He's not staring. It's just that the artist never could draw eyes properly.

2005-04-05 04:24:03 PM
It's weird. He never blinks.

The "Popemobile" would need revamping also. But there can only be one "Popemobile", so we'd have to call it "Popemobile 2". But he's Catholic and knows Latin, so "Popemobileduae" would be more proper for our Universal crime fighting Pope.

There. Now we have his new car name!

*Looks around the room for anyone paying attention

i've always thought that "the pope" would be a great wrestling character - the fabulous robes, the pointy hat suitable for jabbing people, bashing people with his miter, clobbering Hacksaw Jim Duggan in the gut with his censer.

This guy now wants some equal time...

RocketRod Ciao...

OK, you get credit for that, but I was thinking of his "Popeman" bit in "Circle":

He goes around in a Popemobile, and the only other person that does that is Batman, who goes around in the Batmobile. 'Cause he's Popeman! Popeman! Popeman, with Altar Boy! "Quick, Altar Boy, there are some sinners who need, uh, chastising! Leap into the Popemobile! Put those candles out!" With holy water and Jesus discs. (As Altar Boy) "Vampires! Look out, Popeman, Vampires are coming!" *throws Jesus discs* "You sure shot them out of the sky!" Could be a whole series... with a lot of complaints.

I think that "Homopater" has just made a place for itself in my lexicon. Thank you, Columbia!

Finally, Colombia is spelled correctly.

Actually, I the original didn't have the Pope colored in the same fashion as the background, so I touched it up a bit!

God bless ya, JP2.

This comic'll be either really cool and funny, or deplorably pathetic. I may just have to hunt down a copy to read - my Spanish isn't that bad.

The stoop and potbelly are kinda sad yet strangely endearing.

I predict this book will start out strong, get shot down by some critics, tone down what it says, then near the end get real shaky before it finally dies.

I was Unaware that that pope wore thongs...but thanks for the heads up and its nice that they are bidding him farewell

As ceremony_1968 has already indicated, it's been done.

Popeman vs. Jack Chick!!! Battle Royale for who gets in the pearly gates! Kick his ass, JPII.

2005-04-05 10:40:40 PM
I wonder if there is a webcam for John Paul's viewing. It would be interesting to see him spin before he even get's into the grave.

2005-04-05 10:42:15 PM
But he's dead Jim!

Don't worry, we'll sell them Pope Handkerchiefs! And people will buy it just to see if the Pope lives, blessed be their blind faith.

Wont be as good as this one:

Does he carry holy handgrenades.

No references yet to either "It's the Bishop!" OR the Church Police? Graham Chapman is twisting in his grave.

I was trying to describe Monty Python's "The Bishop" skit to someone at work today..

"You see, this Bishop is running around the city, it's got great theme music, looks like Die hard, except that every time he gets to his destination, someone dies. And every time he cuts across town to a caper, they die even faster. Every time. Get it?"

I wrapped up with, "well, guess you had to see it."

The Pope is dead. All right??

WTF is with sprinkling the corpse with holy water and reading magickal incantations in Latin?

It reminded me of nothing so much as a witch doctor performing a shamanistic rite.

If your "religion" endorses freakin' magick spellz, it's time to shop for a new one, hey?

For me it was the whole ritual cannibalism of The Holy Communion that made me start really reading the bible, figuring out I'd been duped, and stop playing make-believe.

Dude. 'Tis a comic book. Not something endorsed as an actual part of Christianity by anyone, even the comic's authors. It's fan fiction, if you will. Chill.

I'm guessing there's gonna be some Christ symbolism. Oh snap, did I just break off some college learning or what! Excuse me while I do a little victory dance.

Woah. Thankfully you have been kept far enough away from this stuff that you don't know what is really going on. Point of advice: keep it that way. I'm sorry but, No. To them this is not a comic book it is the truth that only they can see. They really believe the holy water is not ceremonial and has a real beneficial effect. They really believe in certifiably insane things like "transfiguration" where their wafers become actual muscle tissue, tendons, viens and corpuscles of their beloved Christ, while the grape juice/wine becomes warm red blood cell, macrophage filled and plasma based living blood. They gobble and slurp thiem up.

/farkin freaks!

No, no, he's talking about the rites said over the pope's body that are going on right now. Catch some of the proceedings on TV, you'll see.

For the person you were responding to:

They aren't magical incantations, they're prayers for the perpetuation of his legacy and the forgiveness of whatever sins he may have committed in his heart between his last confession and his death. Kind of like the mass for the unshrived, wherein the prayers are thought to get the saints to intercede with God to cut short people's stay in purgatory.

There's a difference between ritual and magic. Even still, these are things the Catholics added on and adopted from Roman and pagan burial rites, which were very heavy on the magic, and thus some of the tone has carried over. I can see why you'd be confused.

I personally think that communion should be like medium rare steak strips so we could really enjoy the body of christ. Pile on the blood in the form of a Pino Noir drillzed into Pico De Gaio. Serve with a healty dollop of Holly Cream and Blessed Refried Beans and top the whole thing with handfuls iof His Immaculate Cheese. You can make a nice (if slightly farty) meal out of remembering your savior.

Religious and filling.

/But that's just me
//and now I/m hungry

/na na na na na na na na, POPE MAN!
