Shhhh! No - you've got it all wrong. See, it's not really sex so, it's like, ok.
I mean, I'm not a slut.
Why oh why couldn't I have gone to high school when virginity pledges were popular?

2005-04-25 08:09:48 PM
I said I'd wait till mariage because everyone was doing it... then I went ahead and had sex because....well, everyone was doing it.

2005-04-25 08:24:11 PM
I never took any such pledge.
/there you go

2005-04-25 08:24:30 PM
My public virgnity pledge says no but my privates say YES!

2005-04-25 08:28:44 PM
This makes the assumption that they had a chance of getting any in the first place.

2005-04-25 09:37:21 PM
When I was in high school the virgins were the biggest sluts.

2005-04-25 10:10:22 PM
Needs an 'obvious' tag!

2005-04-25 10:11:15 PM
Where's the obvious tag on this one?

Oh. By the way...OLD/10

2005-04-25 10:11:50 PM
why are they kissing each other's naughty bits?

2005-04-25 10:13:16 PM
Thank God for the Patriot Act. It will crush these lies. Everyone knows that abstinence only education works and is the only think holding our fragile democracy together. I mean, if teens actually had comprehensive sex education the world would end and be overrun by minorities and liberals. Won't somebody please think of the children!!!!

2005-04-25 10:14:07 PM
Didn't they release this study a while back? And didn't this study actually say that teens who made pledges actually had sex MORE than those who didn't, because they thought stuff like oral / anal wasn't technically sex, and so they were still virgins?

Thanks from the department of inaccurate repetitiveness department... department...

Talking about Virginity:

Peruvian virgin turns down $1.5m

...She said she offered to sell her virginity to the highest bidder, advertising herself in newspapers, on television and the internet....

Graciela laughs as she recounts how a Canadian man offered her $1.5m (780,000) to have sex with her.

"He said he'd prefer I didn't do it, but if I was going to do it with anyone, it should be with someone who treated me right and I think he knew his bid wasn't going to be topped....

2005-04-25 10:14:20 PM
Yeah, in related news, guys that say "I would never bang that girl" while sober bang the crap out of her after the guys get totally hammered.

2005-04-25 10:14:25 PM
Interesting sidenote: People taking these type of pledges are also less likely to use any form of protection when they do have sex.

2005-04-25 10:14:26 PM
why are they kissing each other's naughty bits?

My guess is b/c it feels good.

2005-04-25 10:14:29 PM
just as likely to have sex as those who do not... have sex?

isn't that the point?

2005-04-25 10:14:30 PM
I unknowingly made a virginity pledge all throughout high school. I'm proud of myself for sticking to it.

2005-04-25 10:15:02 PM
?

2005-04-25 10:15:34 PM
Interesting... no wait, the other thing, tedious

I signed one of those pledges when I was a kid, they handed them out to everyone at my middle school and told the students to sign... It isn's something that kids are going out of their way to sign, they are presented with the pledge and given the choice, sign it and forget it or look like a slut and hurt your parents.

2005-04-25 10:15:51 PM
Hrmm, I'm still a virgin and I never needed to take a stupid pledge.

/Yes, I'm 30
//No, you can't have sex with me.

2005-04-25 10:16:40 PM
Haha.. I made a virginity pledge.... that lasted about 6 weeks.

2005-04-25 10:16:41 PM
Damn...beaten to the "Obvious" comment! Most of the "virgins" I've known give more head than a vegas hooker, and are likely to do anything you want aside from penile-vaginal penetration.

I have to say, though, that GUYS should take one of these right away. I'm not saying FOLLOW it, but TAKE it, for sweet Jebus' sake! Girls will flock to you like vultures on carrion if you are a "virgin by choice." You'll be swimming in it until the scandal breaks...and then...hey! you'll be a Bad Boy! So it aaaaalllll works out, yo!

/hipocrasy...its what's for dinner.

I'm too sexy for a pledge,
too sexy for a pledge,
So sexy I'm cutting edge !

I'm a Farker, you know what I mean,
So I get my cheap thrills from the boobie links ...

2005-04-25 10:18:42 PM
I've signed countless amounts of these things, having been in a private school for 11 years now. I havn't had sex/done drugs/had alcohol simply because I have more respect for myself than my peers apparently do.

/is 16
//is also a loser, if there is to be a connection
///there is, isn't there? :(

I went to a high school that taught abstinence-only sex ed and had a very large and active FCA chapter that got probably 90% of the kids to take a virginity pledge. Let me tell you, no one stuck to those pledges for long and as far as the abstinence only sex ed goes, well the message never got across and since the kids weren't informed about contraception, there must have been about 11 pregnant girls taking their diplomas at graduation.

