What a bunch of farking morons! Only an asshat would complain about this. Damn, I hate people sometimes.

2005-05-24 02:39:34 PM
it makes sense to market to these kids. how many of the saw the first two prequals? they wannt their jar jar binks, yoda, and r2-d2 action figures. burger king would have to be pretty dumb to pass up on that offer. besides, would you rather have your 8 year old kid in a movie theatre sitting next to you so you can explain things to him/her or sitting on a couch playing some extra-violent x-box game??

/my two cents

I went and saw ROTS last Saturday at a 7pm showing. The theater was packed. In the row in front of me there was a family of 7 (2 parents, 5 kids) the youngest was ~4 and it went up for there. Then I noticed the amount of children under 13 yrs old, which turned out to be a vast majority of people in the theater. So what it comes down to is PARENTAL RESPONSIBILTY not some do-gooder who has nothing else better to do than harass others.

Oh and for the record, I'm with the activists. Marketing PG-13 movies to every kid buying a kids meal is unethical. I have news for you: Kids 13 and up don't eat farking kids meals.

Glad I don't have to worry about that anymore. I donated my brain to science years ago. Now it's referred to as a "Nerf football."

Lord Nimon,

You're wasting your time. This gang wants their kid learning social etiquette from Johnny Knoxville.

"The kids shouldn't see the movie, so allowing them to play with the toys will only frustrate them."

1. Kids are seeing R-rated movies. 13-year olds. 10 year olds. 8 year olds. Younger. I've seen them there -- with "guardian".

2. Frustrated kids isn't always a bad thing. In fact, I (and perhaps others) believe that catering the entire farking world to your *wonderful* little brats is what's making them whiny little balls of frustration to begin with. Go live on an island if you don't want evil society interfering with your precious little germ factory.

IN the defense of BK, what they have are STAR WARS toys, not Revenge of the Sith toys. They have Luke, Leia, Han Solo, Millenium Falcon and so on ALONG with Anakin, Padme and other ROTS faces.

HOWEVER, there are toys from this PG-13 movie being marketed to kids in the toy stores. Big deal. There is a large demographi of people buying toys, not just 10 and under. And PG 13 does mean Parental Guidance for children under 13 - as in think about it first before you take the under 13 set. I did. I took my 11 year old without concern, and left his very dissapointed 5 year old brother at home.

In the end, as a father of young children, a Star Wars fan, someone who buys toys for his kids and himself, and someone who likes Burger King, GET OVER IT. It's not just the under 10 set who likes and wants the toys, I do to.

I love the Cingular "Family Plan" poster with Anakin / Vader on it.

Leave me alone
I'm a family man
if you push me to hard I just might...

(apologies to Hall, Oates, etc.)

With billions of dollars in marketing, only about 90% is aimed at kids. Folks need to lighten up.

I really believe targeting children with movie tie-in meals and toys are terrible.

/can't stop playing with my Rambo doll and watching Rambo cartoon show.

2005-05-24 02:41:14 PM
I let my 4 and 6 year olds have the StarWars toys in the happy meal. I'm not going to take them to the movie, but I'd still buy the toys if they wanted them.

2005-05-24 02:41:34 PM
Feh...The Passion of the Christ was rated "R", but I still got one of these damned things with my McNuggets Meal....

2005-05-24 02:42:03 PM
ferretman,

wrong! I'm sick and farking tired of fighting with my kids over shiat they are encouraged to see/do that is not appropriate for their age. Like the other guy said, it frustrates them and when a kid is frustrated a parent pays.

2005-05-24 02:42:41 PM
Do you folks really believe that children are buying these toys?! I know a disturbingly large group of Adults that are desperate to catch 'em all *oops wrong show*

Stop telling me what is appropriate for my family! If you can't say "No" to a 4-9 year old you shouldn't be a parent.

2005-05-24 02:43:00 PM
'smatt

4 and 6 year old are still in your corner. The problem is with 8 and 10 year olds.

If you don't want Burger King to corrupt your kids mind, take them to Wendy's and get them a finger chili bowl.

2005-05-24 02:44:32 PM
I saw the movie. It was somewhat violent, nothing amazing. The only children I would actively attempt to keep away from Star Wars would be too young to even know what kind of action figures they're playing with. Up to a certain age, all toys are just about the same. If the kid is old enough to throw a fit because he understands he can play with a toy that corresponds with a movie that he can't see... seems like he's old enough to handle a bit of fantasy violence.

2005-05-24 02:44:40 PM
They need to ban Star Wars because its a trite, juvenile, hackneyed, un-original, boring, good versus evil epic that is badly pieced together with more gaping holes than Michal Jacksons child entorage.

That being said, I want a lightsaber and spaceships.

Oh, as for being on topic. What a genius way to drum up some more free press. Get a bunch of idiot activists doing what they do best. I swear you guys at the top always amaze me, but you're still getting kicked in the nuts like everyone else. Sorry. Company policy.

