Who's going to tell Howard he needs to go home?

2005-04-18 09:17:49 PM
In a way, Howard never really left......

Hank Williams busy trying to find words that rhyme with ESPN

I'm guessing Bocephus will try to work in "Jean Chretien."

Let's just hope that NBC has enough sense to make Bob Costas their p-b-p guy for Sunday nights.

2005-04-19 02:20:43 AM
I work Monday nights, so I usually catch the game on radio anyway.

Hopefully this means that I no longer have to listen to that awful awful Theismann on Sunday nights.

/crosses fingers

Hopefully Madden doesn't transfer over, I can't stand listening to him. Not that ESPN's current sunday night crew is that much better.

Why would Hank Williams be trying to find words? He's dead. Hank Williams Jr. on the other hand...still alive.

2005-04-19 02:53:33 AM
If it wasn't for Lost, this news would be enough reason to delete ABC from my channel memory

(In a year)

I can't wait to see the garbage they put on ABC monday nights.

The Dallas Cowgirls will let me see em
right here on ESPN

Hank Williams new intro:

"I had my first threesome with a goat and a hen
now it's time to try the pig(fore)skin on ESPN"

John Madden is a tool.

Hopefully this means that I no longer have to listen to that awful awful Theismann on Sunday nights.

Cheers to that!

That's Hank Williams Jr, not to be confused with the original, nor with Hank Williams III

/I'm ready for some football

"I'm not ready for football any more!"

/It's called LASERBLAST, and Leonard Maltin gives it two and a half stars!

2005-04-19 03:18:20 AM
This means that the NFL officially no longer cares about its low income fans.

/Sad, but I'm hooked and I have cable, so I'll still watch.

Have you ever noticed ESPN Sunday night football is on cable free stations? DUH samething will apply to Monday night football it will be sold to local stations market to market And Theismann & Madden will stay since ESPN is owned by ABC

2005-04-19 03:30:41 AM
I like the flexible scheduling. Putting a big game on Sunday night late is the season sounds great.

2005-04-19 03:31:41 AM
I, for one, welcome the NFL's move to basic cable. As a regular broadcast TV watcher, the possibility of more ABC shows involving Eva Longoria both excites and intrigues me.

/Haven't watched Desperate Housewives.
//Lusts after Eva all the same.

2005-04-19 03:45:39 AM
How can you be a footall fan and not love John Madden? He's a legend dammit.

/despise Theismann
//wish Phil Simms would disappear from public already
///needs Joe "the Red Sox are finished" Buck to break his jaw on a daily basis.

i really worry about how all my rowdy friends are going to handle this news...

wescoe

Did I miss something, or are you just in the wrong thread?

2005-04-19 04:33:15 AM
John Madden is a legend, sure. But an annoying fatass. He should stfu and let his 'legend' be admired from afar.

So the show is switching channels? Are people going to panic because they don't know how to work the remote or punch the little buttons on their TVs?

2005-04-19 04:40:13 AM
It's not just Theisman (really rhymes with Heesman; he changed it at ND to campaign for the trophy). Mike Patrick and Paul Maguire are equally idiotic. I've never heard any other announcing crew be so insanely, consistently wrong all the time. Half the time I'll wonder aloud "what game are they even watching?" They argue calls that didn't happen and misinterpret basic rules every game. They second-guess coaching strategies after they worked, like "despite scoring the touchdown, they really should have punted there." It's baffling. And with that stupid 5 second delay, you can't turn down the TV and listen to the radio. And I swear Patrick's preparation for a game is to learn the name of one star player on each team, and no one else, and then repeat it endlessly. I honestly hoped he wouldn't be able to come back after his heart surgery last year and that ESPN would stick with Summerall. Alas, he pulled through.

If I never have to hear them call a game again after this season, NBC's $1.2 billion was well spent.

2005-04-19 05:12:05 AM
Does this mean we don't have to listen to that blowhard John Madden anymore? He's so busy being "the legend of John Madden" that he forgets to talk about the freaking game. And God forbid if he doesn't approve of the coaching strategy used, he'll rip it to shreds and then not say a thing after it works.

