I'm gonna go sit on this guy's street corner and beg for $50,000. That's chump change for him.

Stuff like this depresses me.

Just vote to give yourself a property tax increase and your son's teacher will have her raise.

Yeah, but this guy can't take it to the hoop. Nor, from what I've heard on the street, does he have mad skilz.

Don't you people understand that a CEO works nearly 2,000 times harder than you do? That's why they need such a salary. Also, they're expected to wear suits often. Suits cost real money, people. Why don't you think before you criticize so quickly.

Exactly. If this was the first pick in the NBA draft no one would say a word. Hell if the first pick in the NBA draft got a deal "only" worth that much he would be laughed at.

Yes, Capitalism is such a good way to promote fairness and equality in society. It's no wonder that Bush-supporting bible thumpers love capitalism so much - they share the same morality.

I can't wait to meet him...
As much as a goat woman as Carly is, she at least has awesome taste in clothes and jewelry. Nothing over stated and some would say a CEO-ILF.

This guy looks like he's wearing something he bought off the rack at Sears.

So to switch from one CEO to another, it cost...$41 million dollars (is that right? I forget how much carly took).

$41 million dollars to switch CEOs. $41 million dollars.

And this company pays my father pennies in comparison for 30+ years (at Digital, which was then bought by Compaq, which was then bought by HP) for being a computer repariman.

This makes me farking sick.

He was forced to be a repairman? Why did he move to something with more responsibility that made more money? Waaaaa....

This is farking nuts! HP is struggling financially and what do they do? Hand out $40+ million to the departing CEO and the incoming CEO combined! A $2.75 million "relocation fee"?!?! WTF!

2005-03-31 12:31:17 PM
Well, he IS a better person. Even if he fails, it's worth it. We NEED the elite in our country. We can't wait for them to make it themselves, so we operate like this. If you can't understand why, well, that's why you'll never be one.
It's not his privledge, it's his right. Who else will lead?

Is HP so bad off that it had to bribe somebody $20 million to take the CEO job?

2005-03-31 12:32:44 PM
I'd think that buying 100 junior executives then making them vote on every decision would be much more cost effective.

Any you think getting a crappy CEO will help the company's financials more? You get what you pay for.

2005-03-31 12:32:56 PM
They could've spent that money on hiring a decent tech suport crew.

How are the two related? One is the leader of a private company that makes money from sales. The other is a public servant that gets their income from taxpayers. If you want to give teachers a raise, we should do what I've said all along, raise taxes.

"One is the leader of a private company that makes money from sales."

If only CEO pay was directly related to sales, crap like this wouldn't happen.

If the teacher can bring in 83 billion in business this year, I think they'll give her a raise. That's what "doing nothing" will get you.

"The guy gets 20 mil for doing nothing and my son's teacher can't get a raise?"

I am so farking sick of hearing this. The average public school teacher salary is $44,000 a year. The average American salary is $36,000 a year. Public school teachers get kick ass benefits, work only 9 months of the year plus Springbreak, Christmas etc and have little or no stress because they cannot get fired. Further, at least in Alabama, teachers can retire at something like 75% of their salary after 20 YEARS (w/ benefits). Most of them retire and then turn around and start teaching at private schools. Average starting wage for a teacher is $29,500 which is more than I made starting out with a college degree. So please spare me the whole "poor teachers" thing. Yeah they have an important job but they get rewarded as well.

Henchman: If only CEO pay was directly related to sales, crap like this wouldn't happen.

CEO pay is based on what the investors think he can do improve sales. You know, that free market thing.

By the way, you can blame that lack of a teacher raise on the NEA.

Yes, t3h capitalism is t3h evil! Lets ignore how it's created the best standards of living in history. The poor in developed societies with fairly open markets do very well when you make comparisons to the historic poor, or the poor in other countries. Would you rather be middle calss in beautiful Soviet Russia, or "poor" in the US? Guess which one had easy access to toilet paper...

Look, while I'm not saying it's perfect, it's hardly immoral to support a system that has made things the easiest on the poor.

2005-03-31 12:42:14 PM
Spread the word; don't buy HP. Then this asshat won't be around long. Think Epson. Not that their execs are any better probably but their products certainly are.

Hey, my dad could drive a company into the ground for WAY less than the $21 million they gave Carly. Just about everyone here could.

Of course. If teachers weren't blackmailing whiners with the summer off people might actually care.
