Hrm, I've been considering covering a large patch of my backyard with moss for practicing martial arts tricks and flips, never really thought through the logistics of it...

That reminds me of the Moss Man "Masters of the Universe" action figure that I used to have back in the day.

Man, oh man, did Moss Man smell horrible. As long as moss graffiti doesn't smell anywhere near as bad as Moss Man, I'll be happy.

Is there any way to gauge the capacity of a server without actually farking it with a test? If so, Fark needs that.

there is a way, but usually it's called a DOS attack and will get you in trouble.

I can't rehost pictures, but the recipe listed is really simple - blend a can of beer with 'Several clumps garden moss' and 1/2 teaspoon of sugar 'until creamy', then paint someplace moss is likely to grow.

Oh, and at the risk of sounding repetitive, this sounds really cool!

I knew you could make moss by blending up grass. Never had a reason to though, this could make it worthwhile.

Thanks bill nye!

How wierd. I've been doing this using buttermilk instead of the beer and sugar. Makes a nice mossy milkshake solution. You need to protect the area from rain until the moss takes root, but still keep it moist.

makes me think of chia pets....

maybe you could use chia pet seeds....and past them to a visible wall in a public place....and then let them grow or something.

Or fark could simply start appending the Coral Cache url to farked servers once they go down.

http://www.storiesfromspace.co.uk.nyud.net:8090/data/html/mossgraffiti.html

Our group has been running a perl script for the past few months that preemptively caches all links on the front page of Fark(and a number of other sites)in Coral every 30 minutes. So far it seems to be working fine and links will usually be cached before the server goes down (although if someone wanted to donate a total fark account it could work better :> )

Wierd. I was just thinking last night of a way to freak someone out. (Probably not a friend. Well not after this anyway)

You need:
Something rotten or a load of maggots that will produce lots of flies.
Sugar.
Glue.

Paint your message on target's ceiling using clear sugar and glue, so it can't be seen. Site fly generator nearby. Flies go to sugar and stick to glue, eventually spelling out your message.

What? Nobody is sticking up for the poor, disaffected acryllic paint cans? After all, you can't grow moss in a subway station. ? ??

/I'm just sayin...

This works! We used to use this to "age" concrete garden statuary. Beer works best. Don't use your favorite drinks blender to make it though.

I HAVE to try this.

Possibilities are endless!

The rest of this site is pretty neat, too. Can't really tell what it's all about since it's so slow.... maybe later.

BTW do any of you remember Boss Moss?

From Google's Cache for the site:
= = = =
1 can of beer
1/2 teaspoon sugar
Several clumps garden moss

You will also need a plastic container (with lid),
a blender and a paintbrush

To begin the recipe, first of all gather together several clumps of moss (moss can usually be found in moist, shady places) and crumble them into a blender. Then add the beer and sugar and blend just long enough to create a smooth, creamy consistency. Now pour the mixture into a plastic container.

Find a suitable damp and shady wall on to which you can apply your moss milkshake. Paint your chosen design onto the wall (either free-hand or using a stencil). If possible try to return to the area over the following weeks to ensure that the mixture is kept moist. Soon the bits of blended moss should begin to re-couperate into a whole rooted plant maintaining your chosen design before eventually colonising the whole area.

Something tells me this won't work in Phoenix when its 110.

2005-05-04 09:25:45 PM
Because I'm a huge dork, I just tried this. I think I might have a bit too much dirt still in the mix, though. I painted some on a brick porch just to test it out (paint is a loose term, really just kind of scooped it). Best use of Natty Lite ever.

Why beer?

2005-05-04 11:37:44 PM
God damn! Thats a waste of perfectly good beer!

It would for sure be assumed that its the virgin mother...

Trdizzake: I have one..what would you use it for ?

Apparently, caching greenlit articles before they hit the main page. That would make the 30-minute cache more effective.
