Uh oh. Liters. I am out.

See ya!

2005-04-15 02:57:59 PM
Number41 Well, in that case, so does life in prison without parole.

Not really. Criminals in prison rape other criminals, and also can escape or get out on a technicality. Parole can also come out of no where (I think). Death just avoids all that. You never have to worry about it.

yes...once the victim becomes an angel in heaven, they immediately turn their thoughts to the creation of physical pain for their killers.

it really does make sense.

If I was a Totaler would I be an accountant?

Murder for murder is still murder, so lets kill em all!

Still far less painless than the basebat bat execution those bastards deserve.

Executions should be a .50 to the head while knealing over their grave. Fark all this wasted money.

Everyone that thinks death row is a waste of money, but life in prison is also not adequate punishment for murder, line up behind me. Bring rope, fire, and firearms. We're marching to death row to "fix" something.

That statement can't get me in trouble, can it?

/moderate sarcasm

I know I'm coming in the middle of this whole argument, what with the posting only being up for 10 minutes.

Anyway, I'm totally against this whole death penalty deal, especially since the Illinois mess ups on death row. Even before that though, I made up my mind that it's not the state's decision to decide who lives or dies. I mean, isn't that the ultimate act of government? I love how we get people who want government off our backs, but when it comes to the death penalty or abortion, they want government sanction killings and protection for unborn fetsus! Drives me crazy sometimes.

Topping that off, I believe we need to go back to a real prison system. One where inmates don't get access to cable, A/C, comfortable beds, 3 squares a day, freeweights and congegal visits. Throw these deadbeats in a dark, dank hole until their entire sentence is carried out or they croak and then figure out what to do with them afterwards.

2005-04-15 03:04:23 PM
I've always found that the death penalty evinces the strangest kind of hypocrisy in both parties.

Conservatives, usually viewed as pro-life, tend to be more pro-death penalty.

Liberals, while fighting for abortion rights, tend to disagree with the death penalty.

Political pretzels.

I have a few ideas on what we could do with condemned murderers.

2005-04-15 03:04:47 PM
I think the needle is not sharp enough and that's why the pain happens when injected.

Solution?

Sharpen the needle on a brick, carefully moving the needle in one direction only and then reversing it to hone the point.

Carefully touching a lit cigarette to the oposite forearm or forehead will misdirect any pain perceived by the murderer as the sharp needle goes into the flesh.

That will do it.

Our founding fathers owned slaves, too.

Some things they believed in were right. Some were wrong. Just like all human beings. Your desire to see evil punished is right. Your callous indifference to executed innocents is wrong.

is it because they're dead?

Executions would be public in my perfect world. An instrument of.... fear. Still, I think capital punishment is a phenominal idea, and I will take that to my grave, which will be at the hands of the man, when he slips the needle in.

Death by pleasure.

Problem solved.

2005-04-15 03:07:17 PM
I just like how we'll cry that the system is flawed, so someone sentenced to death and their 10 automatic appeals isn't enough to prove someone guilty enough to justify death.

Yet they seem to have no problems with using that EXACT same legal system, and the SAME evidence to put a man in prison for the REST OF HIS LIFE. With NO guarantees of EVER being heard in a courtroom again.

We don't feel comfortable ending your life, but we'll gladly lock you in a small concrete box till you rot away and die, or someone else decides to rape and kill you for us.

Death penalty = crime deterent. Remember seeing a billboard while I was training in Florida 4 yrs ago about their electric chair called "sparky". Had a big picture of a person sitting in the electric chair with huge flames comming out of their head, with the words written underneath..."sometimes ole sparky malfunctions." Looked pretty painful to the electee. Would think twice, maybe 3 times before I committed a crime in Florida. Buzzy.

I think lethal infection is very cruel. Any infection will eventually cause some type of pain. I would need to know more facts about the lethal infection process. Do they infect the prisoners organs or is it a lethal sinus infection or something? Cuz that would really suck. You get a headache, you have this runny nose and congestion, soon comes the chest cold. Must take months to die. Thats cruel. I am certainly against lethal infection.

Police Officers? Whate makes killing a cop more heinous than say a citizen who is killed during a mugging?

