Poor guy just tryin to make a buck. Cus no one could afford to give a homeless guy $5. At they're wily.

2005-06-06 04:19:04 PM
five dollah eh?

2005-06-06 04:19:06 PM
I think we need an entrepreneur tag. I've seen homeless guys in Chicago successfully selling The Onion to tourists.

If you're a dumbass, you're going to get bilked.

2005-06-06 04:19:07 PM
The Farking bums used to do the same thing off of University Ave., in Gainesville, FL back when I was in school. Trying to charge for parking saying the owner of the lot left them in charge. Bastards.

2005-06-06 04:19:24 PM
That's one way to make a quick buck, but next time he should leave if someone questions his actions.

2005-06-06 04:19:30 PM
that happened all the time while I was in Brazil. People will charge others to park on city streets. Cops don't do anything about it. The good news is that the charge includes having the person watch their cars for them.

2005-06-06 04:19:31 PM
Just like every other city. So what?

2005-06-06 04:19:34 PM

Was this the guy, ma'am?

2005-06-06 04:21:03 PM
they do that at meters, free after 5, here in austin.
i don't mind giving homeless people money, but i hate the intimidation tactic
they are basically saying, if you don't give me some money i'm going to break your window
i prefer song and dance vagrants

2005-06-06 04:22:54 PM
Its already said, but he was trying to earn a buck. hell he could have fed himself for 2 weeks with 25$ alone.

I prefer dead ones.

Totally happened to me in Dallas. Dude even had tickets. As we were walking off from my five dollar investment the REAL parking attendant came across the lot 90 to nothing and flying body tackled the po' bum and got our money back.

Of course the real guy kept it....wait was he the real guy or did he whip up on the real parking attendant.....

true story however.....

Ahhh, Austin. Where we got shiatfaced on 4th, had to take a cab to Sugars, and we hit a bum on the way...hard. It was storming real bad, and this guy just ran out in front of the cab...and like a stuntman, just rolled up onto the hood-windshield and off onto the sidewalk. Did he sue? No. Did he file a complaint? No. Did he ask the scared-to-death Pakastani driver for $5? Yep.

Austin is the greatest.

2005-06-06 04:26:00 PM
exit the metro in DC at the Smithsonian station and see bums charging $1 for the free map to the Smithsonians.. or worse selling "Smithsonian Advanced Sale Tickets"!

2005-06-06 04:26:34 PM
Had this happen down in Philly by the Art Museum.

Bum walks up to me and my girl and says he's gonna fark with my car
if i don't give him money.

What are you supposed to do? Call a cop and tell him "That homeless guy
threatened my Wrangler?"

Grrrr....

2005-06-06 04:26:44 PM
well now he might get a roof over his head, and a drilling that some wall street big shots will pay hundreds of dollars for. good for him

2005-06-06 04:27:03 PM
I'll give him an "A" for effort. But I hear mosfunky. My step-sister went down to Adams Morgan one night, a bum runs into it waves my sister in the spot (like she needs directions to park a dayum car). When she gets out, he says "5 dollars for saving the spot" "I don't think so" "Farking biatch". End of the night comes, and farker keyed "FU" on her hood.

2005-06-06 04:27:20 PM
Mosfunky:
We used to ahve a few guys do this at Hammerjacks in Baltimore. The old, real Hammerjacks. He always got my 5 dollars, and he never broke my windshield. On top of it he was always polite, with the term being "to watch my car".

In Peru, I've seen a similar phenemon. When you park, the homeless guy asks if you want your windows or car [shiatty spanish, sorry] washed. He will always have a bucket and some windex, and when you come back, your car is clean, and your wiper blades are out to show that he's done. It's one of the coolest things in Lima. Yeah, they're homeless guys, but they have a work ethic, the do decent work, and nobody even hints that your car is going to get FUBARed. I hope they all make out like bandits. Viven los trabajadoros. [or something close]

2005-06-06 04:28:28 PM
now he gets three square meals a day, roof over his head and a bed to sleep in. i bet he will get off of this charge... at least he should with a warning.

2005-06-06 04:28:50 PM
Homeless man in Florida ehh? I wonder if he was retired.

2005-06-06 04:29:01 PM
The only way to combat homelessness is to establish work camps, highway infrastructure camps, or change the law so that churches must use a certain percent of their overall budget to accomodate them.

2005-06-06 04:30:20 PM
A buddy of mine's mom used to dress him and his little brother in cub scout uniforms and have them collect fees at strip mall parking lots near the stadium on game day...scumbags

2005-06-06 04:30:30 PM
Was there just a glitch in FARKtrix?

What's with the total fark links appearing and then disappearing? Is this some sort of tease?

/oh yeah, I'll shuck out 5 bucks for the Russel Crowe thread...
END THREADJACK

Hell, this has been happening in Detroit for years. The bums here are ruthless. They'll charge you $5 and point you to an illegal spot. Then as soon as you walk away, they break in, and the parking meter nazis swoop in to ticket you. Good times. >:(

2005-06-06 04:34:29 PM
I once killed a hobo with a hammer.

/secretssss

2005-06-06 04:37:09 PM
$2 more and he could have 'valet-ed' it for 'em.

2005-06-06 04:37:17 PM
this is no worse then the scumbag asshats that charge you $20 to park in a lot that normally costs $5 because there is a ball game on.