It sucks, Monday Night Football is an American tradition. Not having it on free TV is just wrong. I'm not one of those "I don't own a television" idiots, but heck, I just don't watch a lot of TV because there's nothing on except a few shows. I visit my mother's house, and she has DirecTV with every channel, and 50 channels of movies, and still there's not a damn thing on.

2005-04-19 05:25:47 AM
I heard that Madden and Michaels will move to Sunday night and the Sunday night crew from ESPN will be moving to Monday night.

That means we still may have to put up with that moron Theismann. That man has the IQ of a goat gonad.

2005-04-19 05:39:40 AM
"What they need right now is for some guys to make some plays." Joe Theisman will say that 250x this year.

2005-04-19 06:01:36 AM
Hey, Mayor McJesus, you wanna talk about a guy who's often right with the names, who occasionally adds something relevant to the commentary, who once in a while doesn't make an arse out of himself... well I'll tell yah, Theisman is it.

2005-04-19 06:53:57 AM

Save the Turducken!!!!

if they just got rid of that loudmouth redneck, they might be good again.

Linda Cohn for anchor !

Summer Sanders as sideline reporter !

2005-04-19 07:21:35 AM
Can we send Hank Willimas to Iraq now? There has to be someone there that hasn't heard "Are you ready for some football" so many times they could just puke.

Nothing like keeping a show fresh. Just add rednecks.

2005-04-19 07:49:32 AM
Dear ESPN,

If you continue to use Hank Williams Jr. for your openings, I will personally travel to Bristol and poop in your yard. More than once. And I'll eat McDonalds breakfast burritos before hand.

Signed,
Me

I want them to go back to the original theme song. Way better than the "Are you ready for some football?" thing.

thepostaftermeisgay

Couldn't agree more about Simms. It's as if he doesn't know football at all.

2005-04-19 08:19:45 AM
That sound you hear is your cable bill going up again.

I haven't watched more than the first half of MNF in years - way too late for the East Coast workin man.

2005-04-19 08:26:22 AM
Whoo!!!! Hank III!!!!

2005-04-19 08:28:40 AM
This means that the NFL officially no longer cares about its low income fans.

I couldn't agree more. I am surprised that there aren't more posts complaining about this. I guess it isn't such a big deal to all the farkers as they probably all have cable anyway.

/will never bring myself to pay to watch TV

2005-04-19 08:31:37 AM

I haven't watched more than the first half of MNF in years - way too late for the East Coast workin man.

Same here, start at 9:00PM - 9:30PM end at 1:00AM. Now I've got to get up at 5:something? That use to be the problem. At least the NFL fixed it for me with this latest move.

2005-04-19 08:43:50 AM
If they put Theismann and those other two idiots in the MNF booth (or any booth with a mic for that matter), I swear to god I'll blow-up ESPN headquarters. God those morons are annoying.

MNF on ESPN. Good God! Now the world really has gone insane!!

2005-04-19 08:45:43 AM
The NFL is still considering an eight game late-season package of Thursday and Saturday night games on cable and satellite. Tagliabue has said the NFL's own new network could show some or all of those games.

This part of it I find a bit disturbing. While ESPN is pretty standard fare on most basic cable TV packages, the NFL Network is not, and I'm not paying for a crapload of channels I'll never watch just to get a game part of the year.

As to Theisman...I'm a huge Redskins fan in addition to being a Bengals fan (my ultimate Super Bowl would be Redskins vs. Bengals, 3 OTs, Bengals win 38-35, but I digress....), so it's easier for me to take him obviously than it is for some of the rest of you. It's not that he's that bad, it's just that at times he says things trying to be insightful when in reality they aren't.

I for one hope the ESPN Sunday Night crew moves to Mondays and continues on as before. While John Madden to me is ok, I don't know that it isn't time for him to retire, though the idea of pairing up Madden with Mike Patrick and Paul Maguire is intriguing. Maybe you put Theisman on the sidelines at that point. Perhaps once he's done some time in weather talking to players and coaches again rather than getting quality time with paper stats and a hair stylist, his "insights" will be more insightful.

As for Al Michaels, Madden's MNF teammate, he's pretty much an ABC man and he won't be hurting for work, trust me.

This means that the NFL officially no longer cares about its low income fans.

You do realize that, even though the previously-free Monday night game will now be on cable, the previously-on-cable Sunday night game will be free (on NBC). You lose nothing.