In fact, I would challenge to turn that around. One of them was in a profession where they KNEW that they had a good chance of winding up hurt or dead.

2005-04-15 03:10:41 PM
i think our justice system is too nice to criminals. I believe if somebody committs murder (with the exception of vehicular homicide, accidental death, etc.) on purpose and with the intent to kill somebody, they should be given the death penalty. They only have to kill one person for this to take affect. I work in a law office and most people that get convicted of murder usually get out after so many years. there's no such thing as 1st, 2nd, 3rd degree murder in my book. If somebody kills somebody, then they deserve to die. i think with a policy like that, you would see a huge decrease in the number of murders because it would only take one murder to land your ass on the chair. I also believe murder shouldn't be the only thing respectable of the death penalty. I believe anybody who committs rape should be given the death penalty. I may sound harsh, but these are common sense things people just do not do. You do not knowingly approach someone and rape them...it's just not done. So yeah, I think rape should result in the death penalty.

don't hate me for my opinions...they're only opinions and we're all entitled to them. :) happy farking people!!

2005-04-15 03:10:46 PM
It's probably still less painful than Ol' Sparky.

Personally, I think they should just put a bullet in the head.
What's a bullet cost?

If it were me, and I was wrongly convicted, I would rather have a few minutes of pain and be done with it than to sit on death row for the rest of my life.

DNA evidence and the eventual death of Scalia will show a huge decline in innocent people being convicted...

The court has no obligation to wake up a defendent's lawyer. -- Justice Scalia

2005-04-15 03:10:51 PM
Though I'm technically against the death penalty, this seems like an awful lot of time, money and research into something that doesn't really seem all that critical.

First, there's no real way of knowing what happens when someone is dying if they don't wake up and tell you about it (which, I assume, doesn't happen with lethal injections).

Second, it's not like the guy will be any more or less dead, even if we prove that it is painful. While gratuitous suffering isn't my thing, being dead is pretty final and how you get there is insignificant from an executioner's point of view. Would speeding it up so that it isn't 10 minutes of agony be better? Is 30 seconds of agony too much? (My point here is that no matter how you kill someone, they're still dead).

Finally, if we can prove it is painful, perhaps we should advertise that fact to help out with the deterrent effect (since the whole being dead thing doesn't seem to work).

As I said, I don't like the idea of killing people. However, since we're going to do it anyway, spending a lot of time and money worrying that the process is painful seems like spitting in the ocean and hoping that the tide will rise.

/only a little tongue-in-cheek

Listen, this is just like that Jerry Seinfeld routine where he talks about how the cops will chase and beat down a criminal and then as they're throwing him in the back of the squad car, they put their hands on his head and say "Watch yourself!" or "Watch you head!"

There are bleeding hearts out there (yeah, I'm talking to you) that need to defend SOMEBODY even if that SOMEBODY is a murdering, pedophile rapist!!

They don't CARE they raped and murdered a 9 year old girl, they only know that person is going to feel a little 'discomfort' at the time of their execution and they NEED to defend them.
You bleeding hearts (yeah, YOU) are just as bad as the criminals!

Kill em quick or let them rot in jail and die there anyway? Innocent people get jailed for the rest of their lives too, but we aren't doing away with prison, folks.

I wish we could just return to the days of public executions. Seriously, the death penalty is supposed to be a deterrant. Not much of a bloody deterrant if only a few people are allowed to watch, and it's made to be as painless and peaceful as possible.

I say we return to the days of public hanging. Not even that sissy "break the neck when the trap door drops" shiat. Let the rope STRANGLE the person to death. Heck, do a group of murderers at the same time, as many as the gallows can hold.

2005-04-15 03:12:40 PM
inkdrinker-

The death penalty has been watered down so much that convicts know all they have to do is keep filing appeals and they will stay in prison, on the taxpayer's dime, for years if not the rest of their life.

2005-04-15 03:12:44 PM
bring back the rack, the "iron maiden"(not the band), and the gallows; then let 'em complain about "cruel and unusual".

public hangings, decapitations and castrations would probably cut our crime rate in half.

For the Righteous in the crowd.

An Eye for an Eye
You have heard that it was said, Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth. But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
Love for Enemies
You have heard that it was said, Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
