That's just weird to me that St. Louis is having an event like that. Lived there for 22 years and was often shocked at the conservatism of the town. People have signs on their yards during election time saying "God Votes Pro-Life".

I'm assuming that there aren't too many locals attending the "Beat Me in St. Louis" event.

New Jersey-based Cendant Corp. - HJ International Inc.'s parent and the world's largest lodging franchiser - does not interfere with guest-related decisions by individual hotels as long as the sites remain law-abiding, Cendant spokeswoman Liz Ryan Sax said.

The baptists are farksnazes. The chain has nothing to do with it. They can boycott that one franchise but I doubt it'll do much.

It is interesting that by boycotting the event, the SBC has called national attention to it. I bet this is on CNN/Fox/whoever by the weekend.

I'm not sure what else they could have done, though. If they need 4,000 rooms for their convention, they probably need that HOJO. I don't know how many hotel rooms are in St. Louis (haven't been there in ten years) or how many are full at any given time.

The problem is that many different "christian" organizations are boycotting all over that area of the country.. 4 BDSM related events were cancelled from hotels because of the Concerned Women for America. It's absolutely ridiculous, because now they have a boycott against all Ramada hotel chains, and Ramada is thinking about dropping all Alternative Sexuality events. The National Coalition for Sexual Freedom is trying to stop this. They have a petition on the books now, and I just forwarded this article to them. I think its pretty farkin stupid that someone can do this in a country where we're supposed to be free to do as we wish. I mean hell, we're not breaking any laws.

Um, dude, they "can do this" for the exact same reason that you can go in the first place. They're not hurting anyone; they're just biatching about kinky sex and refusing to go to some hotel becuase of it. What's so bad about that? It's not like they're trying to outlaw b&d or anything. (well, it probably is, actually, but that's not what *this* particular thing is intended to accomplish.). They have the same right to protest as you to do get tied up and spanked.

If HoJo's decides that the publicity or loss on money is too big a deal, have your meeting. If they decide that the financial impact of losing the baptists business is too critical, they'll cancel your meeting. This is called capitalism. Fairly basic concept. And I dont even agree with the baptists. But Id boot your arses out in a second if it meant losing 4000 room reservations.

HOWEVER: sometimes they go too far and act as judge and jury themselves, a position which is reserved for God and for God alone. It is up to Christians merely to warn of the consequences and not pronounce judgement, after all we're all equally worthless because none of us are perfect. I'll bet that some of these people will bash the S-M folks and will go home tonight and cheat on their taxes. Their message may be correct, but they're relaying it in the wrong manner, and will not win any friends, unfortunately. I'm a Christian and trust in God completely, but I don't claim to be better than anyone who isn't because it isn't through my own righteousness that I have been redeemed.

AAHHH, the classic "they must be fascist twits since they dont agree with me" argument. Meapet, dont confuse economics with politics. From what Ive read, the baptists have dont a darn thing to have your sex meeting prohibited. You are still free to have it wherever you want in a political/legal sense. Economically though, your small group may have a problem since the financial impact of pissing your group off is much less than the pissing the baptists off. There is no equality in economics. Only money.

Good, their boycott worked. And what will your response be? To label them backwards, judgemental, etc. (all of which is true)? Big deal. Instead you might try to find a small hotel/chuck e cheese restaurant that needs this publicity, get a better rate and still have your alternative sex party. ANd then talk to other alternative sexers and start a quiet nationwide support network for those hotels/chuck e cheeses that helped you in the difficult times.

Meapet, I understand that you're hacked not because they can try to do this, but because sometimes it works -- and I also know that it's not "just being tied up" or whatever; it's just a nice and humorous shorthand.

The point is though that you're complaining that "they can do this in this supposedly free country" - dude, the fact that this country is free is EXACTLY why baptists can protest kinky sex, and EXACTLY why you guys can have it in the first place.

You try to legally prevent baptists from doing this and
1)they'll do it anyway, quietly - how's the gov't going to *prove* that baptists didn't go to HoJo just because of kinky sex parties, and
2)Next thing you know, these parties won't even be legal in states like MO.
