2002-04-08 07:29:28 AM
But it was a really good game.
2002-04-08 07:30:43 AM
600 hundred people? That's it?
2002-04-08 07:32:52 AM
Trowshep- what, 600 is a small gathering of like-minded individuals?lol

It seems Ole had at last scraped up enough money to fly back to Norway to visit his relatives. He was excited and happy and when he boarded the airplane he took the first seat he came to, in first class. Very shortly another passenger came up to him and said, "Sir, you'll have to move. That's my seat. I have the ticket for it."

"You don't understand," Ole answered. "I'm going back to Norway for the first time and I'm so excited and I need this front seat."

No amount of talking could get Ole to move, so the passenger summoned the stewardness who said, "Sir, that is this gentleman's seat and you'll have to move."

"You don't understand," Ole said again. "I'm going back to Norway for the first time and I need this seat so I can get off the airplane quickly to see my relatives."

The stewardess tried and tried, but couldn't get Ole to move. She finally called the captain, but he couldn't do any good either until he finally leaned down and whispered something in Ole's ear.

Ole then said, "Oh. All Right." And he quickly moved to his assigned seat in the rear of the airplane.

"What did you tell him?" the amazed stewardess and other passenger asked. "We couldn't budge him."

"Oh," the captain replied. "I just told him this seat didn't go to Norway."

Lia- Remember the MSU riot a few years back? 30,000 people or so?

I live in mid-Michigan.
2002-04-08 07:45:53 AM
Uh, Scraping what the hell was that?

Also, where in that article did it ever mention about some guy setting his shirt on fire?
2002-04-08 07:56:06 AM
Sos- there was a pic of a dude setting his shirt aflame. Trowshep- ah I forgot that. Fun times then ;).......and Scraping......wha? that's a modified blonde joke......

Slow new day for Fark...
2002-04-08 08:21:57 AM
Dinkytown? They have a section of Minneapolis called Dinkytown?
Now that is a city with a real self esteem problem.

2002-04-08 08:37:18 AM
Heh, most Ole and Lina jokes I know are dirty.
2002-04-08 08:37:48 AM
it wasn't a riot.

just a few drunk people who wouldn't get off the street.
2002-04-08 08:48:48 AM
I guess the Ole & Lina joke is a Minnesnowta thing. Though that just looks like a regular joke with the name Ole pasted on it.
2002-04-08 08:49:47 AM
We surrender!
2002-04-08 08:51:11 AM
I'll never understand these morons. Oh boy, we won, let's go out and trash our own town/city/neighborhood. Cops should simply club rioters into unconsciousness. Problem solved.
2002-04-08 08:53:26 AM
The Maine Black Bears did us and their late coach proud. They left everything on the ice. Excellent game, great teams, R.I.P. Shawn.
2002-04-08 08:55:07 AM
Well said Squinth! Well said indeed!
2002-04-08 08:56:42 AM
Don't worry fellow Farkers. The students that were "beaten" down by the police are recruiting lawyers.
I can see it now, a student with a recovering hangover and eyes reddened by pepper spray to a judge.

"Yeah your honor, I was just setting this dumpster on fire. Then this cop told me to stop, but I told him to fark off. He then beat me and peppered sprayed me. I think that is wrong and my lawyer says I need one million dollars."
2002-04-08 08:57:13 AM
I agree with Meshman... club 'em all... more drunk college chicks for the rest of us.
2002-04-08 08:57:48 AM
fark Minnesota.
2002-04-08 09:05:14 AM
Indeed Ranold. Go Bruins.
2002-04-08 09:06:39 AM
okay, seriously, i've so gotten over the whole rioting thing for hockey.

i went to UNH my freshman year and i've been a resident of orono, maine my whole life. my freshman year was the year maine and unh played in the finals. before unh even GOT to the final game, there was rioting in the streets...a bondfire in main st. and fireworks till four am. then i went home to watch the unh/maine game in orono, and when THEY won, they tore park benches from the ground and set fire to a G-D'd SNOWMOBILE!!!!

i was totally expecting chaos here this weekend...i don't think there was any...but really, minnesota...way to catch up. :)

it was a good game though...and i certainly know my bias has caused me to really be pissed off about some missed calls and bad calls...but over all, a very good game.

::off my soap box::
2002-04-08 09:07:28 AM
Squinth, nice call! It was well fought and well deserved by both teams.
2002-04-08 09:09:00 AM
by the way, Squinth...very very very very well said. :) they did everyone very proud, especially coach.
2002-04-08 09:13:50 AM
I never have been able to figure out why these people riot
when they WIN? They had a mini-riot at UNH when they won. I
immediately called my son to find out if he was involved.
Thankfully, he was not at school that night because I know how much he likes a good bonfire.

Must be some kind of mob-conciousness thing. Farking idiots.
2002-04-08 09:14:12 AM
Thanks very much. I guess it goes to show you that heart can help take you a bit further than just your skill alone. I felt so bad for the Maine players after that game. I know they feel like they didn't accomplish their goal, no pun intented, but I think we fans and even Mainers and college hockey fans in general can really appreciate what they did accomplish. I hope they know that this Mainer couldn't be prouder, and they have every reason to hold their heads high.
2002-04-08 09:19:55 AM
I was no more than a half mile from the incidents. I saw the helicoper hovering overhead. A friend and me drove by the frat houses at 1am, before the riots occured there.