Is this flamewar day? Is the person moderating a pyromaniac who has been ordered by a judge to stay away from matches?

No shiat...

and they're more likely to get STDs when they do have sex.

Ah the wonders of our abstinence only system.

You gotta be a sneaky deviant bastard for it to work, mate...you probably at least half believed in that "morality" stuff. No worries, though...been there too.

I'm glad those Abstinence Only Sex-Ed programs are working.

Remember the "separation of church and state" thing? I kinda liked it better when we still had that.

Like, this is news? I was fooling around with Baptist preachers' daughters all the time.

Guess it makes their parents feel better though. Or maybe look good in church.

"See, our daughter's not a slut like yours! She's taking the Pledge up there by the preacher!"

Hey, I'd rather have someone think of me as innocent (which they do because I am) than as a slut. So no, you're not a loser, Sanosuke.

the article
The study, conducted by the Prevention Research Center of the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation in Berkeley and released on Monday, found that teens who had made private virginity pledges or promises that they would wait to have sexual intercourse until they were older or married were less likely to begin having oral sex or intercourse.

But the adolescents who had made formal, public virginity pledges were just as likely to start engaging in sexual behaviors as those who did not take such a pledge.

I suspect that many of the kids who made the public pledges were subject to peer pressure. This likely means they probably are weak-willed, which means they are more likely to have sex than a non-pledge taker when a persuasive guy -- or girl -- comes along.

Throw in those kids with the ones who really mean it and it all averages out.

Whereas the ones who make a pledge in private do so solely between their God and themselves.

I wish my middle school would have handed out one of those... I would have had it out (legally) with them.

Man, that would have been so cool...

For me, I mean. It probably would have been equivalent to signing the pledge, on a social level.

Sounds cool that you're still a virgin. If you're committed to staying so until marriage, I admire your determination.

But, this question begs to be asked. Do you participate in ANY sexual activities to include masturbation?

I've known several virgins who did participate in restricted sexual activites. I just never understood WHY they did most everything else EXCEPT sexual intercourse. But, then I don't understand why priests & nuns lock themselves up from any sex either.

Just seems like you're missing out on the fun, especially upon entering your third decade on Earth.

My own story.

I lost my virginity at age 20, more or less because I was so shocked that a girl would actually. like. me. of. all. people. and because this girl seemed to delight in taking guys' cherries (of the seven partner she'd had before me, she said five were virgins) which meant that she tried harder (heh) than a girl who was a virgin or would've expected me to make that move.

Also, my dating experience was pretty thin ... as in non-existent. I was the classic "nerd who got somewhat involved in school spirit activities and tried to be nice to the non-nerds." My problem was turning an ordinary conversation into a, "say would you like to go out?" conversation and then into a, "say would you like to go make the beast with two backs (or make out extensively)?"

At my school there was one girl who had taken at least three virginities that I knew of among my friends, and I didn't want *that*. (But I guess it seems I did get that, albeit four years later.)

In fact when one friend told me he had lost his virginity to her, my response was, "OK, but did you have to lose it to *her*?"

In hindsight, I wish I'd have waited. Really.

I mean, as it stands now, I can't say with pride, "I farked DOZENS of girls damnit!" or say (also with pride), "I waited until marriage!" Instead, I'm just kind of lukewarm.

Counter-Strike and Diablo 2 were my virginity pledge in high school.

Ok...you just had to come and say this in a convo about teen sex...I'm sure you just clicked on this one thread (in its infancy) by accident. I'm thinking you're either:

A> actually kinky as a weasel in heat, but coy about it.

or

B> sticking your holiness in all our heathen faces.

Either way...

Good point. Also important to remember that there are many many stupid and farked up people out there (always have been), who have kids, and then screw them up too. Some manifest their stupidity and mental problems by raising their arms in the air, pretending to speak in tongues, and burning their children when they touch their privates. Others manifest by putting their kid on the pill and letting their boy/girlfirnd(s) spend the night to screw, at ages I don't want to even think about. Lot's of parents abuse their kids, turn a blind eye to abuse, or are just plain incompetent in protecting their kids from predators. These victims in turn grow up, have probems, have kids, and pass on these problems. No one should be surprised that pledges don't do sh*it. Unless there is sincerety behind the people encouraging the pledge to create an environment where the pledge can be realistically adhered to, then it won't work. Life is screwed up, always has been, condoms, pledges, pills, politicians, money, etc can't fix the problem.

/in a glass is half-empty kind of mood
