I have relatives that are among these people.

I admit, the effects make it look pretty real, but come on.
2005-03-28 09:24:16 AM
He's still one of the best in the league.
2005-03-28 09:24:28 AM
People believed this?
2005-03-28 09:35:43 AM
Some people are also idiots.

On TV - Must be true.
On Internet - Must be true.
True x 2
2005-03-28 09:43:23 AM
I've had to dumbshiat several people on this.

It is, however, well done. Several of their commercials have accomplished the same thing.
2005-03-28 09:46:06 AM
For what he gets paid, he should be able to make 4 jump shots.

Go Spartans! KY Sucks!

In high school once I scored a shot from about half-court. I was cool for a day.

KY lubes.

I overheard some older gentleman at lunch the other day telling his friend he saw this interview clip and it was amazing.
(good thing I wasn't chewing on a ham sandwich at the time)

People watch "reality" television. That's all I need to justify the intelligence of the average television viewer.

The first time I saw this I thought it was real.

Then reality kicked in, and made me realize that an NBA player cannot even hit 2 straigyht 8 footers.
2005-03-28 09:50:09 AM
Anyone remember the football powerade commercial with Michael Vick throwing into the upper deck of the stadium. I still find people who think that was true... mostly in discussions over whether the Lebron commercial is true or not...
2005-03-28 09:50:50 AM
No, he can. I saw him do it in that commercial
2005-03-28 09:52:02 AM
That commercial has been out at least a year, and write an article on it now? Anyone with half a brain could tell it was fake immediately. He looked like he was taking free throws and shooting it 90', come on.
2005-03-28 09:52:53 AM
I really don't pay any attention to the NBA, but that commercial is hilarious. Obviously fake, but quite good.
2005-03-28 09:54:07 AM
I remember when Walter Payton was dying, there were people from all over the place calling the hospitals, volunteering to donate their livers so that Walter could survive.
2005-03-28 09:54:12 AM
I saw Jesus make a hole in one!

/had to be true.
2005-03-28 09:55:49 AM
I can't beleive that people have to be told that this is faked.

/people are stupid, no exceptions.
2005-03-28 09:56:15 AM
the 'natural' sounding commentary from the apparent sportscaster is the worst. reminds me of the commentary from the helicopter guy in those 'amazing police video' chases. i mean, come on, the same exact guy is spontaneously commenting on every chase from every helicopter in the country?

You forgot Poland.

There have been a few of these Powerade commercials, all very well done. The first one I saw was the tennis player who serves the ball so hard, it embeds itself in the court.

As far as advertising goes, it sure beats rainbow-colored sweat droplets and watching a bunch of athletes pour glowing liquid all over their faces.
2005-03-28 09:59:12 AM
A girl I work with fell for this, she was like, "Yeah, I heard it took over 30 takes to get it." It was pretty funny.
2005-03-28 09:59:24 AM
Not as good as the tennis powerade commercial where the guy serves the ball so hard it digs into the clay court. that was the first of these commercials I had ever seen and thought it could be real the first time I saw it.
2005-03-28 10:00:13 AM
It's true because everything you see on TV is true, especially commericals. And those info-mercials? Riveting.
2005-03-28 10:00:20 AM
It's a really cool commercial. Too bad people are so gullible.

"Holy shiat, did you see that commercial with the dog flying an F-18! I wish my dog could do that - I can't even get him to stop peeing on the rug."
2005-03-28 10:00:29 AM
the same people who thought that this commercial was real most likely thought the world was being attacked by aliens in the old War of the Worlds radio broadcast.

/Duke Really Sucks!

LMAO GWASUFC. You may have found a niche.

Wonder what the internet hoax gulibility break-down by party affiliation is.
2005-03-28 10:04:46 AM
Dosn't anybody remember the Bill Russell AT&T commercials of the 80's. He was sitting at a desk, throwing the ball over his shoulder and was supposed to miss. He would make the basket every time they did a take and eventually they had to rewrite the commercial.
2005-03-28 10:06:12 AM
is anyone agruing that it is IMPOSSIBLE?
2005-03-28 10:06:18 AM
Yeah. Some people actually believe Deion Sanders would actually do an indomercial for something called the "Hot Dog Xpress"...

Oh. Nevermind.
2005-03-28 10:07:13 AM
Woot, the drought is over! 1 year and 26 days have passed, but I finally got another submission green-lighted!
2005-03-28 10:07:23 AM
an infomercial even.
2005-03-28 10:07:42 AM
Not only can this guy make these shots, if you drink the drink they are selling, you can too!
2005-03-28 10:09:08 AM
I thought the commerical was real. I just figured they were allowing steriods in the NBA just like MLB.
2005-03-28 10:09:21 AM
He can't? Amateur.

/I kid
2005-03-28 10:12:24 AM
It's not impossible.

Take your typical free-throw. Let's say a standard NBA guy can make that free-throw 75% of the time. Is it impossible for that guy to make 10,000 in a row? No, it's not, it's possible...just very, very, very, very unlikely.

As far as I know, there are people who can make a basket from the other side of the court - but instead of 75% of the time, it's more like 5% or even less probably. I'm bad with math but, if it was a .05 percent chance of hitting the shot, the odds of making 4 in a row would be 0.00000625.

Outside of that - his form on the shots looks like what you'd expect from a freethrow. In all the games I've seen, when people take shots from beyond half court they are ugly shots - they push forward, it looks real bad.

OH - and because it's a commerical and not a news broadcast...

So yeah, not IMPOSSIBLE just didn't happen.
2005-03-28 10:14:02 AM
Who cares?
2005-03-28 10:15:01 AM
pro wrestling is real as well
no kidding
2005-03-28 10:17:01 AM
The fact he was taking jump shots should make it fairly clear. He's barely making any kind of effort and the ball magically travels 90 feet. The way he was shooting I doubt the ball even reached half court.
2005-03-28 10:17:21 AM
Ahhh... all the wonderful things I miss now that I don't have a television.

/tv-free since last june
//lebron who?
2005-03-28 10:17:26 AM
Some submitters can't count to 5, apparently, that's how many he makes in the commercial.
2005-03-28 10:18:52 AM
man, people sure are stupid.

on the other hand, i didn't even recognize LeBron, so i'm guessing that commercial wasn't intended for me.
2005-03-28 10:18:55 AM
I didn't know that the killer whale landing on the kayaker was faked...of course I got it from the internets without any of the advertisement goodness

/probably should have pressed the ANY key
//thanks Homer
2005-03-28 10:20:33 AM
For what they paid for his @s5, he damned well better be able to.
2005-03-28 10:21:38 AM
Well said RobDude.

You're going to either shot put the ball or throw it like a football to get it travel 85 feet in the air. That's a fact.
2005-03-28 10:22:09 AM
I like the Micheal Vick commercial better.

Vick is SICK

But he can't throw a ball 140 yards. More like 80+
2005-03-28 10:23:58 AM
Obviously it's fake..but still it's a cool commercial...sure it's done digitally...but very smooth.
