Okay, on one hand it is disrespectful to not keep quiet. But on the otherhand, expecting other's to be respectful for someone they care nothing for ...

(shrugs)

I can see it both ways. But still, when at a friend's and they wish to say a prayer at dinner, even tho I'm an atheist, and they know it, I'm still respectful enough of them to just keep quiet and let them do their thing.

The Pope was well-known to be a Celtic fan.

People need to learn to shut up. People seem to think it's OK to blab on and on and on whenever they feel like it.

Shilling, on the other hand...

Low? Yes. But Scotland isn't very Catholic.

I can really see where they are coming from.
Doesn't mean I would boo also, but I don't blame 'em.

If the pope was French, he'd probably get booed here in the states.

Just another reason why soccer and soccer fans suck.

The pope was an idiot. You're the stupid one.

2005-04-10 11:12:45 PM
I would have been silent just out of respect for the man, regardless of his position or the fact that he was the leader of the worlds largest church. Look at the positive things he has done.

2005-04-10 11:18:10 PM
They're probably just pissed off because everywhere they went for the last week they've had to give a 'minute' of silence for the pope. They wanted a soccer game.

Maybe Scotland gets round the clock coverage of the Pope and it drives them nuts. I know I'm tired of the All-News stations focusing all their time and energy on the Pope's final hours, last rites, death, mourning, burial, cremation and eventual trancendence into heaven. If this barrage of weeping on camera keeps up, protestants will be burning effigies of the Pope all around the world. Jesus people, let the man rest in peace.

Republican: "Pope John-Paul the 2nd embraced a culture of life..."
Journalist: "Didn't he also oppose the death penalty and the war in Iraq?"
Republican: "I'm not here to discuss his politics..."

Oooh... I wonder if this is going to be one of those "infinity" threads.

Personally, I dig hanging out with heathens. You can do all manner of insane things to them and wake up the next day without a smudge of guilt. Seriously. I mean, give someone, with no concept of God, a few drinks and you have a playmate who will do the darnedest things all night long. They get their ass thrown in the slammer and I go home and think of ways to keep my next "friend" from getting confiscated and jailed. There's so many heathens that if your heathen kills someone, it's probably just another heathen. No harm done, really. I mean, what is their life but an empty shell, waiting to be topped off by smooth, satisfying self-gratification. Heathens rock.

Ok not super model, but not bad either. And she looks hot with short hair, pretty rare for a chick.

Actually, in my experience, heathens feel a lot more guilt about many things than Catholics. Catholics, after all, can go confess and be forgiven all sorts of things. Being a heathen doesn't mean not having a sense of morality or an ethical code. It just means you don't get one from the dude in the funny hat.

If hating a man who condemned millions of innocents in Africa to horrific deaths from AIDS makes me doomed to hell, then so be it. I like warm climates, anyway.

I believe I misread your posting the first time around.

If you believe not beliving in God, or the pope, or whatever means you'll go around killing and raping and stealing (and you wouldn't be the first I've encountered), then you just keep right on believing.

Please.

I was living in San Francisco around 1987 when the Pope visited. He was playing the 'Stick. I got a ticket through a Catholic friend and went to check out the scene.

First off, the big markee was surrounded by Bud and Marlboro ads, and kept flashing various "The Pope! -- The Pope! -- John Paul II! -- The Holy Father!" exploding cheesy light displays. Then it started with live coverage of the guy riding around SF in the Popemobile. Finally, he pulled into the Stick, so here was all kinds of "Viva el Papa!" from the segregated Filipino/Hispanic/Portuguese/Irish/Random audience. Then a whole bunch of monotone multilingual homilies or whatever that pretty much anesthaetized everyone. Then he got back in the Popemobile and sped away.

In the parking lot I got a bootlegged t-shirt, "Peek at the Pope" with all his US appearance dates on the back. I cut off the sleeves and wore at as a muscle shirt when the weather was good, and you could still get away with that kind of fashion as a 20-year-old.

"There is no room for that sort of behavior in the game."

Does he say that everytime they boo, or just when they boo the invisable man?

Ain't that the truth. I get this at work - "OMG, TeH Pope HAETS TEH GAY yU SHOULD TOO YAY BUSH!!1!!" and I go "the Pope condemned the war. Why do you hate the earthly voice of your God?"

Doesn't go over too well. :)

Those scottish soccer fans, they boo for everything, mainly because they are drunk twenty four hours a day.

Everyone knows that Scottish soccer fans are the scum of the earth.
