2002-03-27 04:11:25 PM
Obviously the British legal system is not as sophisticated as the US legal system.

2002-03-27 04:11:51 PM
Harmonia is crying in his coffee today.

2002-03-27 04:11:52 PM
Hooray! Score another one for the corporate megagiant!!

w00t!!

2002-03-27 04:11:55 PM
Of course not... stupid people can't keep from spilling their coffee, it's their own damn fault. It's not like the employees are throwing coffee on people...

2002-03-27 04:12:04 PM
Being a klutzy dumbass is not a right, it's a privilege.

2002-03-27 04:13:51 PM
Now if only people could keep from shooting themselves while playing catch with a shotgun....

2002-03-27 04:14:00 PM
where are all the BOOBOIES today :-(

2002-03-27 04:14:17 PM
Tucci, wtf?! Pouring coffee in your lap is hardly something any "corporate megagiant" compels you to do. Don't go to McDonalds if you think the coffee's too hot. Or buy it and be careful not to spill it. But come on, this is hardly some kind of example of Big Corporations truimphing in their grand scheme to screw over The Rest Of Us.

2002-03-27 04:14:26 PM
note to US assheads.

coffee is supposed to be hot.
If the british can figure that out, why can't you.
*this rant is not to be taken as an assault on all US persons, just those litigious piles of crap whom you house*

2002-03-27 04:14:32 PM
McDonald's "coffee" is gross.

2002-03-27 04:14:36 PM
At least 16 of the plaintiffs were under 5 years old when they were injured

uh last time i checked i dont recall seeing toddlers drinking coffee

2002-03-27 04:14:42 PM
I'll drink to that !!! OW MY SCALDED THIGHS !!!!! LAWYER !!!

2002-03-27 04:15:38 PM
America's legal system could learn a lot from..... well, nearly every other legal system on the planet.

2002-03-27 04:15:44 PM
The Britsh are so un-American.

2002-03-27 04:16:23 PM
Don't sue the restaraunt!

Sue the COFFEE !!!

2002-03-27 04:16:49 PM
Obviously the British legal system isn't as good as the american legal system.

2002-03-27 04:17:03 PM
Lawsuits are the only vehicle that can be used to throttle the monster called capitalism.

2002-03-27 04:17:07 PM
Thank God. Maybe we can put an end to the madness.

2002-03-27 04:17:46 PM
i once wrote a song called "grandma burned her crotch"
we live in a country where, if you put "not for internal use" on a product, you can get sued because some moron will get frostbite using it outside, in minnesota, in january, because he thought they meant in a house.
and he'll win too.
go britain. they still lead us in some categories.

2002-03-27 04:19:02 PM
My mouth is burned from boiling ketchup dripping from a McCheeseburger. You know they like to pour A LOT.

How much should I be asking for?

The American Trail Lawyers Assoc. is the single largest contributor to the Democratic National Committee. That's why I am proud to be be a Democrat.

Red99 - Am I to assume by your userid that you're a communist?

2002-03-27 04:21:24 PM
W00t! Maybe if some of our judges had shown wisdom and common sense like this honorable British judge, and shot down these nonsense claims when they first came out, we wouldn't have so much bullshiat litigation in the U.S. today. I tip my hat to this man.

Tucci: Corporate Megagiants make the world go round. Blow it out your orifice of choice.

Puckhead: Well said. Before you have to endure the usual flame storm from knuckle-dragging hard-ons, let me say that I agree with you. The U.S. is becoming notorious for this, and we should be prepared to deal with people from the outside criticizing it. Where are you from?

2002-03-27 04:22:19 PM
wow this is radical. a corporation not liable for people's actions? next they'll say that the current employees of aetna et al. aren't financially responsible for the slavery of thousands over a hundred-fifty years ago.

amazing.

2002-03-27 04:22:30 PM
It's good to see that common sense still lives.

2002-03-27 04:22:56 PM
Krik81--- Do you know what the constitution is? If I remember right (correct me if I'm wrong), the BRITISH constitiution is based on ours. BUT the british have numerous UNWRITTEN laws. Therefore, it's hard to tell if you've broken a law there. And you call THAT something to learn from?

2002-03-27 04:22:58 PM
One semester, I worked in the fast food place on campus (affecionately known as The Rat). I accidentally spilled coffee all over my leg. It hurt a lot and really sucked. So, I went back, put ice and cool water on my leg and somehow managed to live. I forgot that I was probably supposed to sue to school.

2002-03-27 04:23:01 PM
Once I die from illnesses related to the consumption of McDonalds food, my surviving relatives will sue McDonalds and become grotesquely wealthy. Maybe they will open a burger stand, I don't know....

2002-03-27 04:23:07 PM
They should fine these morons for wasting the time of the court.

2002-03-27 04:23:22 PM
"Red99 - Am I to assume by your userid that you're a communist?"

I am a Democrat only because the Communist Party of the US is weak now and a wasted vote. We Communists are hoping to move the Democrats even farther to our side. We have had a lot of success so far. WOuld you be interested in joining us?

2002-03-27 04:23:48 PM
Is it me or have there been rather more UK/US flamewars starting up than usual over the past few days?

..for a start, the yanks have almost used up their supply of "British Teeth" pictures already, and even Harmonia seems to have given up in advance.

2002-03-27 04:24:04 PM
Red99's bio states that he is an "enemy of the right". The only thing we are able to deduce from this is that he is a "friend of the wrong".

Some may call us wrong, but they are incorrect.

2002-03-27 04:26:08 PM
isn't anyone going to take the bait?

;-)

2002-03-27 04:26:13 PM
And for another thing...

British jusdges seem to have more common sense for some reason... Maybe we should import some of them...

2002-03-27 04:26:51 PM
However McDonald's has been found liable for making everyone a fat bastard.

2002-03-27 04:27:20 PM
At least 16 of the plaintiffs were under 5 years old when they were injured, he said.

Field said that McDonald's customers would not accept coffee and other drinks if they were served at temperatures low enough to prevent scalding.

I know when I was a toddler my mom used to test the scald potential of her McDonald's coffee by dumping it on my head. If the skin peeled, it was deemed drinkable.

2002-03-27 04:27:29 PM
I see this becoming a flamewar worse than when Fb- and Harmonia get together.

Piggywiz - well stated

oh yeah i already posted something to the same effect LOL

Metalstill, then maybe those pre-5-year-olds' parents shouldn't let the kid hold the coffee while they put away their change, or grab their McMuffins.

Sounds like grounds for a countersuit to me.

2002-03-27 04:29:52 PM
Bokonon: If you have to ask, probably not. Also, if you have to ask, it was probably not the best troll in the first place.

Red99, what's it like to be part of a Political Ideology that has never in the history of Political Ideologies been successful? Just curious.

The King of Toast
we should all be enemies of the election-fixing, corporation-loving, anti-human right-wingers. i've never seen something so wrong as this country's conservative establishment. what venal warmongering porfiteers they are! they don't live in rule under law...they live in rule by profit, by whatever means necessary.

2002-03-27 04:30:53 PM
Question for the Brits. Isn't there some punishment for bringing up frivilous lawsuits over there? What is the standards for that (losing the case vs. wasting the court's time)? Or is it just my imagination?

"KevinOfOz

I understand that their backwards and unjust system forces the loser to pay for legal costs for both sides.

2002-03-27 04:33:09 PM
King of Toast: true, but hey, cut me some slack. i've never started one before. i guess it's a good thing i'm not a good troll, eh?