We were on our way to a party at 9pm, and had to drive thru dinkytown, where tons upon tons of cheering idiots were slapping cars and such without any sort of consideration for the motorists. The cops didn't give a rat's ass either.
2002-04-08 09:23:35 AM
Would it be much of a stretch to say that most post-sporting event rioters are just thugs who are looking for a reason to act like assholes? That would be my guess, but I could be wrong.
2002-04-08 09:29:48 AM
You pretty much hit the nail on the head Bad_CRC, both about Ole and Lena (that's how I always spelled it) jokes just being cut and pasted other jokes, and it being a MN thing (though this year we haven't had a lot of snow, and it hasn't stuck around very well).

I'm surprised you knew about those Scraping-fetus-off-the-wheel. You have any relatives and friends in MN? Not too many people not from the MN/IA/WI/ND/SD area know about Ole and Lena. And even though they're about Norwegian people, most people tell that tell the jokes are of Norwegian decent (at least in Minnesota and maybe Iowa- I think in Wisconsin the German blood is a bit thicker)- that's the real joke, and that's why no one biatches about how it spreads prejudice or something. That, and everyone likes Scandinavians.

And with all due respect, fark Freddiemiles1. I realize he's from Michigan and he's jealous of our wangs or something, but he could at least put a little thought into mocking us. He could have at least cut and paste Ole and Lena into some racist old Pollack joke, and even Minnesotans could laugh at it.
2002-04-08 09:30:18 AM
Squinth- you're right. You'd think they were English soccer
hooligans or something.
2002-04-08 09:31:49 AM
Oh, and if you ever find yourself stuck in Dinkytown, watch out for its Mafia (it's a real shiathole part of town in the Twin Cities). Also, it's always a good idea to avoid an area known as "Dinkytown".
2002-04-08 09:38:15 AM
It's best to avoid the McD's in dinkytown. Overtaken by homeless people.
2002-04-08 09:45:16 AM
Painkiller why dont you become a "story chooser" and submit something?
2002-04-08 09:49:41 AM
I was actually at the game. The whole tournament was great. Even though my BC Eagles weren't there, it was fun. And when I flew back to Boston last night, I got to sit next to the co-founder of
2002-04-08 09:52:15 AM
It's not like they have anything better to do there.

As a Golden Gopher hockey season ticket holder, I feel nothing for the Black Bears.

Minnesota, hats off to thee,
To you colors, true we shall ever be,
Firm and strong united are we,

Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaa gophers!

I am still drunk, baby!

I smell a sore winner I think.......
2002-04-08 10:00:52 AM
Can someone clue me as to why sports make people act like total farkwads? Or are they farkwads anyway and only get together in big enough numbers to be noticed at sporting events?
2002-04-08 10:01:30 AM
What you smell is a euphoric winner.

It has been 22 years, and I loved every second of it. We have all Minnesota boys except one, and have had for 30 years.

It was about time we were able to beat the Canadian National team known as UMaine.

Hey squinth~

Remember when Walsh got suspended for having players who didn't go to the University?

Not a sore winner at all, just damn happy!
2002-04-08 10:02:27 AM
F*ck Minnesota and Crotchrocket Slim.

Hitman7s, I still can't believe how lame that cheer is.
2002-04-08 10:03:10 AM
Yeah, he's way too excited about this, especially for a Minnesotan. Go light up a bowl of some of our infamous Mexican ditchweed man!

Say Squinth, you check out that A href="">Burnsville MN Drugbust I submitted last week that didn't get onto regular Fark? Proof that while we might be boring up in here, at least we know how to unwind in this "frigid hellhole", as people from other climates affectionately refer to MN.

2002-04-08 10:08:19 AM
Damn tag didn't close. And I have yet to hear a reason why Michigan is so much better than Minnesota Freddiemiles1, but I'll take the relative highroad and not use the always intellectually challenging taunt "fark Michigan", because I realize he probably sits at the lower end of the genepool there. Were you stoned in your bio picts, or do you usually have that "duh duh" look on your face?
2002-04-08 10:09:38 AM
Ah, good to see the folks at my alma mater rioting in that "Minnesota nice" kinda way.

REAL Minnesota hockey

[image from too old to be available]
2002-04-08 10:10:54 AM
That still brings a tear to my eye Real remon. Damn corrupt team owners, damn Dallas with no naturally occuring ice...
2002-04-08 10:12:32 AM
I am happy for MN. It was a long wait, and the payoff was worth it. I don't care about coach Walsh's past screw ups. If you think he's the only coach to ever bend or break the rules, then you're living in a dream world. I only said what I said because sportsmanship is severely lacking in all areas of sports these days. It wouldn't kill ya to have a little respect.
2002-04-08 10:14:40 AM
Well, we had 9 freshmen this year so, I'm not sweating it.

Actually, I cheered for you guys when you played at Yost, so I don't hate you that much. I'm just pissed that we didn't play as well as we could have. I still say St. Cloud Sate was the best team in the tournament and probably would have kicked our ass anywhere else.