/works downtown
//thinks parking garage owners are evil

At a nightclub in an industrial area in Philadelphia called The Electric Factory, we parked on the street and were met by a bunch of young toughs after the show (Phil Lesh) who demanded $15.

They said they had watched our cars and intimated that if we didn't pay, their buddy up the block would send a rock through the window when we drove away.

Since it cost $5.00 to park in the lot (which we though we had avoided), I told the guys that I would pay them $5.00, that I was from Brooklyn and I knew what parking should cost, that $15.00 was a rip and that it would be a good idea to take the $5.00 and not throw anything at the car. I said it all in a friendly enough manner.

One of the guys walked around and checked the license plate and they took the $5.00 without further comment.

2005-06-06 04:41:58 PM
LEVEL 2: Take your hobophobic comments elsewhere!

2005-06-06 04:42:49 PM
some guys were doing this in a parking lot, when i was on a trip to Atlanta, but my pal was in the know, and told the guy we wouldnt pay him. this was in say 1991? amazingly, they didnt break into or otherwise vandalize the vehicle.

2005-06-06 04:43:26 PM
$20 for a spot ? And you'r complaining?

Try going to Kenmore Square in Boston ... we had gas station owners
charging $100 for a spot on opening day.

Fark em. You're dumb enough to drive your car, you pay what the market
will bear. It's called economics.

That being said, I have a parking pass at one of the local Universities and
laugh as I show my pass and jerka$$ in the Hummer behind me pays
$40 bucks.

One day in LA I parked at a meter near the fed. building. As I was getting out, a bum said "don't park there." I ignored him & started to walk away, and he said "check the sign". Turns out it was during a 2-hour exclusion. Then he asked for a few bucks, and I gladly gave him a fiver for saving me a $30 ticket.

2005-06-06 04:45:03 PM
bum on a corner here had a big jar with a sign: "bills only no coins"

2005-06-06 04:45:45 PM
I used to hire homeless guys to wake up my friends. I would give them $20 for it. I would drive them to my friends house and bring them up to their bedrooms. Then I would leave. I love NY.

2005-06-06 04:45:54 PM
Gotta admire the guy; he's got spunk.

2005-06-06 04:46:16 PM
I've learned to tell the homeless here in Austin to fark off when they try to get me to pay for free parking. I also tell them to fark off when they ask me to share the beer that I bought with my hard earned dollars. No sympathy for drunk/drugged homeless from me.

2005-06-06 04:47:01 PM
Haha...read a post on a bulletin board by an outraged Western female recently. Seems she went to a restaurant in China, went in, and tried to order with her family. Of course the staff in some random restaurant doesn't speak English. So she starts to get angry, when this man in a coat and tie walks up, begins speaking English, and takes their order. At the end of the meal, he comes by and collects the money for the bill. Then, the waitress comes by with the REAL bill. The Western lady was outraged that these sorts of things happen in China, and wanted the government to get on it. Riiiight.

2005-06-06 04:47:23 PM
I'll take a bum over a young business man any day. I mean, the bastards down by the ballpark in this fair city normally charge $5 for parking, but during playoff season, they hiked it up to $20. Those people have you by the balls and they know it.

I'll tell you where I'm parking the car next time... right up their asses.

2005-06-06 04:50:15 PM
Skookum

...change the law so that churches must use a certain percent of their overall budget to accomodate them.

The whole separation thing might get in the way here. Churches used to be able to do such things prior to the government deciding to get into the charity business.

Had the government stayed out of social engineering and the redistribution of wealth, church goers might not be so reluctent to toss good dollars after bad. Trouble is that todays homeless don't want to be a contributor, they just want. Can't help them.

2005-06-06 04:52:38 PM
No different than paying some local thug $10 to "watch your car for you". Better than most parking garages/attendants.

2005-06-06 04:54:54 PM
Ha Ha, that's great. Anybody that screws the tourists around here is alright in my book. The same people that feel scammed by some hobo, turned around and spent probably 10 bucks to get into run of the mill bars like AJs or McGuires and that's alright because it's "cover". At least the hobo gives you a good story to tell. Skink would be proud.

From Philly to Boston:

Fark em. You're dumb enough to drive your car, you pay what the market

Sadly the Rockies won't schedule their games around my work week and Denvers 'transit system' sucks worse than the parking prices.

btw...if you are stupid enough to pay $100 for a parking spot you deserve everything you get.

2005-06-06 04:58:46 PM
Philadelphia: I said no to bum asking for money in a free lot

came back to a flat tire and scratches on my car

my advise:
PAY THEM IF THEY ASK
$5 for his crack and he leaves my car alone
$200 if you don't pay and he messes up the car.

2005-06-06 04:59:12 PM
DeDigger

Couldn't agree more. $100 ::sigh::

And btw.... Rockies? EWWWWW!

2005-06-06 05:05:43 PM
End of the night comes, and farker keyed "FU" on her hood.

So, pay the bum some money, or get your car vandalized? Gee, sounds an awful lot like the definition of a protection racket to me.

2005-06-06 05:09:32 PM

Gotta love someone stuck in a bad situation that still has a sense of humor. If I met this man, I'd gladly give him $5.

yes the great churh promotor,,(bush I think it is),, could cut the deficit by 50 bucks by using "bum" manual labor , enforcing all parking violations so the meter maids(cops) can get out there and stop some jack'n'ape from robbing your house.

and theres nothing like sticking a pushy bum.>->->->->. not that I would do that.
