So.. he stripped his kids, nearly killed one by twisting his head near off & threatened another with a pair of scissors, while parading them outside. So.. I don't see the problem here?

"Kenosha police say a naked man twisted his son's neck so badly the boy passed out.
That happened before they shot and killed the man early today."

I certainly hope so. I think it would be very traumatic to have yer dad be shot and killed, THEN get up and twist your neck...

Sergeant Ron Bartholomew says the man put what looked like a pair of scissors
so WAS it a pair of scissors?
it would sound better if the officer described the object as "the scissors, which we recovered..."

Neighbor John DeCicco, who saw part of the incident, says he heard police yell at the man to stop and drop his weapon, then heard five or six shots ring out.
i'm guessing it was a 9mm, which could be described as a "less-than lethal" weapon. 5 or 6 shots is excessive, especially if you are actually shooting to kill. having been trained by an LAPD handgun instructor, all i can say is there is something wrong with this, but i need more details of the incident.

2005-03-31 07:29:32 AM
probably got some shampoo in his eye
hurts like a biatch
i get real mad when that happens too

2005-03-31 08:19:33 AM

What? A naked man story with no Vaseline-coated car or room? Amateur...

/have to admit, the shampoo was a nice touch, though...

LegalizeThoughtCrime: 5 or 6 shots is excessive, especially if you are actually shooting to kill.

As opposed to what? Shooting to tickle?

If you are shooting someone and you intend to incapacitate them, you keep shooting until they are incapacited. If you are shooting someone and you do not intend to incapacitate them, then I can only wonder why the hell you pulled the weapon in the first place.

2005-03-31 08:44:09 AM
LegalizeThoughtCrime,
Speaking as a former Police Officer, I would have to say that firing your weapon 5 or 6 times is "excessive". If I saw someone twisting a childs neck, or acting like they were going to stab them, guess what? I would shoot every round I had to kill that bastard before he could injure that child. I don't care if he's on drugs, I don't care if he is "retarded" or has a "mental illness". All I would know as a police officer pulling up on the scene is a man is trying to harm children with a weapon, and I'm gonna tap him in the chest with six shots of .357 goodness until he drops like a sack of shiat. (which he is). If that doesn't stop him, I'm gonna reload, and keep shooting. That 's what cops get paid for, and what they are forced to do sometimes by asshats like this one. Would I like it to be different? Of course. But the world is not a pretty place, and sometimes police are forced to kill to stop an innocent from being injured or killed.

And just for your information, an officer is lucky to land 2 out of 6 shots during a shooting. So, six shots to drop this pusbag is not, in my humble opinion, excessive.

/thats all.

I've seen reports that the guy tried to break a five year old kid's neck before the officer shot him twice with a .45 caliber handgun. Then the guy reached for another kid, and the officer shot him seven more times.

I can think of a lot of adjectives -- tragic, traumatic, painful -- but "excessive" doesn't come immediately to mind.

2005-03-31 09:08:01 AM
jeez, how bad was their mom that this genius got custody??

I was gonna make a comment about naked children in the street, but it seems all those comments have already been covered.

2005-03-31 09:13:11 AM
What, again?

2005-03-31 09:14:35 AM
Yea. In this case, "Presumption of Innocence" means you presume the kid is innocent, not the guy trying to use the kid as a Pez dispenser.

I hope the cop gets some decent counciling for this, though. I mean, not only did he have to shoot a guy, he had to shoot the guy in front of his kids, because the guy was trying to hurt his kids. Just a really farked situation all around.

My brother was recently trained to be an air marshall, they taught him to keep shooting until the gun was empty. Why take chances?

Sigh, i live in Kenosha, about 10 blocks from where this happened. I had hoped my poor city would make the news for a better reason. Now you know why we call it Kenowhere.

Here was our local news bulletin the day it happened.

Mar. 29, 2005 3:00 p.m.

(Police Shoot)

Kenosha---Police say the officer who fatally shot a crazed and naked man on a southside street early this morning did so to save the lives of the man's three small children.

The identity of the dead man isn't being revealed pending notification of relatives. But at an afternoon news conference, police said the 31 year-old Kenosha man had just been released from prison.

Passersby called police just after two this morning to report that a belligerent man with three small children was trying to flag down cars on 22nd Ave. All four were naked, according to Sgt. Ron Bartholomew.

When officers arrived, the man, yelling unintelligibly, put a large pair of scissors to the throat of his 14 month-old baby, Bartholomew said. The man eventually threw down the knife, but then fell on the baby, and grabbed his five year-old son, twisting his neck so hard that the boy went limp and rolled to the side.

That's when Officer David Monson fired the first of nine shots that police said were needed to prevent the man from continuing to grab at his children. Police said Monson's partner, recruit Luke Hofmann, had his taser gun drawn. It wasn't used out of fear the one of the gun's electronic probes could've struck a child, Bartholomew said.

The three children are now in protective custody as investigators continue to try to locate the children's mother who reportedly lives in Zion, according to Bartholomew.

The children's night of terror reportedly began at the man's apartment located about seven blocks from the shooting scene. The five year-old boy told police that his father beat his girlfriend there, smoked marijuana, ingested shampoo, pushed some pills into the mouth of his three year-old brother, punched him in the face, tore the bathroom sink from the wall, poured water over him and his siblings and tore off their clothes before forcing them to accompany him south on 22nd Ave.

Police searched the apartment and found the physical evidence to confirm the child's story, Bartholomew said. Police were still looking for the girlfriend.

Kenosha definetely has it's problems. Kinda glad I moved from there a couple years ago. All of that happened right in front of my parents house, literally. Their yard was blocked off as a crime scene until about 6:30 the morning when they finally decided to get the body out of there.

The guy probably just wanted to go finish his night off at Sunnyside, and kill that shampoo dog with a shot of jaeger. I realize that he was trying to hurt the kids, but the rookie had a stun gun - why have to shoot the guy 9 times?

This isn't the first time that Kenosha Police have been under fire (pardon the expression) for their shooting tactics. Remember the unarmed woman, I believe it was, at the Lou Perinnies/Mcdonalds a couple years ago? Yea, THAT was justified. wtf

2005-03-31 11:24:38 AM
This thread is totally missing the anti-drug message from some guy, to the tune of "9 out of 10 of my friends who smoke marijuana also get naked, drink shampoo, and threaten to kill children in front of cops"...

2005-03-31 11:31:32 AM
I thank the heavens EVERY DAY that I got out of Kenosha. I lived there for 4 1/2 years and hated pretty-much every waking moment of it. That kind of crap happens more than you would think in that town. I knew a cop in Kenosha, and some of the stories were amazing.

Darwin was far, far, far too late for this one.

3 year old brother? Who's brother? The dead guy? Is his mom still popping out farked up morons like him?

Girlfriend's not around? Have they checked the hospitals?

Man, and I thought the backwoods towns of NH were farked up.

/Oh wait ... no ... that's wrong

WTF? It's too dangerous to fire a taser gun near children, but firing a gun 9 times near them is "good, clean, fun."

Another example of how stupid the police are.

2005-03-31 12:37:17 PM
what's more accurate; a charged electrode on a wire, or a rifled bullet?

that's why the gun was used ... not stupid.

that's why the gun should not have been used ... stupid.
