"The second was about 18 years old, 5ft 10in tall and medium build. His hair was spiked up, possibly peroxide blonde. He had a square jaw, a possible hare lip, and was wearing a dark-coloured tracksuit"

"The bitcth bwoke my noseth!..."

The three attackers began to give chase, but gave up as Mrs Atkin approached her front door.

She led them all the way to her front door. Brilliant. If you're ever being chased by muggers, run toward the local police precinct, or even to any random house that looks occupied, don't lead them to your door. Especially if you've just broken one of their noses and they might be up for a little revenge later.

Maybe she was close to home and lives with a 300 pound bruiser with a bad attitude?

Almighty: don't lead them to your door.

But that's where my guns is.

My (female) cousin was walking out of a grocery store one day when a dude ran by and grabbed on to her purse. She held on tight and delayed him just long enough to get a good windup with the 12-pack she had in the other hand. Not only broke his nose, but layed him out.

The best part- by the time the guy could get up, a cop had arrived and gotten the story from several people. The guy was biatching about my cuz "assalting" him, so the cop asked if he thought charges should be filed, or if everybody should just walk away... Dude said charges should be filed, and before the words were out of his mouth, the cop was slapping the cuffs on him. D'oh!!!

/don't mess with a little red-headed chick.

Isnt it a law in England that if you defend yourself you are given life in prison or the death penalty and your estate is given to your attacker?

That kid's name (the bully on the Brady Bunch) was Buddy Hinton.

"Baby talk, baby talk, it's a wonder you can walk..."

It's VERY sad that I know this info...

To answer your question, no.

I'd go over the recent changes in law that basically allow you to beat the crap out of you assailant until such time as he, she or it runs away. But I'm pretty sure it's already been covered elsewhere in another thread.

How about if i shoot my attacker until they run away? is that legal?

Only if you believe the poisonous shiat printed by the Daily Mail. You have, and always have had, the absolute right to use reasonable force to protect your person and your property.

The irony is, there have been no law changes. Merely an education campaign to let people know what you can and cannot do, and to counter the deranged and dishonest pro-Tony Martin propaganda that has appeared in the right wing press.

Detroit criminals would have taken the fact that they were lead to her doorway as an invitation in. Thank God, for her sake, that these punks were rank amateurs.

sounds like she was already a bit on edge after a bad date.

"Blackstone noted that the "law of England has so particular and tender a regard for the immunity of a man's home, that it stiles it his castle, and will never suffer it to be violated with impunity" (William Blackstone, 4 Commentaries on the Laws of England 223 [1765- 1769])."

that at least covers self-defense in the home. first thing i found.

2005-05-03 10:16:13 AM
btw, if that wasn't clear, that's old english. i'm looking for an update in case of changes.

triple post: it's really hard to find anything about this not posted by rabid pro-gun sites, so accd'ing to them, you're just about right about the brits. one story about a guy shooting a burglar with an unregistered shotgun, and he got life for it.

"Vigilantism runs rampant..."

whoa...there's a story about vigilantism here, too? where?

2005-05-03 11:19:03 AM
portscanner : Sure. Here's the BBC news story when the clarifying information was issued, along with a statement that the present law will not be changed.

How dare she defend herself at the expense of a poor underprivileged social outcast?

The farmer is called tony martin, and he did not get life for it. He shot a burglar with a shotgun. That is not allowed here. He got the same sentence he would get if he shot someone outside of his home (not life), reduced slightly because of circumstance.

I know burglars are on the wrong side of the law, but in the UK we don't at that point say they're fair game and can be slaughtered, only that you can defend yourself.

2005-05-03 11:52:33 AM
The third attacker, who attempted to steal the handbag, was mixed race. He was 15 to 16 years old, 5ft 6in tall and chubby. He had rounded Afro-type hair

the "mixed-race" guy was the one who got attacked. I smell a lawsuit!
