Butters is a good sub while Kinny gets a rest....look at my elitest tag......I am soooooo elite.
2002-04-05 07:59:53 PM
Up until a week or two ago, I hadn't watched an episode of South Park in a good year. And... it really didn't suck, honestly. I was surprised.

Still don't understand why Comedy Central cancelled Dr. Katz and Strangers With Candy in favor of shiat like Strip Mall and Beat The Geeks.
2002-04-05 08:00:13 PM
can you say "played out"
2002-04-05 08:01:08 PM
or Let's Bowl
2002-04-05 08:04:12 PM
"A lot of people aren't watching South Park anymore"? Wtf, the article says that its getting its best ratings ever...
2002-04-05 08:04:29 PM
Those bastards!
2002-04-05 08:05:36 PM
Beat the Geeks is an awesome show!

They had a playboy geek on there once. Now that was one sick, sick man!
2002-04-05 08:08:42 PM
Decent shows on CC: South Park, SNL reruns, The Daily Show and that Jay Sherman guy.
2002-04-05 08:09:16 PM
Strip Mall's gone I think.

Everyone knows it's butters!
2002-04-05 08:09:50 PM
When did SNL stop being funny? 1995 or so?
2002-04-05 08:09:59 PM
Beat the Geeks is like watching your brother-in-law. Just 'cos I married your wife's sister doesn't mean I want to be your friend.

South Park is still consistently funny. As long as there are idiots doing surprisingly stupid things, Fark and South Park will always have interesting fodder.

"Liar! I'm a Liar!"
2002-04-05 08:11:26 PM
He was basically made the show funny at all.
2002-04-05 08:12:53 PM
i noticed kenny was (permanently) dead right away, and i've complained bitterly about it every time i get a chance.

of course, the girl at the drive through window really doesn't care.....
2002-04-05 08:13:36 PM
I actually was wondering that yesterday when I watched SouthPark yesterday, "What happened to Kenny?" as I rarely watch it. But Butters more than replaces Kenny i'd say.
Comedy Central has to get it's act straight. I'm surprised they got rid of Chris Wylde show (i only watched cuz of his appearances) and put in AB FAB and all that crap. They have the rights to the original MST3Ks, they should air some of those.
2002-04-05 08:13:53 PM
I find Beat the Geeks amusing for the first 6 or 7 minutes. But the geeks make their unfunny and annoying puns/put-downs and I flip it.

"Oh crap... I've changed the channel, and I'm left with Hollywood Squares, Wheel of Fortune, or Access Hollywood." 7:30pm is a vast television wasteland.
2002-04-05 08:14:02 PM
Kenny would have done it.
2002-04-05 08:15:17 PM
Butters' is the shiznit.

"Hey little dude, you've got some crap right there..."
"Uh-uh, that's my face sir!"
2002-04-05 08:17:46 PM
Butters' rules. I think the Matt and Trey are gearing up for another SouthPark movie. One with Butters' would rock.
2002-04-05 08:18:14 PM
Courtney Cox-Zucker: The Simpsons is on at 7:30 where I live.
2002-04-05 08:18:38 PM
But why oh why must FOX play 3 episodes of friends a day?
2002-04-05 08:18:47 PM
7:30? Switch to FOX. You'll get King of the Hill.
2002-04-05 08:19:42 PM
I didn't watch South Park after the first season, but I have to say, I've seen some recent episodes and they are pretty damn funny. Butters is great.
2002-04-05 08:21:48 PM
I hate King of the Hill. It's funny but I get pissed off at Bobby screwing up and being such a dolt. I have little tolerance for anything. Damnit this typing is giving me a headache! I can't tolerate this anymore.
2002-04-05 08:23:46 PM
My parents were driving to Arizona last month and when they turned on their CB radio they discovered everyone sounded like Boomhauer from King of the Hill...
2002-04-05 08:24:49 PM
Yeah Kenny was cool but then he just sit there and talk stupid things you couldnt understand
I think Butters is cool now after seeing him in a few episodes

Also his dad is gay and his mom is crazy and tried to kill him. But im sure most of you already know that
2002-04-05 08:25:45 PM
Anybody else really miss UCB? Their writing was a little sporadic near the end, but I thought it had a few seasons left in it.
2002-04-05 08:25:52 PM
Boy, Matt Stone sure looks different with glasses and his 'fro cut:

2002-04-05 08:26:37 PM
Hahaha, I was laughing my ass off at that episode, Tmreserved. He was completely clueless about the whole thing until they admit it to the town.
"(something something)..My son caught me jacking off at a Men's Bath House."
"Who's jack? Err.. Hey What?!?!"
2002-04-05 08:27:32 PM
someone can't close their HTML tags. I'm so ashamed..
2002-04-05 08:28:18 PM
Fans are mixed about the decision, Comedy Central officials say.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but that sentence just struck me as odd. Like Comedy Central is some sort of government agency, or perhaps a regime. It's probably perfectly normal, but that was the first thing I thought of.

