2005-04-03 03:38:42 AM
I had to laugh at that. what the heck did they expect?.
2005-04-03 04:13:49 AM
'Also, young children on bikes scream, 'I'm Rick James, biatch!' as we drive by in our car with our 'Rick James' car signs ... People even drive by our home and scream, 'Super Freak.'

Too funny.

// Cocaine's a hell of a drug
2005-04-03 11:11:51 AM
nice how you can't say biatch here, but it makes the frontpage
2005-04-03 11:12:21 AM
OK Comedy Central should send them several thousand signs that say "Vote Rick James Biatch!"

Everyone wins!
2005-04-03 11:16:26 AM
So quit whining and go by "Richard James"!

2005-04-03 11:17:02 AM
Seriously though redesign the signs so that its reads R. James or use your middle name.
2005-04-03 11:17:50 AM
Free Publicity. Stop complaining

/gotta love those sketches.

//biatches, have sex with Charlie Murphy!
2005-04-03 11:20:55 AM
Personally, I think he should embrace the whole thing. "Vote Rick James, biatch!" would be the second greatest slogan ever (number one is Dave Barry's "Basically, he just wants attention").

And imagine what debates would be like! He could walk walk up to his opponent and ask him, "What did the five fingers say to the face?"
2005-04-03 11:23:05 AM
that shiat is funny.
2005-04-03 11:23:59 AM
Attention Whore, that's why my vote is going to the incumbent:

Tyrone Buggums
"A Peanut Butter and Crack Sandwitch in every pot"

b403: nice how you can't say biatch here, but it makes the frontpage

And I'm sure that makes you so distraught.
2005-04-03 11:26:09 AM
I'll bet he wins, I hope we get a follow up on this after the voting is over
2005-04-03 11:26:24 AM
The power of the media.
2005-04-03 11:26:51 AM
Did someone say Richard James? No hot-linky.
2005-04-03 11:28:24 AM
Ho, ho, the hilariously enduring and not-beaten-into-the-ground-at-all humor of the Rick James Chappelle show skit.

I can't say anything more in this post because i am too busy HOLDING MY SIDES.
2005-04-03 11:31:35 AM
that's funny
and i like that they sent a polite letter in lieu of the obligatory lawsuit.
i'm considering sending him 10 bucks for a couple of signs myself, of course i'll expect him to send me one after the election.

I nominate zombie Rick James for City Council!
2005-04-03 11:40:30 AM
A year ago in Toronto, The Comedy Network put up fake candidate signs next to all the real ones that said Vote Quimby to advertise the new time for Simpsons. Twas funny.
2005-04-03 11:48:10 AM
dmd8605: when i'm missing out on the NSFW links and trying to keep things clean at the moment, pages with biatch = not so good
2005-04-03 12:03:50 PM
I wish I had more hands, so I could give them Democrats four thumbs down!
2005-04-03 12:15:09 PM
Heh...i've i worked for Comedy central, I might consider springing for a name change. As that option is just as sensical.

/ Isn't Rick short for Richard, or am I mistaken?
2005-04-03 12:19:11 PM
Just call him Ricky.. or Richy! Or Dick. Either one works.

/Sports Junkies..... anyone?
2005-04-03 12:27:54 PM
They just need to sell copies of the sign online for $10, plus S&H. That should more than cover the theft.
2005-04-03 12:35:40 PM
"Vote Rick James Biatch!" Would work, except only with blacks and young people, who don't vote.
2005-04-03 12:36:37 PM
...and anyway, the guy's an attention whore for going by "Rick" anyway, Chappelle or no.
2005-04-03 01:23:46 PM
"..and anyway, the guy's an attention whore for going by "Rick" anyway, Chappelle or no."

Maybe Rick James in Mississippi has been going by Rick for his entire life and he doesn't want to change. I'm sure there was some poor bastard named Charles Manson in Dubuque, Iowa who didn't want to try out Chuck or Chas in 1969. You can't control when someone else who shares your name is going to blow up.
2005-04-03 01:44:38 PM
That's amusing, but there's one guy in our city that is running for council and his name is "Dick Johnson" I want to grab one of those XD!
2005-04-03 01:57:54 PM

So quit whining and go by "Richard James"!

yeah, i think aphex twin fans would be less likely to steal those signs.

2005-04-03 03:38:21 PM
I don't know... people are taking your signs and posting them around the city and your names are in the NY Times. Ride the publicity!

Contact the Daily show and try to get a 'interview' I can see Mo Rocha? asking him to sing SuperFreak. Sell the signs on EBay!
2005-04-03 05:10:46 PM
So quit whining and go by "Richard James"!

"Why should I change my name? He's the one who sucks."

Im from Hattiesburg, I thought all the signs were a joke..
2005-04-03 07:33:06 PM
So quit whining and go by "Richard James"!

The ironic thing about that is I think they purposely went with "Rick James" instead of "Richard" because they thought he would get more attention from people. Unfortunately they did not realize just how much attention they would get and so they were caught with their pants down. Oh well, they asked for it. When you play with fire don't complain when you get burned, so...

A few things:

1. My roommate's name is Rick James.
2. $4.75 a yard sign? WTF?
3. Corporations generally can't contribute to campaigns. Maybe the laws are different in New York?
2005-04-03 09:26:46 PM
Whoops, the policeman's in Mississippi, not New York. It wouldn't surprise me if corporations can give money in MS.
2005-04-03 11:22:01 PM
I don't live far from there. I ought to go and get one of those signs myself.
2005-04-04 12:56:13 AM
You can't say biatch?
2005-04-04 11:37:32 AM
Catrman unavailable for comment... "your mom is a b/i/t/c/h...."

I'm from the Burg, too, shakespear. The Rick James in question has always gone by "Rick." He was a DJ throughout the '80s and '90s on Hattiesburg radio.

The last I ever heard of him (radio-wise) was in the mid-'90s when he did a nutball conspiracy talk show similar to Art Bell's. The last time I saw him was a couple of years ago at a swap meet/garage sale thing, where he was actually campaigning for some form of office.

And, yes, I've seen the campaign signs around town. They would make nice souvenirs!
2005-04-04 02:10:11 PM
"IM RICK JAMES, biatch!"

2005-04-04 06:21:37 PM
I am from this town too. There is a guy running for mayor in the town right next to Hattiesburg whose name is Gay. His signs keep getting stolen too.
2005-04-05 12:09:49 PM
I lived in Hattiesburg for the last few years, and I am proud to say I stole one of those signs. It's in my closet.
