(Iwon)   P. Diddy to design line of custom rims costing $700 to $3000. "Wheels have become a fashion statement -- a badge of taste and style." In other news, young black males fall further behind. (With pic)   (apnews1.iwon.com) divider line 435

When did off-putting become the new aesthetically pleasing?

2005-03-28 08:13:38 AM
Is he Puff Daddy or P.Diddy or Puff Diddy or Big Panties? And does he have any talent, other than being the friend of some fat dead guy?

I'm sure he has studied CAD and CAM, and knows CNC like the back of his hand. Or maybe not?

2005-03-28 08:17:38 AM
Fall further behind what?

2005-03-28 08:18:23 AM
Bill Cosby's expectations of them?

2005-03-28 08:30:41 AM
too afford flashy things you have to make money somehow...

So they cant fall too far behind or they wont make money to afford flashy things.

I'd like to work for this company because it's been a long time since I've had a good rim job.

2005-03-28 08:37:42 AM
Is it me, or does P.Diddy seem to be a greedy power monger lately?

2005-03-28 08:37:48 AM
as a young white guy in the 1970s, i had cool rims with 70s tires with white lettering all around on my, um, vega. it's a young guy thing. it looks just as silly in either era.

in related news, while i was getting gas this a.m. some moron ricer was revving up and spinning in his tires while leaving, and as he departed i remarked to the other guy at the pumps, "make all the noise you want; it's still a ford escort"

Uhm, the 18-24 yr olds that are gonna want these things aren't going to afford them making $8/hour.

That's about $320 per week before taxes. A guy could probably clear at least $1000 a month, and if he lives at home with no rent, no bills and no grocery expenses, he could blow his cash on stupid stuff like that.

When I was 18 and working in a pizza place I can count on zero fingers how many times I had a few grand in the bank.

You can sleep in your car but you can't drive your house.

2005-03-28 09:10:59 AM
I long for the day that fancy rims go the way of crown air fresheners...

2005-03-28 09:14:41 AM
Actually, I've seen a lot of young white guys who idolize P Diddy and these rappers. It's not so much a "Young Black" thing as it's a "Young, Stupid, and Impressionable" thing. Whatever race they are, you can rest assured they're falling behind _somebody_ who actually has a future.

2005-03-28 09:15:43 AM
It's not how much you make, it's how much you spend.

Yeah, and I worked a lot in high school (20-30 hrs. per week during school, full-time during summers and breaks), and I never had any massive amounts of money stored up, either. I blew it on stupid stuff. Working through college to pay bills taught me at least a shred of fiscal responsibility. Just a shred, though.

I don't know a_e. I was working the Domino's on the "bad" side of town back when I was 19/20, and even after paying all my bills for a month, I usually had atleast $900 dollars left at the end of the month.

Oh yeah, and $700-$3000 for rims is really cheap.

Tell it to the redneck youth that fed this industry right into the mainstream.

Weld is my biggest client... zing me your reso. ;)

The funny part of this whole story is that the first day I was there, I got corrected that they are "wheels" and not "rims." Then, they get their highest profile deal with P-Diddy and he uses "rims" all over the place.

2005-03-28 10:34:25 AM
i'd say it's more "stupid kids of any color" that will fall behind, not just the young black ones. young white men aren't any wiser or less apt to follow the lead of a flashy black rapper.

2005-03-28 11:04:12 AM
Over the weekend I saw a car that had an air freshener hanging from the mirror. It had a picture of a dachsund on it and the words "I love my wiener" written on the bottom.

That is the only automobile accessory any young male should ever need.

"They spinnin', negro, they spinnin'!"

Oh Chris Rock, you're the best.

/It's a funny headline, watch "Never Scared" to get it.

2005-03-28 11:24:59 AM
They greenlit this trolly headline?

Whichever admin thought that this was a good idea...well...have fun cleaning up once it hits the main page.

'Cos nothing looks cooler than a mid '80's oldsmobuick sitting on $3,000 22" rims.

