Yes, it just confirms that the US is now in the kidnapping business.

You know that your State Department Annual Global Human Rights report that lists out human rights abuses in other countries is now used by other governments (China, Burma, Saudi Arabia) to wipe their arse with.

BTW, he is a terrorist bacause WE say he is, dammit.

No trial, just a military tribunal if you lucky, so that means you can kiss those impartial judges and lawyers anyways, and you betcha there is a shiatload of torture going around.

Capturing or killing people who's raison detre is to wage war against the West (primarily by murdering innocent men, women and children), and modernity in general, is a good thing.

We want ALL the terrorists. We even have the guy that blew up that Cuban jetliner, but of course he's really a freedom fighter, and besides Jeb needs the votes so we'll just let him loose in Miami. But all the other terrorists belong to us, so that we can fly them around to various torture centers. It's an important exercise in freedom.

Yeah. Sure.

See? This is why I have such a problem with people calling it the "liberal news media." CNN just printed what the government said, word for word, and didn't bother to really question anything about this guy. Is he #3 or is he the janitor? Which is it?

The so-called "liberal news media" isn't liberal at all, they're just taking press releases from the White House and DoHS, reporting them like good sheep, and not doing the job that oh-so-many conservatives accuse them of.

They couldn't get enough of Speedy Willy Clinton getting some fellatio. Oh no, better keep that on the front page for months. But heaven forbid That Dumbass Dubya sends kids to die and kill civilians in an illegal war even gets a mention in passing on Headline News.

Fark this noise. Call me when the media gets some backbone...

the war on terror was a justified response after 9/11. I would have liked to see it given the attention it deserved. it sucks that w has used it as a tool to promote his bs war in iraq.
a war that has drained our military, and our budget, not to mention our credibility throughout the world. all at a time when actual threats are being ignored. what has the cost (in money) of the iraq war reached now? its over 160 billion isn't it? I wonder what a leader would have done with that money. such a shame. they're laying cops and firemen off around here.

Not when the dems keep running men of the cloth for the presidential nomination, the RCC is a major driving force in the pro life/anti death penalty world, and campaigning in black churches is given a complete walk by the media. I'm not saying the religious left is crazier than the religious right by any means, just pointing out that it exists as a significant part of the left. Religion is demonized pretty strongly when it's on the right side of the aisle, but not when it crops up on the left side.

I will believe you when I hear the term "religious left" on CNN.

But if the "religious right" are people who are fundamentalist/evangelist and align themselves with the neoconservative movement, what *would* be the religious left? Is there an organized fundamentaist or evangelist movement that supports... uh, that supports... whatever the Democrats support? Evangelists fighting *for* abortion rights? Fundamentalist Christians fighting to take "In God We Trust" *off" our money? Liberal Democrats are noted for their plurality, secularism and intellectual elitism --hell, the radical left isn't really organized in the same way the radical right is -- so I don't know where a religious component would even come in.

2005-06-01 10:21:17 AM
ZAZ: That depends on how much central control there is over the small bands.

Technically more accurate would be the ability of the central leadership to orchistrate missions. Sometimes this is not the same thign as 'control' as disarming the groups in NI shows nicely.

Religion is demonized pretty strongly when it's on the right side of the aisle, but not when it crops up on the left side.

just my perseption here, but...
maybe its because when religion pops up on the left its more about helping the poor, or the sick. you know fairly benign.
when it pops up on the right, as we've seen recently, its about going after 'devils'. its about power. its about domination of their beliefs...its about scary.

is it just me? Jimmy Carter (personifies the religious left, to me) builds houses for poor families. jerry falwell (personifies the religious right, to me) is about hating 'fags'. just as an example of what I mean.

You're a simpleton.

Anyone who can suggest moral equivalence between the actions of Islamofascists and our reaction to it (however imperfect), is a simpleton, or worse. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

To be perfectly clear, I have no dispute with Islam or "the East." You could never meet a more pluralistically minded person than I. My dispute is with those who wish to kill me, my family, and my countrymen.

2005-06-01 10:26:36 AM
I'm kind of skeptical about this whole "number 3 is on the loose! We're after number 2 now." Al-Q seems far too decentralized to be organized under such a strict hierarchy. I would even doubt that Osama is "number 1" at this point.

The whole thing just seems set up for P.R. purposes. It's like the Mafia, catch one "number two man" and two sprout up in his place.

I know what you're trying to say here, but I gotta tell you man, based on your previous statements you have a strange view of how your own beliefs fit into the spectrum of pluralistically minded vs. non-pluralistically minded. Hell I think George Bush is more pluralistically minded than you.

Funny stuff though. Lightened up my day.

nah, I think a good leader might have invested that money in security measures at home, maybe some infrastructure maintenence. how about education. I don't know, I guess a war with a country that didn't attack us based on unproven idealistic goals isn't so bad.

besides with the oil revenues iraq is capable of this war will pay for itself. right?

a church congregation is obviously ripe for planting ideas, pastors or priests shouldn't be involved in politics.
