like your faggot ass.

Luckily someone was cool enough to post it on Fark. Of course, they could never be as cool as you since they took four days longer.
2002-04-08 11:48:28 AM
55 from me, and i ran it yesterday.. and yes.. it did take away the BDE thingy.
2002-04-08 11:51:52 AM
77! Holy shiat they were all BDE files too. I was wondering why the hell NHL was running so slow when i KaZaa was on.
2002-04-08 11:54:05 AM

I win!

2002-04-08 11:56:41 AM
Does removing BDE break Kazaa? I remember that when I ran Adaware and removed the Cydoor scumware, I had to find a fake DLL to fool Kazaa into thinking it was there. Otherwise, Kazaa wouldn't do squat.
2002-04-08 12:04:24 PM
A wopping 37. And this is the first time I run it. Perhaps my vigilance over what kind of crap gets on my computer is paying off. Strange though, I have Kazaa and no mention of BDE on there...
2002-04-08 12:06:23 PM
i just checked my work computer for the first time in a month... 52 running friggen processes?!?!?!?!? and i dont even have kazaa or morpheus on here and yet i had that BDE shiat.. WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
2002-04-08 12:06:50 PM
I've never used Adaware before, but I've just downloaded it and run it on my other pc.

Anyone have any advice on how I decide which components I should remove (for example, there's a 'software\microsoft\internet explorer\extensions....'registry key) or is a case of remove them all?
2002-04-08 12:08:09 PM
Blubble, could you point me in the direction of that DLL? I seem to not be able to run Kazaa now because I took Cydoor off.
2002-04-08 12:08:19 PM
Just 5. Obviously I'm not farking around as much as I should be here at work. I'd really like to know what the hell Alexa is though. I'm assuming something to do with yahoo messenger.
2002-04-08 12:08:33 PM
I removed BDE and it did nothing to kazaa. But that was with version 1.51 i don't know about the new version 1.6
2002-04-08 12:14:52 PM

I don't mean to be an as s, but i think SDKaneda is right. On the lavasoft website it says:

Ad-aware signature file (ref # 101-04-04-2002) 20 kb

I may be wrong but i think that is April 4, 2002.
2002-04-08 12:18:15 PM

I think it has something to do with microsoft explorer. Because when you click on RElated in the tool bar in your explorer i believe that it is a program done by Alexa.
2002-04-08 12:26:02 PM
got you beat with 165, and I run adaware at least twice a week.
2002-04-08 12:28:05 PM
make that 265.
2002-04-08 12:28:23 PM
it totally deleated download accelerator plus. that is what the DAP references are. damn, i kind of liked that program. anyone know of a newer, cleaner download accelerator\manager?
2002-04-08 12:30:47 PM

Yeah, but he's refering to the newest reference file, which I believe is 4/07, at least when I run Adaware, it says that. You're looking at the signature file.
2002-04-08 12:37:41 PM
This version was available for download by at least Saturday morning, because thats when I got it, from The official site just didn't have it yet.
2002-04-08 12:39:34 PM
2245 clicks and how many downloads is enough to make cnet crawl ... or is that just me? Damn DSL ...
2002-04-08 12:40:54 PM
Adaware killed my Kazaa

Bubble whats the Dll???
2002-04-08 12:47:54 PM

you can also del the cd_htm.dll

when you copyover the cd_clint.dll with the dummy file
2002-04-08 12:51:04 PM