Smooky
I got a toaster...
..i love rap music..tired of defending it.
..what about clear heels? girls you DISGUSTING!

and I LOVE how having expensive wheels automatically equates to "low income kid with no future"? -sarcasm-

whats really stupid about this? whats the difference between nice wheels, owning lots of guns, a boat, raising horses, nice suits, a flower garden..etc?
it harms no one, it may not be for you, but whats the harm in it all?
every one of you does something that someone else would view as "dumb and/or childish"..so throw your stones carefully.
and for those of you who are older and dont care anymore about impressing yourself or someone else.. you did it once before..everyone does. Even those who try their hardest to not do anything popular are impressing themselves with staying out of the norm.

whats wrong with you people?
and way to greenlight for the sake of arguements.. i deplore the racial bs that farkers post/submit and smarmily discuss in ways that overtly say "yeah, this is a bigoted comment..but i'll try to hide it cleverly in my wording". You'd think with some many supposedly "open-minded" people fark has.. and self-proclaimed "smart folk".. we'd avoid shiat like this..

once this hits the main page.. hell breaks loose.

-stands next to GWS and shakes his head

or am i taking this too hard?

2005-03-28 11:50:22 AM
Well, I thought it was funny.

Dr.Knockboots: or am i taking this too hard?

(Looks away from the television, currently playing Dr. Dre's Deep Cover)

Nope. You're spot-on.

2005-03-28 01:23:59 PM
Sorry. These guys.

2005-03-28 02:02:56 PM
Yeah, I don't know how a high-end auto accessory equates to black youth falling farther behind. If anything, the fact that a black entrepreneur is selling it would tell me the opposite.

What people do with their money is their own business. Different people value different things. That isn't race, that's taste.

i read a story a few months back about a single, unemployed mom of 2 kids. she financed a set of rims for her POS car at around $275 per month.

bling(in many cases) = poverty and ignorance.

Unfreakable: that's taste

Or lack thereof........

2005-03-28 02:17:16 PM
I'm pretty sure that this is a reference to a Chris Rock diatribe where he talks about black men spending their money on things like flashy rims, rather than investing it, educating themselves, or otherwise using it to produce more money, thus sealing their place in society. Only when he did it, it was funny. Especially the, "If Bill Gates woke up tomorrow with Oprah's money, he'd throw himself out the window and shoot himself on the way down."

2005-03-28 02:18:19 PM
How much crack do you have to sell to afford $3000 rims?

2005-03-28 02:18:20 PM
Chris Rock: Blacks need more wealthy people. Shaq is rich. The white man that signs his check is wealthy. Wealthy people know how to spend properly. Maybe if we didn't spend all our money on rims we might have some to invest. Here Shaq, go buy yourself a bouncing car! Bling Bling. Go get some spinning rims. Look, they're spinning and spinning.

2005-03-28 02:18:42 PM
Just what you young guys need... one more thing to get pulled over for.

Now, back in MY day, we had some fly spinners!

/probably not street-legal nowadays...

2005-03-28 02:18:45 PM
Man, sheet, I's gots me the spinnaz from wal-mart on my metro and I be all bling blinging! Only costed me $60, put them bad boyz in layaway for 6 weeks and then theys mine!

2005-03-28 02:18:53 PM
I love the way that 61 year old guy speaks:

"In the urban market, they call it 'bling-bling' which means showy, shiny and 'Look at me, I have a lot of bling,'" he said. "The way we've designed spokes, holes, the features, it looks like it is aggressively moving when it's not even moving."

"Also, the fact that the wheels are round is an at-tree-bute to the fact that they go on cars, which are hot commodities in the urban market. It's as if to say 'Look at me, I have a car, and it has wheels sometimes.'

/those wheels = farking ugly
//all ghetto fashion = farking ugly

2005-03-28 02:19:19 PM
Time to put the hoes on overtime.

/I needs to go smack them biatchs up.

2005-03-28 02:19:49 PM
What makes young blacks fall further behind, you dolts, is the fact that they are often too busy trying to make the "endz" to buy these rims instead of perhaps, getting an education, paying child support, paying off bills, etc. However, it's not just young blacks; mostly ANYONE that adheres to "Hip-Hop" culture has a tendancy to live beyond their means for the sake of bling.

Sad but true.
