Another article in a related newspaper offers this excellent capsule summary: Two Brighton brothers were arrested after they didn't pay enough for the cab they took to chase an MBTA bus that carried two men they were looking to beat up because they didn't pay enough to borrow their cell phone, police said.

Two trenchcoat-clad Brighton brothers, Anthony J. and Michael J. Verani

Because the fact that they were wearing trenchcoats makes this entire situation so much more evil. Maybe they new the Columbine and Red Lake kids.

WTF?

Hearing "Yackety Sax" in your head helps visualize the story.

2005-04-09 03:04:52 PM

Anthony, 28, of 249 Chestnut Hill Ave., Brighton, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot and the side of a motor vehicle), malicious destruction to a motor vehicle and taxi fare evasion. Michael, 27, who lives at the same Brighton address, was arrested and charged with assault and battery.

shod foot? and shouldn't michael also be charged with taxi fare evasion.

ooops, sun's out... time to delve into the outside world..

I believe we are all in agreement.

Yackety Sax is the greatest ridiculous chase/hijinks song ever recorded.

in fact, the only one..

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Gold. If they wrote it in a movie, you wouldn't believe it.

NeedleGuy: shod foot?

Basically a hard soled shoe. Like you, or more likely your dad, used to wear to work. If you kick someone with it, it's considered a deadly weapon, a foot in a sneaker isn't. Boots also count as shod feet.

/knows way too much about brawling laws in Boston, having been a bouncer.

Someone should have sat these fellas down and sang them the oompa loompa song instead

Oh god, as if that wasn't funny enough, just picturing that whole scene set to "Benny Hill" has me almost in tears.

I like how they paid more for the taxi ride (even if they underpaid) than they thought the cell-phone-guy owed them. Obviously these guys are not entrepreneurial material.
Note to self: If you make vast plans after a night of drinking, expect half vast results.

This is why you get your money up front.

eekmale: This is why you get your money up front.

No, this is where you don't be a dick and just let the person borrow your phone.

If the guy hadn't been a dumbass, he'd have gotten change with his dollar and used a pay phone, and told the brother he was a shill when he asked for $5.

True he could have gone that way. But given that he probably can't not be a dick. He should have been smarter ;)

I thought there was honor among thieves? Guess not.

To truly be Benny Hill, though, the brothers would have to shed their trenchcoats to reveal...petticoats.

Just another night at the roxbury folks, nothing new for Boston.

Who lets someone borrow their mobile phone, even for five bucks. They call Nigeria for 20 minutes.

re Diabolic: What event does the "MORANS" pic come from, anyway?

God Bless Benny Hill ... His legacy continues ...

(BTW ... "Yakkety Sax" is the theme for the Benny Hill Show.)

I'm guessing he also has a major problem doing that.