2005-05-24 02:44:46 PM
I agree with the activists. The fewer screaming brats in the theater, the happier I'll be.

2005-05-24 02:45:30 PM
i agree with this. i teach at a grade school and see so many kids that keep talking about this movie. it's sad though that they won't be able to see it for awhile unless it's done by their parents.

2005-05-24 02:45:44 PM
Giving up on shooting these activist types, leaning more toward grenades and flamethrowers, you know, because of the violence and adult content.

Stupid people making me more stupiderer again another time.

You know what I love about this? Liberals and Conservatives each assume that the people protesting are on "the other side."

(Quick google search reveals they're mostly religious leaders and ex-Reagan staffers and officials. Discuss.)

I bet your kid and Lord Nimon's kid get beat up at school alot. I bet your also the type of parents that use "positive reinforcement" and refuse to spank your kid on the ass when he/she deserves it.

Lighten up for farks sake. I grew up watching horror movies, violence, playing so called violent video games...didn't scar me for life, I'm not some psycho killer...just your average joe citizen...Wanna know why? Cause my Parents actually PARENTED and taught us right from wrong and didn't let these stupid farking idiotic groups sway them in any way.

But Rolfe said a survey his group conducted of 889 adults and says 83% felt the promotion was not appropriate for kids.

That's odd. The linked CNN poll on that page, which is 8000+ responders says only 24% found it inappropriate. The group's poll couldn't be biased, could it?

Ummm, sorry, but cnn.com is FAMOUS for its bullshiat biased polls. Keep in mind i have seen the same thing polled on cnn and foxnews with exactly opposite results. (fox keeps things alot more realistic, where as cnn just pulls stuff out of their asses)

Polls are a good way of convincing idiots that your lies are true... 96% of all farkers know that. Idiot.

Colgate,

If your a parent, show some backbone and show your children some displine. No child so get anything/everythin they want just because they piss and moan. That will raise individuals who have no respect for anything and will expect everything to be handed to them, in other words you'll end up raising some brats. IT IS OKAY TO SAY NO!

Actually, I'd rather see more violence regulated than sex. It seems that where violence is okay, sex is not, and this is WRONG.

On the other hand IF either violence or sex is REQUIRED to more accurately portray a story or an historical account, then of course, it must be used.

Sex and Violence is about being human, although I think there should be a little more sex and a little less violence in today's media.

Let them play with their toys. They're not going to be seeing the movie unless an adult drives them to the theater.

Cyber_Junk: "Saw the movie a couple of nights ago... I won't give away any spoilers though but you'd have to be a pitiful excuse for a parent if you let a kid under 10 see this flick."

Oh please. My folks let me watch whatever I wanted and I turned out fine. Some kids can take it, some can't. My favorite movie when I was 8 years old was "American Werewolf in London". I've never even been in a fight, let alone killed someone.

2005-05-24 02:55:45 PM
rodeofrog,
If you were a parent you would understand

Colgate

I am a parent of three small boys (8, 6, & 2) who love violence, but I do my job as a parent and try to discourage violent behavior. I get sad when my family and friends buy my children toy guns and swords and stuff, but I know that I have to teach my children how to draw lines.

Here is a phrase I've learned, "sorry, but we'll just have to be different." My boys know that they can't complain that all their friends get to _______, because I will simply explain to them that it's important to be different sometimes.

2005-05-24 02:55:51 PM
Damn, the more I RTFA the more it burns me up. These people are gonna ruin it for my little ones later in life. They'll eliminate all the cool video games cause of "violence".

/will spank my kid if they deserve it.
//fark positive reinforcement...those are the kids parents can't control.

There's plenty of child friendly tasks and if they don't do a good job you can always cook them.

"Parents know that 'Star Wars' has been a positive influence." -from TFA

They do? WTF?

2005-05-24 02:57:16 PM
The kids shouldn't see the movie, so allowing them to play with the toys will only frustrate them.

Says who? The MPAA? Saw Rambo at 5 without problems. I seem to have turned out to be a balanced and productive contribution to society.

Kids 13 and up don't eat farking kids meals.
25 and still eat kids' meals. They are, after all, reasonably sized portions for adults.

2005-05-24 02:57:24 PM
Being a responsible parent involves thinking and research. That's a job for me as a parent, not some stranger that thinks they know what's best for my family.

I left my 8 year old at home this weekend to view it first. After seeing it, I didn't see anything that he couldn't handle. We are going this weekend, just the guys, to see it.

On the other hand, we have the DVD's of LOTR. All PG-13, much limb hacking, gratuitous battle scenes and splattering of blood. Too intense for the kidlets. They don't get to see them, and they respect the boundaries that their parents set for them.

Does anyone here believe that PG-13 movies aren't suited for kids under 13? I saw Jurassic Park before I was 13 and The Matrix before I was 17. I must be maladjusted.
