Maybe I did/ Maybe there's just too many damn crossovers with odd as hell names and I mix and match them in my mind to make much more interesting storylines.

scary_tuna: 3. MJ's old fiancee (venom)
While Flash Thompson does not like Peter Parker... he's not Venom. Venom is Eddie Brock, a disgraced reporter, who blames Spiderman for screwing up his career... who finds the alien symbiote that Parker thought he had killed.

Initiate Nerd Rant:
MJ's fiancee was John Jameson. Flash Thompson was her boyfriend in the first movie. John Jameson does become ManWolf in the comics, so who knows what might happen for the movie. You're correct about Venom.

I haven't read the comics in 20 years, but from what I know, isn't Mysterio named "Beck"?
And isn't he an annoying whiney little punk who wants to prove he's better than Spiderman?

Not a great villian, in my book.

And will they do Carnage/Venom since they aren't original Spiderman Villians?
Meaning they are NEW creations, vs. classic villians.

Doubt they'll use Kingpin (thank YOU, Daredevil for killing THAT idea)

2005-05-05 02:21:45 PM
There are only TWO reasons to make 3 more spiderman movies and Kirsten Dunst has them both.

True babe.

Zorgan: MJ's fiancee in Spiderman 2 was neither Flash Thompson or Eddie Brock, it was Jameson's son, who eventually becomes a werewolf who lives on the moon. However, they can use his character as a means to bring the Venom symbiote to Earth without having to go into the whole Infinity Gauntlet deal.

Infinity Gauntlet was a cool series. It also was not the one that introduced the sybiote. You're thinking of Secret Wars.

i have to echo cunning_linguist_dc --- Spidey 2 was easily one of the stankiest pieces of shiat that Hollywood has layed in ages. i had to force myself to watch it in 4 sittings... horrendous.

SherKhan: What I consider good news on the villain front is found in X-Men 3. Juggernaut, baby.

Juggernaut, schmuggernaut. Spidey beat Juggernaut. For that matter, he also beat Thanos. Spidey is the ultimate underdog. Everyone powerful underestimates him. The downside being Spidey takes an ass-whooping in just about every big fight he gets into. I just hope in the next flick they bring out Lizard. I'd love to see a movie take on the 'Torment' mini-series Todd McFarlane did.

Spiderman 2099, for all it had going for it, was the suck-ass Spidey. No original stories there at all. I have all of them somewhere. The road warrior avenue the series went into before it got shiatcanned was just ridiculous.

The Venom symbiote was brought to Earth during the Secret War. You may be thinking of Doppleganger, who arrived after the Infinity War.

And you call yourself a geek.

You think the CGI in Spiderman 2 was bad? Wait until you see Galactus face off against the Silver Surfer (starring Colin Farrel as the Surfer and Louie Anderson OR Rosie O'Donnell as Galactus)

Spiderman movies are going to be as bad as Batman movies when this is over.

Based on look, the greatest casting choice they could ever make would be Ben Kingsley as The Vulture.

And if you're one of those comic geeks who didn't like either of the X-men movies because Wolverine's claws came out 4 inches from where you think they should have, then just give up. Quit. Don't ever go see another movie again.

Obviously the Green Goblin's son Harry is going to be the Hobgoblin in either Spidey3 or 4.

I'm most stoked to see Juggernaut on the big screen. An X-Men/Spiderman crossover would be sweet, too (maybe with the Hulk in there for yucks).

Speaking of the Hulk, are they going to make another Hulk movie?

Is anyone else saddened by he selection of Nicholas Cage as Ghost Rider? Wasn't Johhny Blaze/Danny Ketch supposed to be in his early 20's?

Are you retarded or just joking? 'Cause I really don't see any other options there.

Spidey is the ultimate underdog.

Perhaps my favorite Spidey smack-down of all time was in the Team Up series with Man-Thing (I think) when D'yspair (or whatever his name was) gets the snot beat out of him in the swamp. John Byrne era if I recall.

Well, in Cage's defense: he is occasionally "in" his early twenties wife.

40+ years of comic book storylines and you thing they are going to run out of material in 6 movies?

Villains not touched yet (just a few)
Hobgoblin
The Lizard (Doc Connors was in 2)
Rhino
Mysterio
Sandman
Venom
Carnage
Electro
Tombstone
The Vulture
The Spider Slayers
Kraven the Hunter

Just to name a few that could be used together or carry a whole movie.

There is alot of material to be mined here.

Being a retired comic book geek, what I would really like to see but I know will never happen, is the big 'ol Marvel Universe Crossover movie. Give me SECRET WARS!

2005-05-05 02:43:16 PM
Anyone remember the character "Fly Boy" from tha 1960's cartoon? He had the helicopter helmet that enabled him to fly like inspector gadget. Now that was a dumb ass villian.

Clavis: you are too kind!

2005-05-05 02:45:15 PM
I personally didn't like the second movie as much as the first. Mostly because at the end, I felt like I had this huge dent in my skull from being repeatedly bashed over the head with the blunt and obvious point. "Children need heroes." "I am a child and I need someone to look up to." "Blah, blah, blah." It got *frickin* annoying. Well, that and the idea that someone would set up an experimental fusion reaction in an old townhouse building in the middle of large city. My problem was that the dialogue was just so *obvious*. The only reason that chick who boinked Capt. Picard in the 9th star trek movie was in there was to show that you could be different but still love and to die. Saw that one coming from a mile off.

/end pointless rant
//I also did not like the elevated train scene because of the obvious Christ imagery at the end. Puh-lease. If you are going to try to go in for that deep shiat, at least do it well.
///Did love the direction and camera sequences. Could see the Evil Dead influences and some of it was just awesome.

Whoops, I forgot about that article when I submitted this ... I would've replaced "The Kangaroo" in my headline with "BIG WHEEL"!

Makam,

They were also a little heavy-handed in the first one with the whole "with great power comes great responsibility" theme.

I think they know their audience is, for the most part, a bunch of idiots. So they dumb it down and repeat it in hopes that some of the retards will understand.

spiderman 1 was watchable. I liked it, but not as much as number 2. 3 will have the sandman and maybe harry using the Oz serum and loading up on pumpkin bombs. 4 should introduce the black suit and eddie brock (no venom til 5), but for god's sake some decent writing could go a long way. Brock was pretty one-dimensional for a while, and that EAT YOUR BRAINS stuff is pretty useless unless he actually does it, or something equally horrific. Venom is the only spidey villain who doesn't register peter's spidey sense, and the ability to look like anything at any time could make for some kickass visuals.

Yet another recent Tobey pic. Dude ain't looking so sharp.

2005-05-05 02:51:18 PM
I think they should use that old story arc from the 70's where the Green Goblin kills Peter's girlfriend Gwen Stacy and....oh, right, never mind.

Only a matter of time till they get around to this:

2005-05-05 02:51:56 PM
I second the SECRET WARS!

As a trilogy it would be awesome!

Never happen, though. Hollywood won't make a movie to appeal to such a select audience.

Bummer

Gheyville.

As a hardcore Spider-Man fan, it hurts me to say this, but I think they should skip the whole outer-space-battle-thingy to explain how Spidey got his symbiote and just make the damn thing a product of OsCorp.