The last time I saw South Park was when I was visiting my friend in Houston last summer; they don't have South Park over here (big surprise). They do, however, have the Simpsons on occasionally. It's really funny listening to the Korean voice actors doing the different characters, but the humor loses something in the translation.

Oh, what about Kenny's parents? Now that Kenny is dead, are his parents out of the loop too?
2002-04-05 08:30:40 PM
"gearing up for another movie"...according to the last's a Terrence and Phillip movie.

From some strange reason T&P tends go grow on you too...
2002-04-05 08:32:32 PM
The episode where Kenny finally died was beautiful. I had seen it and didnt know it was the last of him, but they used his death to make a good point. It helped that it was also funny.
2002-04-05 08:34:27 PM
We have a total fark tag?!?! SWEEET!
2002-04-05 08:34:27 PM
Butter is also the nickname of Eric Stough, South Park's animation director.
2002-04-05 08:36:22 PM
Glick can be amusing, and TV Funhouse was possibly the funniest (and sickest) thing Comedy Central's had since SP debuted.

I wish they would purchase the rights to the old Ben Stiller Show. Hysterical.

Oh, and Prinzeugen: I'd say the serious decline began with the introduction of Schneider, Farley, and Spade in 1990, but you're about right with the 1995 date, when several of the morons from the current cast started (which make Hammond, Ferrell, Shannon, and Oteri the cast members who have been on the show in its entire history). I pronounced the show dead when Colin Quinn was put in charge of weekend update.
2002-04-05 08:37:16 PM
Man, Matt Stone looks likes a accoutnant or programer now
2002-04-05 08:38:56 PM
Thank God! They killed Kenny!
2002-04-05 08:39:05 PM
Uh, that should be "the cast members who have been on the show the longest in its entire history".
2002-04-05 08:39:30 PM
Gelatinous: What ever happened to TV Funhouse? I loved that show...
2002-04-05 08:39:58 PM
Man, Matt Stone looks like Terry Morrow now
2002-04-05 08:41:30 PM
Southpark sucks... Im sure thats gonna piss some of you off, but I dont care.

Its shockhumor, like Marilyn Manson is shock music. There is no real entertainment value. Its not even remotely funny.
2002-04-05 08:42:42 PM
Kenny died in the first episode. DUH!
2002-04-05 08:45:46 PM
NateDbo: Comedy Central says it's still on at 12:30 AM on Sundays (Saturday night, I guess?). I don't know -- I guess maybe it was just too shocking for most people. Also, maybe the "Porn for kids" clip bothered people enough that CC decided not to make any more. They actually had to change that part of the episode to "porn for everyone". I miss Rocky. And the mnemonics segments.
2002-04-05 08:49:04 PM
UCB rocked. Every sketch comedy show I've ever really liked (UCB, Mr. Show, The State, The Ben Stiller Show, Kids in the Hall) has had a short lifespan. (I suppose Kids in the Hall had a bit longer of a run, but it was still too brief.)

Alas, we're stuck with SNL and MadTV, both of which have their moments but which are largely formulaic. Would it hurt them to try something original rather than just feigning dangerous comedy with schtick like "The Penis Song"?
2002-04-05 08:50:02 PM
"Its shockhumor, like Marilyn Manson is shock music. There is no real entertainment value. Its not even remotely funny."

I didn't think the recent spoof of 80s teen comedies was particularly shocking. Funny, though.

And I think that bald, bespectacled guy in the picture above is the writer of the article, not Matt Stone. Or maybe people were saying that to be funny, and I'm just really slow.
2002-04-05 08:51:00 PM
Spectral: you are certainly entitled to your opinion. I personally think that Kevin Smith's humor is beyond stupid, but I guess I understand why some people think it's funny. Some people also laugh out loud at Wes Anderson's movies, which I find amusing, but not fall-on-the-floor funny. As you have noted, like music, it's incredibly subjective.
2002-04-05 08:55:40 PM
You can only hear a cartoon kid say 'fat fark', 'ass', 'poo' and 'no way' so many times before its not only unfunny, but predictable and pathetic.
2002-04-05 08:56:13 PM
If anyone wants to see boobies, let me know. I have an awesome link that was never posted...
2002-04-05 08:56:29 PM
Interesting that the article states the new episodes are getting some of the highest ratings ever. And yet, the tag says differently.

I know it's typical for people to read half a title (not to mention the article), rush into the topic and post something. But I think it'd be nice if at least the people who submit articles could read them first.
