I think that there police protection is unjustified. Let the Darwinism begin.

2005-04-22 08:05:30 AM
Sgaard said he fears for his life and understands that he has angered the wrong people. He received police protection after questioning by Swedish police

Ok not that I agree with what he said but, him understanding that he angered the wrong people sounds like it's his fault. If you anger me I'm not going to declare war on you, if you anger me enough I might crack you in the jaw, but wanting to kill someone over words? Seems to me that the only sane person in this story is the guy quoted in the last paragraph.

I can't see this ending well.

A Christian preacher calling Mohammed a pedophile, eh? Reminds me of when L. Ron Hubbard said the same about Jesus, let me dig up a link..

"for those of you whose Christian toes I may have stepped on, let me take the opportunity to disabuse you of some lovely myths. For instance, the historic Jesus was not nearly the sainted figure he has been made out to be. In addition to being a lover of young boys and men, he was given to uncontrollable bursts of temper and hatred that belied the general message of love, understanding and other typical Marcab PR. You have only to look at the history his teachings have inspired to see where it all inevitably leads. It is historic fact and yet man still clings to the ideal, so deep and insidious is the biological implanting."

It's at the bottom of that article, or look for an online copy of the scientology "operating thetan" documents, it's toward the end of those. I'm sure if you look hard enough, someone's said the same about Buddha or Joseph Smith or maybe even Moses; it's a common enough claim made about founders of any given religion, by people advocating an opposing religion.

So Sweden's got Fred Phelps and Ansar al-Islam pissed. Now they just need the Likud to declare war on beautiful blonde women and we'll have extremists from all three major Western religions finally agreeing on something.

You're just mad an Italian wasn't named Pope, so you could call Catholicism the religion of pizza.

2005-04-22 09:26:01 AM
But Mohammed was a pedophile. He liked 'em young. He was also a thief and a gangster. He and his followers used to hijack travellers outside of Medina; after he robbed them he would frequently kill the men and "marry" the young, ripe females.

It's not a coincidence that a religion founded by a criminal spawns people who like to strap explosives to kids.

Jesus was all about "love thy neighbor" etc. The Bible is pretty unambiguous about that; over time when asshats have committed atrocities in Jesus' name it's pretty obvious to everyone that the asshat is acting outside the scope of Christ's teaching. But Mohammad was all about jihad. He gave guidance on why it was okay to kill non-believers, he codified when you could and couldn't murder people, etc. So when asshats murder in the name of Allah, you don't have to look very far to see that the asshats are acting within the scope of the religion.

Conclusion? Muslims suck. Ann Coulter was right; we should invade thier countries, kill the ones who want to fight, and forcibly convert the rest.

So sorry to upset your sensiblities, but when religious leaders call for the death of an author over a book he wrote, execute thousands for blasphemy or other crimes against allah, and convince children as young as 12 that their path to paradise is blowing themselves up on the 5:15 to Haifa, I am comfortable with my call...

you didn't upset me -- i just ask you don't forget that
there are just as many christian extremists, and that you
don't have to be calling for someone's death to be a
problem.

when it comes down to it, islam is probably just as much
a religion of peace as christianity is. people are a
little to quick about tossing out that "islam is a religion
of peace" catch-phrase whenever something "bad" happens
, and often do so without really thinking about things.

Make that everyone except all the countries under Catholic rule, and except the Puritans, and except the Mormons, and except fundamentalists who freely mix old testament wrath in with the "love thy neighbor" new testament doctrine when they find it convenient to their prejudices, and...

ah, never mind. One example bit about the Mormons though, from this page:

One wonders how a religion claiming authority from Jesus Christ Himself could be so far outside the mainstream of Christianity. Based on Joseph Smiths first revelation, that "all religions are in error," Mormons believe that the great "falling away" foretold in Scripture (2 Thess. 2:3) occurred very soon after the deaths of the Twelve apostles, and apart from a branch in the New World, which remained faithful for another 200 years, the Church quite literally disappeared until its revival by Joseph Smith. This view of Church history flatly contradicts Christs promise: I will build My Church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it (Matt. 16:18), and allows Mormons to deny the validity of the Ecumenical Councils where such fundamental Christian doctrines as the nature of the Trinity were elucidated. As for the Bible, Mormons believe it only "as far as it is translated correctly."

That said, anyone who wants to kill another person because of what they said needs to seriously lighten the f*ck up.

As you instinctively ignored the rest and picked the only Christian group I listed who doesn't (yet) have a history of bombing abortion clinics, or holding trials to execute people who disagree with them, or some other form of murder in the name of Jesus, I expect you'll grasp for some way to split hairs regardless of how strong the evidence is, rather than addressing the main point.

Christ's good intentions to the contrary, Christianity is historically a religion of violent sects that willfully ignore Christ's words when convenient, and that have often held majority rule in the nations they inhabit. If it's currently limited to a minority of extremists in this country, we're lucky.

Anyone who suggests it's out of the ordinary for Christians to do any range of things unrelated to Christ's actual teachings, including but not limited to large-scale violence, and still claim to be acting in the name of Christ, is deluded, ignorant, or intentionally lying for whatever reason, e.g., a troll screwing around...

It's in the interest of religious political leaders to enforce adherence to church dogma (threat of death for voicing disagreement is pretty motivating), rather than permit it to be questioned. A nation where individuals aren't held in line to a narrow set of beliefs, has more trouble mobilizing its resources for a lot of causes, especially belligerent ones. Didn't you ever play Civilization? ;)

It's a good thing Christianity has never had a period in its history where atrocities were regularly committed in the name of God. Nope, never.

Ahh yes...an tell me again what has happend to the last few Christian asshats that commit these atrocities in His name? Prison? Execution? Or calls for understanding of why they commit these crimes and some type of attempt to rationalize their actions because of their plight?

"i am really farking tired of people making comments like

So are religious fundies but they never shut up. Instead they force their morality on everyone else and use death as an 'encouragement'. Care to offer a logical explanation of why 200,000+ muslims flipped out, looting and pillaging over an ad for the Miss Universe contest? Real peaceful there too.

If truely peaceful muslims want this image dropped, then they should clean their own houses. THEY should identify and deal with their bomb toting ultra-fundies but they don't care. That's plainly obvious by this reaction to someone else's opinion.

Religion of peace? The only noteable demonstrations by the Muslim world are that of violence. If they're trying to convince the world that they are a peace based faith they've got a lot of work ahead of them.
