So they didn't steal anything else, just his star wars toys? And he's crying about it? Deserves to have the poop beaten outta him if you ask me.

Blade Golem ,

50% is wanting the person caught, but he wants the stuff back MORE? Math, he knows not!

I know, I saw that but decided not to say anything about it.

Probably not a good Idea to say how much it could potentially be worth if the reward is decidedly lower.

Police: "It seems.. in your haste... YOU left the door unlocked."
Collector: "I, I couldn't have. It was locked! I felt it!....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooo!"

Boring Link + Star Wars = Green Light.

"...boy plays with toys....!" = no good.
"...boy plays with Star Wars toys...!" = Post of the year.

2005-06-07 11:12:21 PM
If he wants these back so much, why the fark is he advertising how much you could get for them at auction?!

I thought the whole idea was to convince the thief that it would be in their interest to return the stuff.

Reward for your stolen Star Wars toys: $1000
Actual value of said toys at auction: $3500

Having the $2500 discrepency blatently posted on the interweb and effectively losing any chance at getting the toys back while now being laughed at as uber-nerd of the day: Priceless.

2005-06-07 11:19:26 PM
He estimated the 92 pieces together could fetch $3,500 or more in an Internet auction.

vs

$1000

/these are not the toys your looking for...he can go about his business...move along.

Amusing? I hope submitter gets beat up and has his stamp collection stolen. I'm all for making fun of nerds, but how is that amusing?

Oh man. I just got back from a great night of NYC barhopping to read this.

For the past 5 hours, I've been drinking, dancing and socializing with cuties... and now I read about this guy who is 5 figures away from a perfect 97 figure collection (AND he stores all this crap in a downstairs basement).

I suddenly feel much better about myself, yet horrible for feeling that way because of this article.

/hopes he gets his stuff back, but knows he won't.

From the police blotter:
Burglaries

Between 4 p.m. Wednesday and 7:50 p.m. Friday, in the 4400 block of North Seventh Street; collectible Star Wars figures taken; loss: $2,625.

And though it has been said already, two words: Renter's Insurance. It's the cheapest piece of mind you can buy for all your things. They would have given him the current market value of the collectables and he could have opted to buy them back from ebay. If you don't have renter's insurance, seriously, get it. If you have car insurance you can get it for nearly free as an add on.

2005-06-08 12:42:54 AM
Kerslando is right. When I got my renters insurance w/ the same company as my car insurance it gave me a discount on the car insurance. So, in the end I was paying $10 less total every 3 months.

No way is that guy getting his stuff back! I'm having too much fun pretending Yoda gets drunk and hits on Padme.

"In you, are you sure, a little Jedi you have not?"
"Yes, Yoda"
"Like to, would you?"
*laughs that senile old man laugh*

I grew up in Lincoln. The victim doesn't live in a bad area, but then it's not exactly a good one, either.
If you look here you can see the problem with his location..very easy to get away via the Interstate. I fear that 92 figures, a Tauntaun, and the carry cases could be on the other side of Iowa by now.

/glad my SW toy collection is in storage somewhere else in Lincoln.
//not kidding, either.

Cue the Ackbar photo. This stuff is worth way more on ebay, and the geek should know better than offering a pitance of $1000. Bet his stuff is half-way to Europe by now.

/Don't have a clue why, but Euros bought all my SW toys..

2005-06-08 09:43:42 AM
Sygonus pointed out my first thought. I know the value of Star Wars toys, I have 85 or so of the original 97. Most people know those things are worth tons of cash. Offering a thousand dollars for things that are so obviously worth more that even the guy offering the money says that they would fetch more on eBay is stupid. He can take his $1000 to eBay and try to get his own toys back, but he wouldn't be able to get them. Especially since that Blue Snaggletooth the article mentions is worth almost half that.

/wishes he had a Blue Snaggletooth
//goes to eBay to find that guys collection

2005-06-08 09:53:35 AM
Sure, the collector is a star wars geek. But the theives are too. Or, do you think this is some star trek hate crime.

/Nah, I never watch the star trak show.

Upon return of toys, man offers an additional $10 for return of dignity.
