Well, they got two of my faves in there, rusty nails and Manhattans (though I take sweet vermouth in mine). But they somehow left off bourbon and ginger ale, while letting the pansy typhoon in the back door...
2005-04-10 02:31:16 AM
I preferred perfect manhattans myself when I drank (1/2 sweet and 1/2 dry vermouth). Try that sometime if you haven't.

Sounds feasible, I'll give it a go next time I'm in a bar. Thanks for the suggestion.

Nothing but mixed drinks? Real men don't drink mixes.

Jack Daniels, straight from the bottle. Right after dropping a tree. (Or before, depending on how many fingers I care to wind up with.)

I'm with you there. Jack Daniels on the rocks is my favorite drink. If you can't sip whiskey, you're not a real man.

I really don't know about all those choices mixing with scotch, it really doesn't need any help.

Are y'all really having a serious discussiosn about an

article? I thought we were just supposed to mock those.

e.g., what would AskMen know about "manly" drinks?
2005-04-10 11:01:52 AM
They missed out 1/2 a bottle of warm, flat beer with a cigarette butt in it.
2005-04-10 11:03:30 AM
What, no "Tom and Jerry"?

"Brasky drank a full glass of liquid LSD with his eggs. Then he slept for 8 months straight. When he woke he rubbed his eyes and said, 'All in all, I prefer gin.'"
2005-04-10 12:23:50 PM
They still make Zima? What the Hell is that stuff, anyway?
2005-04-10 12:25:20 PM
Uhh, a "Manhattan" made with Scotch is not a Manhattan.
2005-04-10 12:25:35 PM
Zima is a malt liquor, kind of like Smirnoff Ice.
2005-04-10 12:26:56 PM
Chances are, if you're reading an AskMen column, you're not manly to begin with. And drinking gunpowder in your gasoline isn't going to change any of that.
2005-04-10 12:27:22 PM
Zima what i bouhgt my girlfriend in college when i wanted to get her drunk fast and cheap
2005-04-10 12:27:22 PM
I see a lot of vagina drinks on there, but no rum and coke?

I prefer beer, anyway.
2005-04-10 12:27:37 PM
What no boilermaker? Pfft. Then again the very idea of "manly" drinks is oh so preposterous, the sorta thing high school seniors would come up.
2005-04-10 12:28:50 PM
Incomplete list. I don't see any mention of Shirley Temples... What gives?
2005-04-10 12:28:50 PM
...would come up with (edit for previous post)
2005-04-10 12:29:01 PM
My girlfriend just bought me a bottle of Maker's Mark. Every time I have a tumbler-full, I can feel another hair grow on my chest.
2005-04-10 12:30:16 PM
white russians..

beer always first though...
2005-04-10 12:31:00 PM
moonman9j9: I prefer beer, anyway.

You live in the US, I hope you're not talking about some weak-ass-2%-beer-American-Crap.
2005-04-10 12:31:58 PM
Now this, my fine feathered friends, is good whiskey:

[image from too old to be available]

To summarize: You are birds, this whiskey is 94 proof and $40 (in WA), and delicious.
2005-04-10 12:32:00 PM
Nothing's more manly than some Everclear
2005-04-10 12:32:05 PM
I was hoping the Manhattan would be on there, it's my drink of choice around the house but ordering one in a bar is a gamble. If the bar tender blows dust off a book from under the bar before making your drink, stick to beer.

I also do martinis if made with Belvedere.
2005-04-10 12:32:39 PM
Wheres the beer?
2005-04-10 12:32:46 PM
I don't know if this counts but I've seen a few girls turn into men after a few shots of Jaegermeister.
2005-04-10 12:32:48 PM
I once drank half a Bartles & James winecooler that I stole out of some girl's backpack, I thought that was pretty manly.
2005-04-10 12:33:36 PM
/strong ( 120 or so proof) but smooth and will make you a real man or real dead
2005-04-10 12:33:56 PM
Gin+Tonic = Perfection.
2005-04-10 12:34:15 PM
There's Zomething In My Ass (ZIMA)
2005-04-10 12:34:21 PM
Best whiskey? A good really old single malt Scotch, neat.
2005-04-10 12:34:24 PM
Manly Drinks?

Nothing beats a Forest Fire.

Take one shot of gin, but don't swallow, hold it in your mouth. Follow that with one shot of everclear. Shake your head. Swallow.

Feels like a coniferous forest going up in flames in your mouth.

Now that's a mans drink. Double points if you can beer bong the whole thing at once. (I can't, but I know people who can)
2005-04-10 12:35:03 PM
I belive Zima is clear malt liquor, like clear Pepsi, but not quite as cool.
2005-04-10 12:35:11 PM
Mmmmm mmmmm biatch!

[image from too old to be available]
2005-04-10 12:35:58 PM
Oops Squishydrew beat me to it.
2005-04-10 12:36:19 PM
im willing to wager pays to have their links posted on

Shadow Fairy

I don't know if this counts but I've seen a few girls turn into men after a few shots of Jaegermeister. overrated. I love how people think Jager is all hardcore when it's 70 proof, tastes like candy, and you can drink it like water.
2005-04-10 12:36:41 PM
what about the white russian man?

[image from too old to be available]
2005-04-10 12:36:50 PM
I think the ritual chug-a-bottle-of-vermouth-when-you-run-out-of-vodka/gin is pretty manly aswell.

Hemingway drank vermouth.
2005-04-10 12:36:59 PM
Actually didn't Zima and Crystal Pepsi come out almost at the same time? Like within a month or two of each other?
2005-04-10 12:37:48 PM
I like

Macallan 12 year on the rocks or with a bit of cold water.
Courvoisier VSOP
Stoli on the rocks.

/Not much of a Stomach lining left.
2005-04-10 12:37:49 PM
Ten manly websites. Askmen, surprisingly, not on the list.

/real men drink Strawberry St. Ides
2005-04-10 12:38:27 PM
I like Yuengling. I don't know if that qualifies as "weak American crap".
2005-04-10 12:38:30 PM
Where's the White Russian (The Dude would have a word with you, but he's not in) and the J&C? JD and Coke is manly enough when you have to drive and can't go straight JD on the rocks, biatch.
2005-04-10 12:38:53 PM

Anyone ever see "Lazer" 40's?
2005-04-10 12:38:57 PM
You want a "manly" drink? Try a Time Bomb. Equal parts lemon juice, vodka, and aquavit. Almost certainly created on a dare.

Not really being into pain, however, I usually just get a John Collins.
2005-04-10 12:40:11 PM
You won't find me with any of those awful drinks in my hand. I'll be the one with a big ol' bottle of Boone's farm.

Unlike the fellows at, I'm comfortable with my sexuality, and I don't need a drink that tastes like ass to prove it to everyone else.
2005-04-10 12:40:27 PM
A real man's drink has at most 2 ingredients, and ice is an ingredient.
