Ann Coulter is great. She's right nearly all the time - it's just that most people don't want to hear offensive things like what she says, even when they are true.

Such as, if I said that the Catholic Church is out to make money for itself, cares nothing for the parishioners, and controls them through guilt and fear from birth, and is one of the most corrupt institutions in the world, people would shut off their ears and call me nasty names.

However, it doesn't make what I said any less true.

You know, all the hatefulness towards her I see on FARK doesn't strike me as being so much better than her hatefulness towards Democrats and liberals.

It all looks to be the same level of behavior to me.

As a lot of posts throughout this thread reflect a similar opinion, I'd like to present a rebuttal to all of them in the form of a metaphorical story:

Once upon a time there was a man named Bob. Bob was reasonably happy, lived an average life. His full name might very well have been "Bob American."

But there was one thing Bob didn't like. Every day, when he left for work, there was a line of people who hurled invective and hate at him while he got in his car, and a similar crowd harrassed him on his way from his car to his office.

Each day, Bob braved these people who hated him. He couldn't quite figure out why they took so much time and energy out of their days to bother him. Maybe he was gay, and wanted to be able to marry his lover. Or maybe he wasn't gay, and was married with children; and he wanted to guarantee their health care. Maybe he was an environmentalist, or a member of a trade union, or maybe he just thought taxes weren't all that bad in return for government-funded services.

Whatever the reason, Bob put up with this hateful invective every day, and he tried to grin and bear it, for the most part. It was a small part of his day, after all.

But one day, Bob woke up not feeling well. His head hurt, his throat was sore, and he had to be at work anyway. So he got up, went out the door, and headed to his car, as always. And as always, a continuous stream of "liar-traitor-commie-pinko-liberal-america-hater-tree-hugger-gay-lover-anti-bu siness-baby-killer" assaulted him. And something in him snapped. Just downright snapped. A wild, uncontrollable beast broke free inside, and he turned to face the crowd, which cowered back from his wrath.

"Jerks," he called them. They gasped. They moaned. They collapsed on one another in horror. How could he? they asked themselves. What had they done to deserve this? How hateful! How vicious! How mean!

When they finally recovered themselves, the crowd howled after Bob's departing car, because they'd realized he was even worse than they thought he was; he was hateful, "intolerant," and (worst of all) had something of a back-bone after all. And they resolved to redouble their efforts next time, to bring the horrible monster down.

Coulter just spoke at my school, about 3 hours ago. I'll spare my opinions on most of it but one specific part is worth mentioning. A timid, soft-spoken Muslem student questioned her over the controversial line, "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity." She responded by talking about how people knew she had said that line and it being widely reported. She failed to even attempt at justifying it (despite the student trying another time to generate some sort of coherent response).

She concluded her "argument" by telling him that she would like to get his name so she could pass it on to John Ashcroft.
