BAHAHAHAHAHA! I bet PETA harms animals to film their ads, too.

2005-06-06 03:24:32 PM
But, the difference between them is that when PeTA shows animal cruelty in their ads, its because PeTA wants it to stop.

2005-06-06 03:52:04 PM
Al-Jaz also did not post saddam underwear pics because it was a 'human rights' violation. But the beheadings where OK.

I saw Control Room this weekend.

Didja know that Iraq thought Al-Jazeera was the "American Mouthpiece"?

Didja know that many arabian kingdoms banned Al-Jazeera for being critical of thier governments?

When your a journalist, and everyone hates you, you are probably doing something right.

2005-06-06 03:58:50 PM

Rent it. Al Jazeera is the FoxNews of Qatar. Except not as jingoistic.

Man, that's pretty tough criticism.

2005-06-06 04:00:38 PM
The amount of misinformation about that channel is staggering. I'm not saying everything they say is gospel truth or that they are unbiased, but they are not what you think they are...

Jinxed on the jingoism. :D

LOLZZZ!!1.

Another "Al-Jazeera refusues to show _________, showing ______ still ok" headline.

Funnee!

Aw.. damn crappy GIS. This time from Rotten Tomatoes

I wasn't being sarcastic - I just thought that the mid east was a bit more accepting of Al Jaz. as I read it on a fairly regular basis, I never see pro-west anything. I've got to see that Control Room that you speak of, now.

2005-06-06 04:08:27 PM

Uhhyup. Of course, the film itself has a bit of a bias, but one of it's main points is that true objectivity is mostly a myth.

2005-06-06 04:12:24 PM
PETA didn't stand a chance. Muslims for the Beheading of Innocent People has a stranglehold over the Middle East.

2005-06-06 04:12:26 PM
Wow!

Didn't expect so many to be defending Al-Jazeera in here.

Perhaps, but there certainly are degrees of objectivity.

I've heard of Control Room, but like so many things I want to see, it falls through the cracks and I forget about it. But since you made an effort to comment on it, I'll make the effort to watch it. Thanks.

2005-06-06 04:20:18 PM
Wow!

Didn't expect Pinto to over-simplify everything and continue sticking to his uninformed guns!

So many? All I count is myself and EntropyBlues and we're not really defending Al-Jazeera so much as saying that Farkers like you and the submitter should see 'Control Room' because it might open your minds to the deeper issues at stake. Nah.. who am I kidding? Somebody locked up your mind and threw away the key. It'll take an acetylene blow torch to get any information that conflicts with your prejudices through your skull.

2005-06-06 04:26:20 PM
Ahhh, apparently they support a culture of life

2005-06-06 04:39:21 PM
Many things, but today, but I'm guessing your comment about defense shows that you are uninformed about the nature of Al Jazeera (although it probably not wise of me to glean that much from one sarcastic, trolling one-liner.). But you are certainly grossly uninformed as to the definition of the word 'defending' . Check out the movie we've been discussing.

Yeah, but you know if he saw it, he'd be just like John McCain on the Downing St docs, "I don't agree with it".

Not sticking up for anyone here, but all i read is that someone is suprised that there is defense of al jazeera.

I won't get in the middle of the hen fight, have at it ladies.

braptoid #498

When I was a little brap growing up I was obsessed with "Ripley's Believe it or Not" books. One of my favorites was the picture of the prophet Mohammed cutting of his own sleeve so as not to awake a sleeping mouse. No real point to my story, except I thought it was the neatest thing.

Of course the whole "smiting the necks of the unbelievers thing" kind of sucked the cool factor rigth out of it all but anyway before I know that I thought I wanted to live like him.

A valid point if his comment were isolated, but this is Pinto. He's made his views on Al Jazeera and liberals in general widely known, and that leaves little doubt as to the sarcasm of his comment.

He still thinks it's Jihad TV, just like he was told it was.

2005-06-06 05:05:11 PM
I saw a movie and you didn't, I know more.

No one has claimed anything like that. It's just a very different perspective than we are used to, and it's a always good to have multiple perspectives, wouldn't you agree?

Perhaps not, but I do dispute that he wasn't defending them:

Lovely assumption, good for you. However, there's this little thing called context...

When you assume you make an ass... yadda yadda.

Concerning US policy, which are you more likely to believe, FOX News or Al-Jazeera?

It gets exasperating trying to "debate" people who aren't even on the same page as you. If you consider that post a "defence" and not a statement of fact then there is nothing we can do to change that.

Jesus Christ, this is why you're not getting replies you know. You'd need an atomic laser to split a hair any finer.

He stated facts about Al Jazeera and then offered a personal commentary. There. Are you happy with the bandwith we have used on this utterly pointless exchange?

/if you're a journalist and everyone hates you, you ARE doing something right, imho

Let me pose this question to everyone:

In general, both or neither. Never just one of them.

On particular facts, it depends.

2005-06-06 05:23:18 PM
Concerning US policy, which are you more likely to believe, FOX News or Al-Jazeera?

Neither. They're two sides of the same coin. Somewhere in the middle, with a liberal heaping of Reuters, BBC, and the AP.

Good evasion. Okay it wasn't that good, but it was still an evasion.

Listen carefully, because this is the last reasonable statement you get from me today:

I pointed out that Al Jazeera is not well liked in Arab countries and Iraq, to counteract the sentiment of the headline, which is common among reactionary republicans: That Al Jazeera is Jihad TV.

It's a news station, trying it's best to bring free press to a area of the world that has never had that. It's biased for sure, but so is every source. It is not the mouth piece of "enemy", as many have called it.

That's the context. I don't need to defend Al Jazeera. I do feel the need to point out when someone is operating of bad information.

"Al-Jazeera is just a puppet mouthpiece for Osama Bin Laden." - Donald Rumsfeld

"We call on Al-Jazeera to stop thier support of the imperialist US agressors." - Baghdad Bob

I think he meant the general context of your other discussions on Fark.

Hey, right answer.

And you call that "defending al Jazeera"?
[The pseudo-conservative] sees his own country as being so weak that it is constantly about to fall victim to subversion; and yet he feels that it is so all-powerful that any failure it may experience in getting its way in the world... cannot possibly be due to its limitations but must be attributed to its having been betrayed.
