The Jacksonville Inn was stiffed by a President once before. I believe it was Ulysses S. Grant, but I could be mistaken.

2005-04-03 01:19:16 PM
The Rogue Regency has been waiting for payment of $15,000 owed by both the president's and Sen. John Edward's campaigns

I didn't see the part about Edwards in the headline. Just an oversight, right submitter ?

2005-04-03 01:19:51 PM
I sense that some Southern Oregon hotels are about to get audited. Shame.

Just an oversight, right bob2231? ;)

Stimulating the economy, good for him.

No, not at all. The submitter covered the administration's screw up in the headline but left the impression that it was their's alone.

So, all politicians are thieves, it's just the degree the separates them. Fair enough.

How much of the article was devoted to the Bush administration skipping out on the cost, and how much was devoted to Edwards? Yeah, that's right.

At the Red Lion, Stephens said that a member of the Secret Service asked last week for a $400 refund on the bill because he believed his agents hadn't used a particular briefing room. She said she pointed out that a refund wasn't possible because the rest of the bill had not been paid.

Nice. Asking for a refund before you pay the bill. Classic.

astudill: Stimulating the economy, good for him.

Hey, it just so happens that there are still plenty of us morans struggling with economics that believe in the broken window fallacy, thank you very much ;)

/doesn't believe in the broken window fallacy
//doesn't feel like explaining the concept

In any case... excuse the hijack.

Secret Service spokesman Jim Mackin apologized for delays in getting payment to Rogue Valley hotels. "If we haven't paid it we should have paid it," he said.

He added that any hotels in the area that have not been paid should contact his office immediately. "If they are sure they are all our rooms, these are things we can work out tomorrow," he said Thursday.

Nothing to see here..... happens all the time when dealing with government.... or any business for that matter.

2005-04-03 01:44:43 PM
Well, that's ironic.

I can't decide which line is better

I doubt this sort of thing has anything to do with which party or individual is involved, it's just typical bureaucratic oversight and incompetence.

2005-04-03 03:48:34 PM
From what I gathered, it wasn't as much Bush or Edwards, rather the secret service guarding them.

2005-04-03 06:51:19 PM
Edwards isn't mentioned as much because he's no longer news. Bush still is.

2005-04-03 10:18:28 PM
Ok all you partisan assnuggets, how about this:

Both Bush and Edwards did the wrong thing and both suck. Edwards is now... i have no idea what he is doing now, and dont really care. Bush is POTUS, thus has a special responsibility at this moment in time.

Face it, Kerry/Edwards would not have been much better, they are owned by the same people that own the Bush admin. Corporate America always wins, even when everything goes to shiat and everyone loses their jobs because the corporations sold out and closed down in the interests of shareholders and you are queing in a soup kitchen line, Corporate America wins whilst sipping cocktails by the pool in the south pacific.

When interest rates really go up, and oil is too expensive for the common man, I suggest you go on lynching runs and get some execs strung up. Wont change anything, but you will feel better for it.

Small and medium business will always stick up for large corporations, because they believe that maybe one day they will also be large corporations and will then want the same rights.

Bah, its all going to hell anyway, enjoy being allowed to own weapons.

/End meandering confused pointless rant

If I pulled a trick like this it wouldn't be news. Poor president and vice presidential candidate, all of their actions are scrutinized so very much.

Yeah, damn those farkers who question sending people into illegal and immoral wars. Nobody should ever question our benevolent leaders. I'm totally behind you.

Sheesh.

/you understand that I understand your sarcasm, I hope.

Republicrats and Demicans, two sides of the same coin. Theives and prostitutes all!

2005-04-03 11:55:52 PM
The letter written by the hotel's accountant Kirsten Yunuba Stephens, said: "My question to you: Is this how you help balance the budget at the White House by ripping off retailers in the towns you visit? If that is the case please do not come back to the Rogue Valley."

Right, moranic asshat accountant for a hotel in a dead-end job, because of COURSE it's the president, and the president alone who's responsible for whipping out the plastic to pay the secret service's tab.

Well, I guess Kirsten got her 15 minutes. Idiot.

They paid the bill before they didn't pay the bill.

Huh. Whaddaya know. Bush as a thief.

And this is surprising because...?

Poor Wittle Bittie Gobermant.

Yeah right. But I was amused by the bill-collection style biatchiness of the letter from Kirsten. You got served, W. With a notice of collection, that is.

*lets a "Bush is Hitler" fart, clears thread*

It just occurred to me that, every time I check in to a hotel, I have to produce a piece of plastic. These hotels in the story should reconsider their business policies.

I think it's what is referred to as a "Troll Post". Either that or meant as a joke-as in, the Republicans STILL manage to blame Clinton, for everything...even their own screw-ups.

Clinton got a BJ.

/what was the topic again?

2005-04-04 12:09:36 AM
Well, you see, Clinton got a BJ when he was in office, and thus instilled in the Secret Service around him an absent sense of personal responsibility. Thus, it is Clinton's fault this happened. QED.

2005-04-04 12:14:19 AM
robsul82: Thus, it is Clinton's fault this happened. QED.

And Clinton didn't go after Osama, either.

If he'd done that, Bush wouldn't have HAD to dine-and-dash.

So after all the looting of our treasury, war profiteering on completely false pretenses, and the murders of tens of thousands of innocent people we are supposed to be somehow amazed that they would run out on a hotel/restaraunt bill? How dim do you think we are?

2005-04-04 12:15:00 AM
g-my

Since when are the Secret Service politicians?

/They work for whomever is in office if I remember correctly.

2005-04-04 12:16:11 AM
And if Clinton did this, you'd be screaming for his head on a platter.

Bush could kill and eat a newborn on live TV and the neo-con lunatics would find a way to justify it (to themselves).

2005-04-04 12:17:35 AM
You know what's going to happen eventually:

It'll come out in the wash that the City of Medford will not have to pay 19,000 in Homeland Security Charges.

But the hotel'll be screwed. I wonder if they can write it off on their taxes?

2005-04-04 12:17:50 AM
Geez, didn't they collect a freakin credit card number at checkin? I don't know about you, but most places I've been to insist on it these days.

2005-04-04 12:19:03 AM
Don't worry. They made that money back with Bush's taxcut, I'm sure.

/wait for it

w007, Medford! A stone's throw away from me!

2005-04-04 12:19:49 AM
If Bush and the SS huslted me into the corner to quietfully and threatfully mug me for $20 bucks I wold so totally not be surprised.

What has happened to my country is orders of maginitude more serious than anything involving my personal finances.

2005-04-04 12:19:50 AM
Bush needs to go. Please vote on Nov 2. Anyone but Bush.
